    Glad to see that you went with the rattle can Rust-oleum Camoflage paint, looking great!
    Btw one other tip that I use before spraying the track, I'll rub the top of the rails lightly
    with chap-stick. It really makes the rail tops easy to clean, just wipe and done.

    Oh Man, you are so organized ... I love watching this grow each video and am so appreciative of your explaining how to do it. I can't wait to see what its heading towards , but don'y hurry because I found that his can be the most fun ... and I know you must be like myself , always thinking about whats next ...I used Great Stuff ( canned liq styrofoam insulation for some mountain building. It can be sculptured before drying ..10$ a can .. cheap ..got to master the technique.

      @TopRailroad  2 года назад

      I appreciate the kind words! I agree the process is where the fun is at. That’s a great tip though I may use that $10 styrofoam method if I make more larger hills/mountains

    I'm really enjoying your layout build here. I am in process of building a new layout and like you I have directly glued my track to foam with no cork. I am using Tortoise machines for switching plus I have a bridge over a river scene and I was just very worried about trying to add all of that and get everything properly aligned. I noticed Ken Patterson does the same thing so I feel good about that. I'm going to copy your method for painting the track. I have an airbrush and have never really used it much but it won't be possible for me to take my layout outside so I'm going to give it a whirl. I hope it comes out good. Enjoying your build series. Nice work sir.

      Thank you! Sounds like you got things figured out on your layout. I’ll have to look up Ken to check out what he does. Having a air brush is a huge advantage, you can get way better detail with different shades of paint for variation. Happy railroading friend!

    Awesome job on the track detail! Always love that slow locomotive action with the sounds. We’re just about to finish the bench work for our layout so these videos continue to be helpful and informative. Gonna start the track planning phase soon.

    Nice, you should get a Santa Fe locomotive sometime, seems like it would go pretty good with the layout. It would be cool to see as a local freight/switcher locomotive, also since your BNSF dash 9 is an athearn, the installation of DCC & a sound decoder is quite easy. Look forward to future episodes.

      Thanks! I agree a Sante Fe engine would look great on the layout. I’ll have to browse Lombard Hobbies to see what they got in stock!

    Great video TR, and I've really enjoyed these episodes of your new layout! That color you chose to paint the track looks great! Now will you ballast it next or in a future episode? The other 2 buildings you added look perfect w your layout. Seems you'll have a nice switching yard. Thanks again for sharing your videos and look fwd to the next one. Oh, what was the color of that paint again!

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 года назад

      Thank you! Ballasting will probably be next up and as for the color of the paint I’m not sure cause it doesn’t say on the can anywhere. But it’s a dark brown, shouldn’t be hard to find cause it’s the camouflage branded rustoleom

  • @UFO4X

    How do you get away with painting the switches? Paint will still get on the other rail opposite the one it is touching. I was told to cover them completely. Just curious?

  • @Rayzor66
    @Rayzor66 2 года назад

    Looks great, i have missed a few episodes though. I'm gonna have to go back a few. How come you didn't ballast the track with stone looking stuff? And the sounds are pretty realistic.. our train shop in town had the same controls you have. Does the sound come from the actual engine or the controls? Just curious about a few things. Keep up the great work

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! And actually the ballasting is the next step. That’s cool, it’s a great control system. And the sounds come from a speaker inside the engine itself

    I’m new to the hobby, and was wondering what DCC does. Is it sound on the layout, or on the engine, or what?

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 года назад

      DCC is sound in the engine, sometimes it doesn’t come with it and you need to install it yourself. So be sure to read the discription of what your buying to see if it has sounds included which most DCC trains do. DCC also allows trains to run smoother and more realistically and with multiple trains at once but you do pay more compared to just regular DC.
