REACHING TRINITY SUMMIT | Riding the Idaho BDR - Episode 3

  • Struggling to reach the cliff-edge, rocky peak of Trinity Mountain, Idaho..
    On this episode of the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route, we have finally arrived at the base of Trinity Mountain. I can't even begin to describe how much this mountain towers over you as you try to ride to the summit. The trek up to the peak at nearly 10,000 feet in elevation isn't for the faint of heart. It would be one thing to climb up with just a dirtbike without any other gear. Riding up while laden down with 60-80 pounds of equipment is a whole different story..
    Enjoy the video and episodes that will soon follow!

    Your film making style is really smooth and easy to watch, and that's kind of a rare thing in motorcycle journals. Thanks for keeping the rough parts in, as that shows the true nature of what you and your dad experienced, and gives your audience a really clear picture of what can happen on even the easiest parts of the route. Very well done!

      Thanks so much for the comment! I spend a lot of time in the editing process and these comments make the work worth it. As I've always said, its not an adventure until things go wrong and I think showing it all gives other riders an idea of what can happen on these routes.

    Those 2 miles up to the lookout and then back are quite the challenge with the gear on the bikes. But, absolutely worth the ride up. Congrats on finding your lost camera and drone. That is very good luck. Can't wait for more footage. Thanks for posting.

    Great series. I really start to wonder if something like a CRF300L rally or even the new XT150L would be great bikes for a trip like this.
    Lighter and easier to ride bikes lessen the strain of every movement while riding, and it all adds up.
    The XT150L is ridden in rough mountains all over south america and south east asia.
    What do you think?

    Nicely edited! Having done multi-day ADV rides in and around Idaho for years now, these particular travails and triumphs are all-too familiar. 😃 If your ride goes like many of mine then I’m excited to see how you handle the part where you realize a forced change of plan means you won’t have enough gas.

    Such a great series 👏 doing the BDR with your dad is super cool, so wish my dad was younger as he absolutely loves hearing and seeing my moto trips and lives vicariously through that. We just wrapped up our IDBDR trip and like you said it's not always the hero moments that stand out but the tough hiccups along the way that can truly pull a group together to overcome almost all obstacles. We rode the Lookout on a gorgeous day and was truly a highlight, tough on a fully loaded KTM 990 and super winded up top but unreal views from up there. Your drone shots were awesome. Ironically I crashed later that day and broke my fibula and some ribs but with some help from my group managed to nurse those injuries along the trail with a few extra rest days to keep the swelling under control but we all managed to make it to the Border. It's so cool to see you capture the struggle and success of a trip like this in a way that is close to the experience itself, well done!

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  2 месяца назад

      Thanks so much!! The challenges are 100% what makes the trip worth while. That lookout was probably one of my favorite moments on the whole journey I think. I'm so glad you managed to complete your trek to Canada despite the injuries! Those injuries are no joke too.. What caused your crash?

    • @Tinroofdeals
      @Tinroofdeals 2 месяца назад

      @@madjack_757 It was just a case of getting a little out of balance going over a water bar that lead right into another water bar and got slightly bucked on first and front wheel bobbled while I was struggling to regain balance and got thrown over the high side and onto my right hand side. I had put my right foot out as I was coming down and that spiral fractured my fibula and then I got my ribs and my shoulder. I was wearing the Alpinestars Rally Air system which deployed and more than likely kept me from have more severe thoracic injuries and no neck or head trauma even tho my head did hit the ground as well. It was just one of those innocuous moments that you get away with 10 times but just got unlucky. We were about 35 miles south of Lowman when it happened and ended up riding to Yellow Pine that day. Boots were AStars Tech 7's but don't think any other boot would have had a much different result.

      Some of my favorite episodes are yet to come! I highly recommend the route, but take notes from these videos. I was caught off guard by the weather, unexpected breakdowns, fire season, and so much more. Best advice of mine is to be flexible to make route adjustments, give yourself plenty of time to ride the route, and be self sufficient for at least 2 or more days without going into town. That includes food/water, gas, shelter, clothes, bike maintenance, bear spray/firearms and anything else you may need. The route is an incredible experience.

    Man I got really lucky on my IDBDR trip last year in early July. It rained maybe 20 minutes out of the entire 14 days I rode. Downside of going that early was trinity lakes was closed 😞. And it was HOT the whole time. Like 90s consistently and I was decked out totally with all the gear!
    I have a YT channel too and really wanted to make a series like you did but decided that since it was my first BDR ever, and first motorcycle trip, that this one was gonna be just for me. That and it’s a royal PIA to document traveling, let alone on a bike! So hats off to you for bringing all of us a well documented trip.

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  6 месяцев назад +1

      That’s such a shame Trinity was closed… such a different weather pattern than we had too, but that’s Idaho lol. I gotta say, filming the whole thing was quite the challenge. Editing was definitely one of the harder components because there was so much footage that just didn’t make the cut. Maybe I’ll do a video documenting the behind the scenes of the journey if I am ever between projects.
