  • Today we are doing fog lights and intermittent windshield wipers on the Corolla. If you are here for the fog lights, it is literally plug and play action with these cars, and this information is good for both 2001 and 2002 CE and LE models. If you are here for the intermittent wipers, same thing, plug and play and all you need is a new stock and basic hand tools. You can have intermittent windshield wipers in about 5 minutes.

    Fog lights (for 2001 or 2002 Toyota Corolla) Check your owners manual for bulb wattage when the lights come in as sometimes online companies use bulbs that are too powerful. If this is the case you can get the correct bulbs from your local Toyota dealership parts dept.

    I posted this same comment on another video - but my comment goes with this particular video as well. Excellent video and thank you very much. We own a cream puff 2001 Toyota Corolla with 106,000 miles - it's a great little grocery getter for my wife. I added aftermarket fog lights, the Denso relay and picked up a new headlight switch w/ fog light from a local salvage yard all for less than $100.00. The install went smoothly thanks to Toyota for pre-wiring the fog lights 20 years ago. I didn't need take the front bumper off - I just jacked the front up high and worked from underneath (with jack stands installed of course). Probably the most difficult part was standing on my head to install the Denso relay. This was a great hands on video and much appreciated.

      I know this is a little late, but I’m planning on doing this soon on my 2001 Corolla as well. How did you get access to the fog light stalk? Did you have to pry the steering wheel column cover off with a flathead screwdriver or does it have screws to remove it or something?

      Dwight J TBH I’ve heard of people swapping out the face of 98-2000 models but I personally have never seen it in action. I would imagine you would have to change the bumper, hood, and your two front fenders to really make it work properly as well as modify the wiring as the 98-2000 models only have two headlights, and the 01 and 02 models have 4 for the high beams, also I’d assume you want the fog lights as well since you’re doing all that work. You can look into it but just know you will have some work cut out for you. If I had a 1999 I would just get an aftermarket fog light kit and just go that route.

    I'm guessing you brought it to the dealership for a recall. That is when your wire was cut. That or another mechanic took it at some point. It is common. My whole harness setup was missing when I decided to put fog lights in. Also the dust guards disappeared from front wheel wells. I used cardboard to get the shape and clip locations traced out and used that as a pattern onto a pilot truck bed liner I found in a ditch to replace those.

I'm pretty sure I have some in my garage, but I wanted to ask you if you have any idea what size those are?

    • @DanielsCarTalkChannel
      @DanielsCarTalkChannel  4 года назад

      TBH they go on with a 10mm bolt but there’s like a little plate on the bottom that really holds them to the bumper. It is kind of an interesting design. I personally just went to the junk yard, found a Corolla S model and took the bolts off of that. If that doesn’t work you could always ask the dealer about them too. I can’t Imagine two little bolts would be that expensive.

    I see you took my advice and did it yourself! Good job! And most techs like myself know how the prewiring but it’s not for every function just some.
    My guess is at one point maybe when your dad got hit, it messed up the fender liner and tire rubbed off the connector/wiring they do not get clipped at the factory.

    • @DanielsCarTalkChannel
      @DanielsCarTalkChannel  5 лет назад

      Louie Morales Thanks, yah it really wasn’t that hard. Now I’m thinking of upgrading the bulbs because my hyper white bulbs in the headlights kind of overpower the fog lights, but at this moment it’s not on the top of my priority list. As for the accident it is possible, at least it was repairable at this point.
      It is pretty awesome that car companies do that though. I did some research on this and Ford, Subaru, Nissan, and Chevy all prewire their lower end models. It’s not always plug and play but they are prewired.

But any 2002-2006 Camry that has fog lights, early 2000’s Avalon, 4Runner, they should all still work. My intermittent windshield wiper stock came off a Camry.

      Aliens Prtcrico if all you did was change the fog lights that is interesting. You can also get some electrical cleaner from Autozone for your electrical sockets if your car happens to be a CE or LE and the wires were tucked away all these years. As far as the location I would check with the Toyota dealership parts department. They should be able to tell you where it is for sure. As for the wires if there’s a harness on the drivers side there should be one on the passenger side. I would see where it’s tucked away on the drivers side and see if I could track it down like that. Hopefully yours didn’t get cut somehow like mine did. As for the fog light switch I just got the stock from pick n pull. It was $17 if I recall right and if that stock doesn’t work for some reason pick n pull gives you 30 days to exchange it. If you have them where you live that might be the best and cheapest way.

      Check the fuse behind the storage trey under the drivers vent. It could also be a bad relay if it isn’t clicking when you turn on your fog lights, also check your wiring harnesses themself. You might need some electrical cleaner and some dye electric grease. You can get these items at Autozone

    I'd Say someone definitely helped themselves to your passenger side fog light socket. Squirrel scissors ain't that sharp and if it was pulled on with the fog light blank in a collision there's no way it'd be that clean. If they were removing it at the factory ,both sides would be clipped?? Why add the whole harness and then snip the last 5 inches off? Also factory wouldn't just leave the wire ends exposed like that. People are the worst. I hate people. Where is the justice?!?! Here's hoping the fog light they repaired with your piece caught fire and shorted the door locks and they died in a slow vehicle fire and were conscious and felt everything. Maybe loved ones were present to witness it. Depends on how dark you wanna get. Pun intended.
