    So scary but reading the statistics helps out my mind at ease

    A very useful description of the timeline...But there is one question that I have that nobody seems to address: WHY is Hormonal therapy left to the very end for those that can benefit from it? Why isn't it given right away post-surgery--and maintained throughout the time of treatment with chemotherapy and/or radiation?

      @@sue8319 I was eventually able to ask that question of the oncologist. He replied that chemotherapy and hormonal therapy are actually antagonistic to each other (and radiation usually takes place right after chemotherapy) so the hormonal therapy has to be left to the end of the other treatments, as it is taken over a much longer period of time (years, not months...)

      We need everyone male and female to become aware and even be routinely tested genetically for the risk of cancers. Wow... They started my mom on the estrogen blocker in like july/august and as of the end of November they decided she needs to start doing chemotherapy and after that radiation. The doctor for some reason didn't get any of the tissue/tumor tested after it was all removed until like over a month post surgery and then kept not ordering another kind of test to be done because its the one they usually do with the biopsy tissue but never ran that test because they hadn't removed enough of the tissue for the biopsy.

      Isn't 21st corporatized "healthcare" grand? Profits increase by quantity, not quality, so we are moved through like cattle by people who are MUCH more concerned with their stock portfolios than whether we live or die.

    • @ElinorG
      @ElinorG Год назад

      I have to agree with you and I am so sorry how they treated your mom, so unfair to her and her loved ones. I don't know if these healthcare workers are lazy or complacent, but it seems like the patients, and the patients' health and wellbeing, are impositions on their precious time, and that is everyone from appointment schedulers to surgeons to oncologists. I have read about people making mistakes in pathology labs and in taking samples. There is so much room for error along the way, from initial diagnosis, to treatment, to follow-up. So how do you even know if you are getting the best treatment for your cancer. Is there a best treatment? I understand that cancer is a huge moneymaking business, but what about the people who have cancer and want to live. It appears to me that this system moves so slowly that if you did not need chemo and possibly additional surgery at initial diagnosis, you will certainly need it by the time they get around to you!
