Martin Luther King Jr. and The Fight For Civil Rights

Martin Luther King Jr. is arguably the most important Civil Rights leader in American History.
He devoted his life to peacefully fight against discrimination and racism for Black Americans in the United States. Dr. King was one of the historic March on Washington's main organizers, where 250,000 people gathered peacefully at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, asking for a change. Here he gave his famous "I Have A Dream" speech, where he shared his dream that all men should be equal regardless of their race.
He continued fighting for equal rights until he was shot and killed at the young age of 39 while standing on his hotel's balcony in Memphis, Tennessee. His leadership was vital to ending segregation in the United States and gaining equal rights for all Americans. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy are honored with a national holiday in the US, as MLK Day is celebrated on the third Monday of January.
Martin Luther King Jr. has been an inspiration for millions of people in the fight for civil rights and remains, to this day, one of the most outstanding nonviolent leaders in the world.
