    Me thinks it needs a bit more gravitas and poise, Denzel. Pivotal moment for Macbeth when he finally realises the game is up and he is staring death in the face.

      disagree... i liked how this macbeth is more like "fuck it" in this moment and less pompous. he's reeling and kinda nihilistic.
      i thought this version really leaned into the madness in the play -- frazzled mortals bemused by the absurd tragedy of the events they set in motion (especially in this and its "out damned spot" scene).
      a bit less psychological, more strange than other versions. the old rsc mckellen/dench one still wins for me (that one's more psychological). kathryn hunter might be the best witches i've seen tho. and the german expressionist meets kurosawa "throne of blood" visuals are so fun.

    I thought the Coen Macbeth was one of the very best I have seen, and I’ve seen at least two dozen. Denzel was a revelation - for me, he never put a foot wrong - and I loved the intimacy of the delivery of the big speeches, as if he was whispering in your ear. Frances McDormand was also amazing, as was Kathryn Hunter, strikingly different as the three witches and the Old Man. Simply stunning. The whole play, delivered in a tenebrous Expressionist staging, swept away all the mediocre productions I have attended and gave me a new respect for the play.
