    So fun to see pritchett canyon again.... I've done it a couple of times, but it's been years since I've ridden it despite coming to Moab every year since 2012. At 28:50, when you dumped your bike, all I could think was, "Yep..... that's Moab!". 🤣 That spot was where I re-tore my ACL about 8 years ago. Awesome footage. We'll probably do that run next year..... your video inspired me. 👍👍

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  6 месяцев назад +1

      Stoked you liked the video dude!!
      Man that ACL tear must’ve been a rough one 😬😮‍💨 I felt lucky since I was able to recover from that. It’s mind blowing how it doesn’t look like a bad injury, but falling on those rocks are no joke! That actually was the exact same spot where the group ahead of me had their rider break his arm!! Maybe that one rock wall is cursed??
      I’m glad I inspired you to take on Pritchett again! Stay safe and keep the rubber side down 🤟🏼

    Unfreaking believable... You have ballz. I have to get out west. My son and I both own 24 501's on the East coast. His is stock, mine's totally Taco'ed out. Yesterday he took mine for a quick spin (to feel the difference) with his son on a SX65 as I looked on. Unfortunately he's in bed now mending a broken clavicle and ribs. My advice to him was "be prepared to fall every single time you go out but never let it stop you, it's part of the sport". I'm 62 and I think I have Evel Knievel beat on broken bones, lol. Keep up the good work. I think you need to splice some of your videos together, narrate the story make a movie like "On any Sunday". You can call it "On any terrain" 👍

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  6 месяцев назад +1

      Glad you liked the video!! The riding out west is absolutely top notch!
      The 501 series has gotta be the greatest model that husky came up with. I absolutely love these bikes and I'm guessing you're the same with your 501 lol. What mods are you running?
      Hopefully your son heals up quick!! Injuries are a significant part of the sport and I agree that you just have to learn to accept the risks.. Thats a heck of a record to break by the way lol
      Its funny, you aren't the first to tell me to make an "on any sunday" type of video! I actually have an "on any sunday" sticker on one of my camera cases!

    • @zanechristiansen
      @zanechristiansen 6 месяцев назад +1

      that's a funny story, true tho, about expecting to fall every time lol.. I'm young and rode as a kid, ive finally got back into the sport on a yz426, got it for cheap, runs good. but first real day out on it I fell over like a moron just trying to start the thing, heard a pop in my ankle, managed to start the bike still and rode around all day, had a blast. I sit down for a water break and when I go to stand back up is when it hits me and I realize, yep, something is probably wrong with my ankle lol. Just sprained it and I've since been back out, can't let a new intimidating bike scare you, I love the power on this thing lol. and I've purchased a nice pair of riding boots which I should've had from the beginning, ready to have a lot of fun on this thing

    Great job! I’ve just recently found your channel and love the content, very similar to my style of riding.
    I’m headed there in October and am definitely gonna try that trail on my 500. Looks super fun! I ride solo a lot as well and it’s a different game when doing it on that type of terrain. I’ve been running Moose bibs and absolutely love them out here in the desert, they eat through rocks and sand with piece of mind. I hate flats and carrying tubes and irons/spoons on my little bikes. Again great job out there!

      Thanks dude!! Stoked you like the channel!
      October is gonna be a KILLER time to ride in that area on your 5-hundo. I agree, solo riding is its own different style and you just gotta be so self reliant for everything. I have a set of moose tubeless inserts, but I just havnt bit the bullet and installed them cuz I still ride alot on street and worry about overheating the inserts.
      Have you had any issues with it?

    • @ridemotoeveryday
      @ridemotoeveryday 6 месяцев назад

      @@madjack_757 Yea man keep the content coming!
      I had issues with the non Michelin bibs, I try to only ride trails but occasionally ride slab, they are a bit shaky over 45 on the slab, I keep it a 35 and don’t go more that 5 to 10 miles at a time, yea the heat is bad. I did put a good amount of miles on the highway in Colorado @ 40 miles in 2 days and had no issues. They are a real pain to try and install and get the tires bead to seat so I just have my local shop do the install. Busted a lot of knuckles trying lol. But I will never try tubes again unless I do a long bdr run. I run them with the Golden tyres and feel like I’m cheating, they hook on rocks and deep sand. The rear bib will last 2 tires, the front tire last so long I just replace the bibs with them to avoid any issues.

