It’s crucial, because now you deserve to get soft locked
I know a way to get up that shaft to Palace Grounds without shade-skipping. You want to stand under the opening, and then (you might need a friend for this) you turn your TV or PC screen upside-down, reversing gravity and causing the night to fall upwards. EZ.

But actually there was a recent-ish discovery called stall-ball that you could use instead of a shade

happened to me on deepnest, i didn't have monarch wings that time and I almost cried myself but luckily found a way out through secret breakable wall to queen's garden

@@FIREOWLHK I'm traumatized by those deep crawlers so i couldn't find the tram way that time xD. i died multiple times to them, they kept spawning left to right lol

The solution is actually so simple that it's laughable; you just take out your gun and shoot downwards for upward movement

Possible escape: farm the shadow creepers for geo for half an hour, then use a vengeful spirit shade skip to get to palace grounds and unlock the hidden station. I know for a fact that skip is possible with mantis claw, and I think it might just about be possible without it, but maybe not
people have tried hidden station shade skip without claw, no one has done it yet. the amount of rng and low fps damage boosting required makes it really annoying. no one is even sure if its even possible
Shades spawns preety high up, how are you goin to lure him down without claw?
@@Zane_DX there was a setup found by someone to get the shade spawn at ground level, unfortunately it still doesn’t help much

For a second there I thought you were going to get shade cloak without mantis claw and softlock yourself at that point but this is much easier and faster

I softlocked myself one time when I made it to junk pit without dash. All I had was claw and you can't make the jump to the upper platforms

@@variance1422 Fireball skip in queen's station to fungal -> explosion pogo to mantis village -> mantis pogo and get claw
When Silk Song takes so long, you become infected and try to Softlock yourself in the most desolate & empty Area in the Game.
One of the only ways to *actually* get out of this is if you upgraded your nail before hand, as then the shade from the other side could tank a fireball, but even then there is no guarantee you could get out.
unfortunately not because you still need claw to actually get wings

perhaps
1) farm enough geo for the palace grounds, hidden stag station (using those creepers)
2) somehow lure the shade near the palace ground area, make it do a vengeful spirit thing (because it goes back if it comes too near), pogo off that and simultaneously fireball the shade to get your geo back
3) stonks?
the shade spawn out of sight. even if you do get it down, you still need claw to actually make it up there, the shade fireball won’t give you enough height
@@FIREOWLHK you can still pogo up the creepers to get to the shade can't you? and since you can bounce up to 6 times on your shade (2 hits, 2 damage boosts, 2 parries) it does seem possible to shade skip up

@@FIREOWLHK I was talking about shade skipping up to the hidden stag, not back up to the elevator shaft. Idk, I'd test it out but I definitely don't have the skill for clawless shade skip, so I'm just throwing out suggestions

From my experience, it should be the exact same on ps4 as it is on pc. I didn’t use any mods in this video so it should work fine
I actually just randomly did this a few days ago after trying the clawless shade skip for the first time. Weird coincidence
if you’re doing a rando you could just benchwarp out though
@@FIREOWLHK unfortunately I play on ps4 and was learning clawless shade skip for speedruns (was only messing around though at the time so it’s no biggie)

Lol I accidentally did this to myself on my casual playthrough, only I'm 70% sure I had mantis claw because I got out through the broken elevator shaft. It was kind of awhile ago so my memory isn't the best
unless you did a shade skip, you probably had mantis claw. the only way to get into this situation is by doing that clawless shade skip

it was hard for my dad to parkour out with the shade skip i did for him
This incident is one of the poorest design decisions of the game. It happened to me on my first playthrough. You beat the Dung Defender and decide to explore down below in the Ancient Basin. Without heart or monarch wings, you have to do an extremely difficult climb back up through the elevator shaft. It's basically punishment for exploring and being curious.

Ignoring elderbug is a key objective in this type of run.
its probably more hurtful to elderbug if you do talk to him. he would never see you again :(
The shade skip might be the one possible method. Just shoot the fireball the other direction
The fireball is usually used to get the shades attention because there is no way of getting into it's agro range, but you cant do it with an unupgraded nail since the shade HP scales with nail upgrades
One way to get out but you will need to upgrade nail once (250 geo no pale ore)
Then for some reason when u upgrade ur nail ur shades health goes to 10 from higher than 15 (around 16-20)
One nail hit deals 5 dmg
Every upgrade increases it by 4 (9 dmg on first upgrade)
But the vengeful deals 15 dmg to lure the shade then do the skip and wings are yours
Then use the wings to die and lure your shade offscreen to the hidden station and leave
(Hidden station requires mantis claw and wings)
But with ur shade u can fireball stall and get out without claw
i wouldn’t really consider this an escape seeing as it requires you to have done stuff differently before being softlocked. but yeah this would totally work
Is it possible to escape to palace grounds with a stallball trick? Shoot a fireball at the slope and pogo off it to gain enough height to reach hidden station? Maybe combined with a shade skip it would work without claw
You can get more height pogoing off of the crawlers by taking intentional contact damage. I'm not sure if it's enough height to escape though.

It would basically be the same as Great Hopper%, so I don't think it's gonna happen
you have to be TRYING SO GODDAMN HARD to softlock yourself. It literally can't happen on accident
it definitely wont be happening by accident but i would argue that its not super hard to softlock yourself if you know where to go. if anything this is a testament to how well team cherry made this game, the only way to softlock is by completely cracking open the games progression
Is there any way to softlock your game (glitchless) in Steel Soul? So without shade skips.

