    • @tonyseller2574

      Definitely not arrogance. He is standing up for himself. The snooker board wouldn't make the money they do in the game if it wasn't for players like him. They need him, he is providing this, and he doesn't receive any reward for it? You are joking. He should have left the black. I would have applauded him more for that.

Your opinion is one that (I’m guessing) finds a 147 an astonishing achievement, but that is subjective to the person. Your view of him being condescending is also subjective as well, just because you think that he’s trying to say it’s not anything special just to make people feel bad doesn’t make it factually true.

    Put this in perspective. I never seen the like before. The level of arrogance to call a 147 after two pots, the level of skill to execute difficult positional plays to make the 147. The middle finger salute to the tournament organisers for almost refusing the 147 until jan ask him to complete it. And the genius to be casual about everything like its a practice session. I dunno what i am gonna do when u put your cue away Ronnie but u the biscuit. He has to be the most gifted sportman ever. I mean no one in their discipline makes their sport look this easy when they in full flow.

    147 is not a joke in snooker in fact I have seen many people playing snooker for long time with full dedication and not able to make 30 points break. This man is a living legend for those who understand snooker and it's criticality. I have never seen any player at any level asking for prize money for 147 when he just potted the first red. Very true. And with all the reds being positioned well in the middle of the table, he knew he was on for a good go at the maximum so yes, he was calling it. Ronnie is a show person and in elite level competition so not disrespectful to ask. Not sure he was really disrespecting the fans either, he was making a point about the lack of prize money. Other tournaments had this incentive.

      Ronnie wouldn't find it embarrassing not making a 147. He just knows the lay of the balls and can see a 147 is possible so "what would I win?" What was embarrassing is the fact there was no prize for a 147.

    Ronnie O'Sullivan has been a professional player for 27 years and has made 14 maximums during that time, at a rate of one every two years. This goes to show how extremely difficult it is to do so. There absolutely should be a reward for making a 147 and it should be a substantial one.

When asked, his smile betrayed his true notion, which is of course he enjoys it, but he then put on the poker face and declared nah, not really, to take a pot shot at the fans, creaitng that love hate provokation thing.. You can be offended by it, or take it in your stride. Your call, but either way, of course he enjoy[s/ed] it. It was also probably an additional side kick to the event holders, for not having that 147 extra prize, which they , I believe , did add nowadays ^^

    • @grantmalone
      @grantmalone 6 лет назад +28

      Mojito Well, I mean he's making the point that why should he be such a service to the game, bringing in new fans as well as old by giving them incredible 147s to watch on top of his amazing play, when they are cutting the prize money for him. You can bet your ass that the advertising revenues generated by him sinking maximums are way way beyond £4K. 147s are nothing new for him at this point. All they do is promote the sport, so why bother if the sport isn't going to respect you back and share a little of the money generated from it. What he _really_ enjoyed here is the fact that he wasn't going to bother pot the last black, and he made sure to make that clear. When he says he doesn't care about the fans he's saying why should I care about entertaining them if you aren't going to pay me for it. Not many entertainers out there who work for nothing, and once he's won the frame everything beyond that is just entertainment. He's got nothing to prove to himself.

    I agree with Ronnie. Other sports regularly do just enough to win. If there's no special prize for the superb feat of getting 147 then the tournament organisers deserve a little less entertainment. True fans would understand. It's not greed, it's a principle, and would help less well known players to really strive for the very best possible and to be suitably rewarded for entertaining millions of people with it.

    • @RichardRennes
      @RichardRennes 2 года назад +1

      That is EXACTLY right. He was trying to make the point that the organizers/sponsors are making the game less appealing to top players, and not having a prize for 147 is dissuading all players from even attempting to create great moments/matches. O`Sullivan could`ve had a much easier frame half way through if he potted the blue and potted the reds in the bottom pockets instead of trying to pot some of them in the side pockets.

    • @darrenfleming7901
      @darrenfleming7901 2 года назад +1

      Ronnie has always been invested in making sure the game flourishes as a competitive sport and, compared to most professional players, he's much more honest when it comes to the financial side of the game. He's absolutely right about the maximum break prize, why should the organizers and the broadcaster get all the attention and publicity from a 147 and the player gets nothing for the feat. It's more fair to give a prize and it motivates players to go for it. Ronnie has always been critical of the stinginess in remuneration, because he sees how few players can actually make a living off the game, and he's actually invested in the future of the game instead of just his own earnings like many other players.

He did pot he black as a favor to referee Jan Verhaas (As he stated in a later interview) But contrast the prize money that top ranked Snooker players earn with any other sport & hes professionals are woefully underpaid. More power to O'Sullivan for his stand and stating in the interview immediately afterwards exactly how he felt about the situation.

There are no real top star quality players now to make it hard work for Ronnie like Parrot, Hendry, Davis, Taylor, White or Higgins. I still think Hendry in his prime would beat O'Sullivan more times than not because of his shear will to win and I just think he was far more mentally stronger. Some Historical perspective: The Maximum Ronnie made before this one was in the Snooker World Championship 2008 against Mark Williams, where he got £ 157000 and it was his 9th 147. All ranged from £ 20,000 plus £ 5,000 for the highest break, to a car (vauxhall vectra) plus £ 5,000 and in the world Championship it reached 167,000 pounds. For This one in 2010 there was NOTHING for the Maximum, but £ 3000 for the highest break. Would you be happy? Befrore Hendry and O'Sullivan player who made a Maximum where buzzing so much they didn't win the tournament they made it in, but that was OK, because a Maximum was close to winning tournament in of itself for the prize and the contentment of acheiving perfection in one perfect frame, that was appreciated and acknowledged with giving that prize money. Ronnie's rebellion and the way of expessing it is only natural as he's one of the few who can do it. Would you do extra work for free? and for those who say he's paid for playing, well he could've stopped at 80 or 104, he'd be winning or adding a century on his record, why bother for more? 147 should get back their prestige because they are special. Especially that today it has the added ranking points per £. Looking at the MINIMUM historically throughout the 90s 2000s it was £ 20,000 plus £ 5000 for the highest break It should not be bellow that.

    This is brilliant. Before potting the last black, he acknowledged his opponent with a handshake to thank him for his patience.

      Rajesh Gowda look carefully. He approached the ref for the handshake, not Ronnie. His handshake with Ronnie is already done

    I'm so thankful for the ref getting him to pot that final black - "you gonna knock it in for the fans? Come on"

    The funny thing is the whole reason the prize money for a maxi is so low is RONNIE HIMSELF lol, he's cheapened it by knocking them out so often

    The fact is that getting a 147 brings a lot of attention to the tournament. It gets extra media coverage and the sponsors of the tournament benefit greatly. But if a player goes ahead and gets it even without a prize being offered, then what incentive do the organizers have to EVER offer a prize? They get all the benefits with none of the costs. So Ronnie was trying to take a stand for the benefit of all the players. To forgo personal glory for the profession. But in the end his live for the fans won through. But on another occasion he deliberately went for a last pink instead of the black just to lodge this same complaint.

    No matter how pissed off Ronnie is that Jan convinced him to pot the black, Jan has saved him from becoming a true villain. The message was sent anyway, but to go through with it would have pushed the bounds too much, beyond petulence into disrespect. WHAT A MOMENT IN HISTORY!