    Just got back from Moab myself, and I have yet to do that canyon after many years of going there. I know it's brutal. A good adventure ride, if you like scenery is the White Rim Trail. It's easy but it's a 110 mile loop through the Canyon Lands NP. A good technical single track is the Sovereign Trail system north of town. I like hitting up the usual Sand Flats area with Hells Revenge, Slick Rock Trail, Fins and Things and Porcupine Rim. Also Poison Spider and Golden Spike have some great technical stuff. Love Moab!

We just did Steel bender for the first time, it’s a similar trail, maybe and 8.0 or 8.5. Really good video footage. Looks like you need about a 50 tooth rear Sprocket to have a lower 1st gear. 6 spd still runs down the hwy well. I have one on my KTM 525. Right when you said that you need to commit more, I was saying the same thing. That terrain is no joke. Why did you tackle this alone?

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah the challenge is I have geared my bike like a dual sport so it is in between dirt settings and street settings. I think i am currently running a 16/48 but I'd have to check again the next time i'm in my shop.
      Yeah its really tough with some of those lines and it was a huge learning curve to understand the terrain. I definitely loosened up by the time I finished riding in Moab tho.
      The reason I rode solo and why I am often riding solo on my channel is that the filming process for some videos is super exhausting. It would be awesome if another video creator was down to collaborate and be riding partners, but it's a lot of work. I probably stopped 2-3 dozen times on the trail to put up the drone or change camera batteries/settings or check how the footage quality was coming out. Someday I'll have a crew to go out and work with but for now its just me 🤟🏻

    Hey bud, I hit up moab for the first time on an old, flame-out-ey, 2005 ktm 450 (cousin's loaner). I didn't do slick rock, but a lot of other trails, it can get tricky out there. But the views are sick as hell every direction you look. FYI, if you've not remapped the fuel on your 501, I just did it this past week and went riding yesterday on some mad hills in CA where they do the big hill climb competitions, and holy crap it blew my head off. Bike was so capable, it makes inclines and getting over obstacles so much easier, even at the very last second. If you've not, try it before going back to such terrain!

      @@madjack_757 I went with the Taco Moto guys GET SX1 ECU. I looked at them for a couple years. Then I bought a second ktm 500 (2014 with the european "euro" remapping of the ECU without US restrictions). That bike's engine rode sooo much better than my 22 ktm 500, that I knew I had to get an ECU for the 22 since you can't euromap them. The ECU is even much better it turns out than the euromap. The bike is a freaking monster in the dirt, soooo much better because basically at any throttle angle, there is power. On hill climbs the other day, I was like what happens if I get no momentum and just tractor up. I can do this, then accelerate and shift up mid climb with no momentum, it's ridiculous. But also a big safety thing on hills and with obstacles, since like you it seems, I'm a solo rider so I need the power to be there on hills and obstacles when i need it. Stock wouldn't quite do this for me, even though stock 500 still blew away my older, smaller bikes in this way.

    You keep stopping or stalling in the WORST spots. Same with some of your other videos. Learn to "feather the clutch" and "keep momentum", ... till you're passed all obstacles and on level ground. You'll have a LOT more fun!! ;-)

    I am to old to try that trail. (77) I ride a TW200. Even my TW is too high geared for my liking. I went bigger in the back, but it turned my 45 MPH cruising speed to 35 MPH, so I went back to stock. Your 500 is to high geared in first gear for me. I had a 175 Yamaha that had the best 1st gear of any bike that I ever owned. That was a long time ago. LOL My old Yamaha 360s had a boatload of bottom end torque. I would have loved to have ridden those types of trails when I was younger. For those rocky trails in Moab, I will stick to my quad. I do enjoy riding my 200, but, I will take the easy trails for now.
    Something that I noticed in your video, momentum is king. Once you stop, that is lost. Momentum will let you coast through sections that would be a lot of trouble if you stopped in the middle. Still, you are a much better rider than I am. I liked your video. I would not worry about the whole internet finding out about that trail. There are rescue videos all over the net showing all of these nasty trails. Trailmator goes all over Moab, and he names the trail every time.