You could grind out lantern and go the toll route through peaks into resting grounds and then into basin

@@FIREOWLHK can you theoretically get desolate dive without claw? if yes I'm quite certain you'd be able to go to oro's house and through the secret breakable floor, and you wouldn't be able to get back

I believe you can stallball the Vengeful Spirit, thus allowing for the skip to take place anyways.
Uh... Not sure about reaching the Wings without Mantis Claw, though.
wouldn't be helpful for the regular run you showed but with item/room rando you might be able to make one of the shade skips with fragile/unbreakable heart

May be escapable with new strats. To be specific a new skip was discovered to monarch wings. It might be possible to do the shade skip skip to aggro the shade and get wings or something stupid like that. Yes this was the very first thing I thought of when I saw it.

you can use you stall-ball (insanely precise) to get to monarch wings

You could have used the map to pass right trough hornet and get softlocked with quirell

You probably tried it, but could you pogo high enough on a crawler to agro the shade to shade skip to hidden station?
you need claw for the hidden station shade skip anyway
this is no longer a softlock, because you don't need to do a shade skip anymore, you can pogo your own diagonal fireball and get to broken vessel, also using the diagonal fireball you can get monarch wings without claw
you still need shaman stone for that so yes this is still a softlock. you can also just do dash only blue lake and skip fireball completely

this may be a stupid question, but why do you even need to use fireball at 3:06? is it to aggro the shade? does it not aggro if you just pogo on the spikes below to get close to the ledge?
yeah it’s required to aggro the shade. going below it doesn’t work
My only guess should be to pogo on the crawlers to get to your shade
the crawlers dont give enough height
and then along came THE DISCOVERY OF THE STALLBALL, rendering this softlock no longer technically a softlock!

@FIRE OWL why did you not go into fury on false knight if you collected it because i do all the time or am i somehow better than you? and same with hornet? and then same with gruz mother? also you can use the shades fireball(die in spike pit) to get out after farming the enemies for enough geo to get the stag station so it is not a softlock and is just slightly hard to get out of.

I did this to myself by accident when just doing a casual playthrough where I learned and pulled off shade skip
I assume this is assuming NMG? I feel like you might be able to use a float glitch to get out otherwise.

theres a cooldown on the shade attack, you can’t stay in the air long enough

you cant reach your shade and it also disappears when you get near the palace entrance

You can’t even get monarch wings without claw, trust me on this as this is not my first rodeo getting stuck down there and having a nail upgrade to do the wings shade skip didn’t help at all

I’m not sure what you mean by this, I don’t remember a spike wall. If you meant the spike floor, just go snag wings, if you meant the spikes on the path to broken vessel, just go grab wings
you probably mean all the spikes climbing up the broken elevator shaft, yeah? getting back up without wings is hard and takes a lot of practice, but you can do it! try to land low on the little wall under the right side of the spike tunnel, jump off, then pogo on the spikes a few times until you can catch the wall above. gonna be tough, and you might die from lack of soul to heal, but keep trying!
I fell into the basin in my first playthrough with only claws and dash. You acn actually climp up the elevator shaft to get out. The tricky part would be getting over the spike tunnel but you can either wall hop over it or down strike the spikes.

You can also get soft locked in the Mantis Lords Vault if you dash past the door before it closes.

@@FIREOWLHK yeah if you dash past the door before beating the Mantis Lords then it stays closed. If you bench then it is a sofr lock.

I think one other softlock is getting kings pass without double jump, and then going to the abyss and then getting shade cloak. It might be possible to escape though, i havent tried it

What if you combine the shade skip with killing the shadow creeper to get enough height to reach the shade
there was actually a setup that found to get on the right platform but you’re kinda just suck there. still not much you can do as dying again takes you back to the bench

Isn't this more of a hardlock? You can usually recover from softlock by restarting the game/console/pc, but to recover from this, you would need to start playing from the beginning, right?
yes, its more of a file lock. you cannot beat the game on this file
pretty sure you're confusing the two. softlock is when the game still functions but you can no longer progress, like in this video, hardlock is when the game/console stop functioning and need to be restarted

All they need to do to fix this is add a 1-way shortcut between salubra and blue lake

Is it possible to get out of white palace if you’re in a area without one of those teleport things? I can’t beat it and it’s driving me crazy
Get out of the save file and go back in, you should be in the elevator room bench( the big room with a bench in the middle)
If you have dream gate you can dream gate out
@@melodysm it’s impossible to obtain awoken dream nail, and thus enter white palace, without dreamgate. You obtain it talking to seer on the way there.
@@Yoob-yh5gb I forgot you need awoken dream nail to enter wp because i discovered you could dream nail that kingsmould after i already had it, only learned about it afterward through 112% speedruns

unless im mistaken, you don't need shaman stone for the skips, it just makes it much easier and much less precise, so I think it could still be possible

you can get softlocked in steel soul by getting to hornet 2 and beating her without mothwing cloak, monarch wings or crystal heart. To do this, make sure that you are on one health and have no soul when you beat her. After she leaves, the game saves your progress, preventing saving and exiting to leave. You might think "well just get kings brand and be on your way" but since you don't have any of the powerups mentioned earlier and you are on one health, the one boulder that can actually damage you inside the cast-off shell once you pick up king's brand cannot be avoided, and thus will definitely kill you, ending your steel soul run.
thats more of a forced death than a softlock but its still very interesting. ill see if i can work it into a video
wait but i think you can escape this simply by quitting out as you get kings brand to get your health back
When you are on 1 health exiting the cast off shell the boulder doesn’t actually damage you
