GOING NORTH | Riding the Idaho BDR - Episode 2

  • Tough way to begin the BDR, but we gotta be able to adapt..
    In this episode of the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route, we manage to excavate the XR650 from the mud and reassess if making it to Canada is still a possibility. We know the clutch is ruined in the XR, but maybe theres a way to scrape by for just a few hundred more miles.. Thankfully, there was. After putting in 200 more miles, we finally arrive in central Idaho.
    I wish I had better footage to end the video with, but I don't, so it ends a bit abruptly.
    Enjoy the video and keep a lookout for the next 5 episodes!

    Maybe get to watch more as you’re doing a great job! Just wanted to say hi from another father/son riding pair. We did (try) the IBDR in July 2022. Unfortunately bad spring snowstorms kept some sections closed even in early July. Lots of reroutes. We did get 6 days and 1300 miles in. I love the riding time with my son and I’m sure your dad does with you too! From another father, thank you 🙏

      The shared experiences are priceless!! Regardless of arriving at the destination or not, you guys got to spend 6 days exploring this incredible state together. Those memories will always be there. I was really happy I got to share that experience with my own dad.

    These videos are great. I thought you said you were going to ‘play it safe’ and go to Twin Falls to get a new clutch for the XR650. It doesn’t seem like Twin Falls is near there. But then you’re covering all this ground on a dirt road and camping. It would be helpful if you have captions every minute or 2 saying where you are maybe and show a map with the location. I can only guess that you are not going to get a new clutch pack, but are going north on the BDR from Jarbidge to do the BDR with the bad clutch. Confusing. Also it would be very helpful to know if the dirt road going north from Jarbidge on the BDR is just as bad when wet as whatever road you were on where you got stuck so people will know whether or not they need to avoid it if it has rained in the last several days.

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  Месяц назад

      From jarbidge, we went to twin falls on an alternative, more asphalt oriented route. This allowed us to see if the damaged clutch would hold up. By the time we got into Twin falls, we decided the damaged clutch could handle riding further north. So, we left twin falls, and got back on the dirt at Glens Ferry going north to Trinity Mountain.
      Also, most of the dirt surrounding Jarbidge seems to be an issue when wet.

    Trinity mountain area is beautiful. The view from the lookout is incredible. was up there a couple of years ago. What an adventure. I hope to do the entire IDBDR route sometime. Have done only sections while riding local trails. It's hard to find someone who wants to go and has the time.

      Next episode is Trinity summit! I highly recommend doing the full route if you can!! It is an incredible experience to have from start to finish. I hope to continue to run bigger and bigger filming projects like this in the future and I’m looking for partners, so I understand that. I’ve always felt if the ride can be done in the day, it can be done alone. Once you’re out there past sunset, have another person with you!

    Nice Job, enjoyed the cinematography. Pros make it look easy on their big bikes, but it’s interesting to see how fast things can go wrong with us mere mortals. IBDR is on my bucket list anyway tho🤷‍♂️ Looking forward to the next one !

    Incredible scenery.. im shocked we dont see ppl catching dinner, as in trout.. in Idaho.. THat is what i would be doing.. As i carry a fishing backpack on my adv bike... That is what you can expect on the CenCaBORL 1100 mile off road loop.. Catch and cook... Right here in central California. please take a look.. we are gaining momentum.. 9 legs or take shorter routes of 400, 600 and 900 mile looped sub routes of the 1100 mile route. The shorter routes use hwy 120 thru Yosemite as the connector, where as the 1100 mile route, does not enter any National Park.

    Enjoying this one man! We were in the Sawtooths from the 29th-Aug 5th of 23. Bet we were close to each other. My buddy has a mining claim up near Ross Forks and Bear Creek. If you get up that way don't miss that. Some of the best riding we've ever done. We turned and headed north to Stanley. Then on to Challis and Salmon. We have red mud here out east, but that red lava mud is different man. We were on the tour of Idaho t3 route between Challis and Salmon and got in a storm like you guys and completely stopped our tires too. Luckily we were on tw200s and the big tires helped but it was still rough man. I have it all documented on here on the Idaho playlist if you wanna check it out. No joke though, that area up Near smoky bar store, paradise creek, low water gulch, and ross forks is a must on a dirt bike. Enjoying this series! Familiar sites make me wish I was there on the bike again!

      @madjack_757 yea man, the t3 isn't much harder than the bdr. It's more geared for dual sports with gear. I have the gpx file for the latest one I can share with ya. The t1 is something else! We hit a bit of it here and there. Since you did the single track way up above that river you wouldn't have any trouble! 23 was the last year for it as a sanctioned event unfortunately, but it's all public trail.

      @@madjack_757 Well I've only done a couple of sections, but section 6 is Elko to Jarbridge, and the BDR has you take pavement for a decent segment of it. instead I highly recommend taking Charleston-Deeth County Road to/from Elko. It's a beautiful dirt road through epic scenery. Sounds like you're editing all your footage though which is great!! I am behind so much on editing lol.