    • @madjack_757

      I wonder if a tw200 would have been easier for me to ride out there? I bet the lighter weight would have helped. Its funny, I actually used to have a 1974 Yamaha MX125!
      Momentum is absolutely king on those trails without a doubt. You just have to commit to your lines entirely out there.
      I wondered if it would be be bad for me to name trails in Moab since most are well discovered, but I also be careful to not become "the guy" who caused trails to get overrun. I've seen some of Trailmator's videos too! Those rescues are gnarly..

      @@madjack_757 I use to be a dirt bike riding fool, but when I rode my XT600 for 8 hours, I would be stove-up for 3 days. This was also 30 years ago. At that time, 1990s, I bought a quad for my Wife to ride. I would also ride it from time to time, and I was impressed by where it would go. I eventually bought another one for me. A couple years later, I discovered that I could ride my quad for 8 hours, and the next day ride it for 8 hours again. So I gradually quit riding my 600, and started riding my quads more.
      After I retired I decided to start riding dirt bikes again. I found a 1994 XT600 in Cali, and went down to pick it up. I was a riding it 2.5 years ago up by Dubois, and was on a 2 track road. I had to go around a tree across the road, and I got off-balance and just tipped over. It took my 25 minutes to figure out a way to lift up that hi-geared Top-heavy monster. I went back to the truck and took it out to my favorite bike shop and had him sell it! My 1986 XT600 was a dirt bike that you could take on the road. That 1994 XT600 was a road bike that you can take to the dirt. There IS a difference.
      That is when I bought my 2022 TW200. I love riding that little bike. I have done a ton of mods to it, including a rear disc brake. There are a ton of trails here in Idaho, and I do enjoy riding my little T Dub. Maybe we could end up going for a ride together some day. I so enjoy your videos. I have a TW200, and I was wondering how it would do on this trail too Weight of it is 278 vs. the Husq 501 being 258. I think the TW would suffer with less suspension travel and horsepower. I really like the TW for tougher trails as I can reach the ground so easily, but that might be the only advantage. Is the seat height of the 501 really 37 inches? That seems way too high to get a foot down when you need. Well, I guess you're doing great, but I'd have a lot of trouble.

    I rode Moab on my 2001 BMW F 650 Dakar last Fall. I’m 71 years old. I sure AF wouldn’t try this. 🙀🙀 You’ve got the right bike for it. 👍🏻👍🏻 I traded my old BMW on a 2020 KTM 690 Enduro R. It’s got a lot more power and a better suspension. But it’s not for a track like this. 👍🏻👍🏻

    I think a 250, would have been my bike of choice. The husky was struggling with the low rpm

      I think a 250-300cc would have definitely been ideal. 500s are amazing in a lot of ways but they are definitely their own beast to learn to ride for sure 😂🤟🏼

    Area BFE makes pritchett canyon look like an amateur trail. and its just a little further outside of town. just south.

    Were I to attempt this trail, I'd do it on a Kawasaki KDX 200 2-stroke. At 240 pounds, it's likely nearly 100 pounds less than most 4-strokes on that gnarly trail. I have a KLX 300 (model year 2001, kick start only) but even that would be heavier than I'd want for this track.

    • @madjack_757

      A kdx200 would be absolutely perfect for that trail! They’re so lightweight and nimble 🤟🏼

      @osimnod at least it’s a two stroke though! Kicking a 4 stroke would be a whole other story 😂
