No on K. You’re squeezing 1 million car down a one Lake Merced every day. And you’re squeezing 1 million car down 2 lanes in sunset boulevard. How is that gonna work?
I don't live there - but I say DON'T CLOSE IT! That is RIDICULOUS! I drive it, and when it was closed for Covid - and closed on weekends, I feel so sorry for the people who live there! ESPECIALLY with the tourists who don't know that area well driving on their streets.
you have no idea! I’m a cyclist so i’m semi okay with the weekend closing but my commute jumps 10-30 minutes coming from daly city. Closing it permanently genuinely makes no sense. Especially when we already have the largest community space right next to the great highway already🤷♂️
The rest of the city is already impacted by the lack of density by the ocean due to the residents of the sunset and their blocking any upzoning. I don’t care about closing the highway - but no to NIMBYs who want to city amenities and suburban lifestyle subsidized by the taxes of those of us in the dense parts!
DUDE! Do you have ANY idea how many "suburban" areas there are in The City?? It's NOT just the Sunset, there are MANY. They have a right to live in peace, too.
VOTE NO ON K. I lived in that area for 8 years up until this past year..didn't want to leave but still an SF resident. some reasons "yes on K" is a bad idea: 1. Zoning laws are getting changed in the Avenues..buildings are literally going up and will continue to. I've seen/read proposed plans. The west side of SF will go up, up, up. More people will live in the area throughout the Outer Sunset and Outer Richmond...new complexes already exist at Sloat, 45th/Judah, 44th/Noriega, etc, etc..eventually businesses will follow. Why close the main road if adding more people and attraction to the area? Not smart. 2. We don't need a park on the road. That is greedy for those in favor. The entire beach is right there and GG Park is also right there. There already is a bike route and pedestrian pathway along the highway as well. It's been like this for as long as I can remember. 3. The majority of people using that road for recreation only come weekends during heat waves or special events. The spikes in foot traffic make it is less safe with a closed road. Many pedestrians and confused drivers due to the closed highway leads to dangerous conditions. I've witnessed this much. 4. The rerouting of traffic for commuters/residents in the area is a problem. I dealt with it myself plenty. There are not good alternative roads. I do not see room for expansion of these alternative roads either....nor would I wanna pay tax dollars for them when we could just leave the highway open. 5. Great Highway will still require at least some of the same maintenance closures due to the sand piling up on the road and flooding during rain. Building a park will just cause more issues for the crews that will have to work maintaining that road....maybe they'll just cut maintenance and the park will get neglected, buried in sand, trashed, etc. anyway.....remember the beach and GG Park are right there??? Use them. Duh... The fact K is on the ballot is upsetting, especially considering a solid compromise has already been made to close the highway weekends and open weekdays. That highway is important for commuters and residents. It's saved me much time over the years and is a gorgeous drive. Leave the highway open....that Halloween party could have been elsewhere the all the same.
@@heyaisdabomb That section of the road by the sewage plant is not relevant to the main use of the highway. That closing strip is not going to have a major effect as that is the one section that actually does have a decent detour route i.e. Sloat/Skyline. The rest of the highway is the real issue.
False: the south end south of Sloath is flooded with sand. It is slated for closure already. Which will make the whole stretch a dead end urban freeway.
@@David_Journey Not false. That section of the road is not relevant to the main use of the highway. That closing strip is not going to have a major effect as that is the one section that actually does have a decent detour route i.e. Sloat/Skyline. The rest of the highway is the real issue.
@@rdenali5821 great, and where will you budget the extra money to keep the road open and fight the elements? With the park they can loose a lane or two and still be open for quite some time. I am surprised when locals vote for more spending, but don’t realize that spending will come out of their own pocket books
I would expect "Yes" on K will definitely invite more people setting up their tents in there. The city is broke! Where is the funding for building a park there coming from? Where is the funding for its maintenance coming from? Possibly they will be from the nearby property taxes??? But, who will be the most impacted due to the traffic diversion to the inner streets! Vote "No" on K!
Prop K is just diabolical. There's a park next to the highway. Not to mention that there's a walkway east of the highway. As if there weren't enough parks already in the area around the Sunset and Richmond, why need another.
Ocean Beach is the most dangerous beach in California. To save a life, emergency vehicles will need to stop, unlock the gate, and navigate through bikes, joggers, and walkers. Seconds and minutes matter in an emergency. Please vote NO on K.
I remember seeing the coast guard practicing close to the shore with boats and a helicopter and when I say close I mean before hitting sand in heavy surf. Now I grew up and worked there for over thirty years and got to see that while the beach was completely empty in the middle of the week and of the middle of the day with no one interested in it but I thought what luck I had to see the coast guard practicing in conditions I think was very dangerous. I saw that driving towards The magnificent Daly City on my way home from working feverishly fixing cars for some who use their cars and some who have cars because they just moved to the city with one. So if you’re going to coddle to some weekend beach warriors trying to hijack public areas to consolidate things for themselves tells me this measure is the epitome of privilege. Something you see if you grew up in frisco let’s just say if you’re a minority you know what top tier privilege means. Kinda like the haves and have nots and what I used to envy were people who lived next to 24 hour stores and grocery stores but like a lot about the city is nothing but a memory of a rich and beautiful history.
I feel bad for those in the neighborhood. everyone voting to feel good about closing a road to cars but don't have to live with the reality of closing down a major highway and all those cars driving in front of their homes every day. not to mention its a pain for commuters too since they have to go through a ton of stop signs. @@David_Journey it is not wasting money if the expense is for something that benefits a great amount of people, which neither side can deny the GH has done for decades serving drivers, joggers, walkers and cyclists. Yes on K only saves money if you do nothing but close the road. But if nothing is done, the area can’t become iconic like Engardio wants. But if you start adding benches, animal proof garbage cans, and dimming the street lights for the animals as suggested by one study, that will incur cost. To continue to plan activities out there as Park and Rec has funded all year to make the asphalt look more park-like is not free.
