Shaun Attwood has her talking about her experiences for over two hours on his channel. It was very interesting. I think it's his newest video, or second newest
She's been potted in Jail. Let me tell you something: no governor gets potted in jail unless they're an absolute bully that mistreats people. I don't think you could possibly imagine the beat down you're about to get if you do that to a governor in prison. Trust me, I've spent many years behind the door and been in 21 different prisons. I'd bet you my last pound this woman is an abuser who has mistreated inmates. Anyone who's been behind the door understands this. BTW, being potted means having a bucket of excrement and urine thrown over your head. Good officers are respected by inmates because they are few and far between. So many officers are psycopathic, narcissist, cluster B types who beat, humiliate and abuse their positions and often mistreat the most vulnerable mentally ill inmates.
@johnsmith - lol ,talk about a biased viewpoint . let's cut to the chase , prisoners don't have rights. That's a weak position to take . once you get out of prison ,assuming you do , then some ' rights ' are reestablished , but when you are in the can yo deserve to be treated horribly .
It's easy to see why this lady was a Governor, she has a real presence. I can imagine she was pretty formidable when running a prison. She strikes me as someone who doesn't suffer fools gladly but also kind enough to see things from a fair and rationale point of view.
I audibly gasped when she said that a person had taken their life. I wasn't expecting that to have happened. How terribly sad and she is clearly deeply affected by it.
This woman has balls of steel. Much respect to her. I'm more scared of telephone calls from unknown numbers than she is of a building full of legit murderers.

She knows what she’s talking about and says it straight out, no flowery language, no dressing anything up. She is one tough cookie and needed to be to have any credibility in her workplace and those serving under her.
What she said about evil was a terrifyingly salient point. Despite all the factors that can contribute to a person's morality (external and internal) evil is ultimately a choice, you _choose_ to do it. It's a sobering realization that when we're desperately looking for a explanation for why an individual did something appalling - often under the misguided attempt to convince ourselves that "normal people don't do such things" - we are in reality ALL capable of doing evil. A moral framework is a hair's breadth away from carnage and cruelty.
The men and women who ran the Nazi death camps, brutalising prisoners and murdering them en masse, had all been everyday civilians themselves 6 years earlier. Most of them then slithered off to civilian life afterwards, too 😒
Well yes, are you better off coming to terms with your dark impulses and not doing them or lying to yourself you don't have them and not being able to deal with them when circumstances tip you over the edge or many other psychological bumps in the road? Even psychopaths have the ability to intellectually make choices to do right or wrong. Of course you wouldn't hear about those that don't seriously break the law because even if they know they're usually not going to announce the fact they're psychopaths.
Those who believe in the genetics lack of free will idea would disagree with you. That's a much more uncomfortable answer than the one that we can all choose for ourselves.
Mmmmm I'm not to sure about that. There are so many people who have been horribly abused as children and had no help or support for it. It all has an impact.... 95 percent of addiction is due to childhood trauma.

Vanessa was brilliant on this video I could listen to her easily on one of those videos that discuss “how real is it” that we see from other channels. Her manner is excellent could easily sit with a cuppa and watch another video like this with her. As for the last part when she mentions the jail break- gut wrenching I’m sorry for her and all those involved a horrible experience. I hope those who escaped and those who helped had time added or held accountable.
I'm 66now and time in prison and borstal destroyed me mentally. I have self harmed since I was 17. I couldn't cope after being with my nan for the weekend and she died while I was reading the Sunday paper letter page to her. I had 2friends at school and one died a week or so later. I now have 3adult children and a 6year old grandson. Since I left prison for the 3rd time I lost my baby with a heart defect,my brother died and I had breast cancer twice. I can't cope. So many awful things have happened since recently.
And my daughter just out of an abusive relationship after years. Lots going on around it still. His family stick up for him because they believe his lies. He posted naked photos of my daughter online and she woke to him under the sheets taking photos or videos of her naked body. I'm so angry.
My late husband was a prison officer before I met him. He was medically discharged after ten years and had to have psychiatric counselling. He had nightmares til the day he died 20 years later.
I'm so sorry your late husband experienced such damaging trauma in his job. I have utmost respect for him and for his service to our country. He kept us safe from monsters. I'm very grateful x
I left my job due to an injury from a patient attack. Despite all the training (from Broadmoor and similar to prisons), I still got hurt. I don't know what your husband experienced, but I've seen plenty. I am so sorry he suffered so badly from his experiences, and from the hell, you no doubt went through supporting him. I know it's nothing but I'm sending my thoughts and best wishes to you. X ❤

What an interesting woman. That escape by that prisoner was Absolutely not her fault. Those poor distressed staff. How terrible for all of them. I hope he was re-captured and they doubled his sentence
I worked for 10 years in an Australian prison and one of my senior officers was this older Maori woman. She was tiny, barely 5 ft tall, covered with tribal tattoos and with a buzz cut of white hair. She was such a formidable woman that the inmates respected her and considered her a mother/grandmother figure. She was firm but fair, accepted no nonsense, and let them know that she believed in their potential but also when she was disappointed in them. I remember one inmate in our wing got sacked from his prison job for constant lateness, and she found out the next day from other staff. When she questioned him as to why he didn't say anything, he said he knew he'd screwed up and that she'd be disappointed in him so he kept it to himself. After lecturing him thoroughly, she gave him another chance and gave him a job in the accommodation wing on the 'dish up' crew (working behind the bain maries serving other inmates at mealtimes). She gave him this job because his issue was tardiness, and he couldn't afford to be late in this job - the other inmates would hold him accountable if he was late at mealtimes. He HAD to do better. She was great to work under.
Great interview, really interesting woman with some good stories. Thanks for your work, Vanessa, you come across as firm, competant and compassionate and those attributes in combination are rare to find in the prison system.
I watched this twice in immediate succession, just because I enjoyed her candid and calming voice. The epitome of structure and don't-fuck-aroundary. No bullshitting about her staff being perfect, but that there was, and always is, some level of corruption. Her emotion in talking about the escape (despite being kept to herself) was incredibly moving. A fraction of her competence and togetherness across the globe would fix a lot of issues. I hope she knows she's real top tier.
My dad used to go round inspecting prisons for a lot of years and Vanessa is exactly as he describes almost every warden. I could listen to her stories all day. God knows my dad tells me loads. Drives my mum nuts. 😂😂
Thank you for taking the time to do this. As a brit, I cannot understand why someone would try to murder another and by extension, why anyone would consider another person to need to be murdered by the state. I'd also like to add that holy crap, I'm sorry that you and your staff had to go through the trauma of that escape. I wouldn't know if the prisoner was selfish or desperate, but the effect on on those who went to work expecting to do their job is horrifying. I hope there is/was mandatory PTSD training after that.
I was in a prison in Norway for 3 months or so as a so called "civilian worker" as I decided I had enough of being called into military service for a week every year. Anyway in those 3 months lots of things happened, I learnt a few things about humans and how they can behave. In terms of working in a prison I observed that the prisoners of course mostly were miserable, negative and depressed, but so were the guards. So I could never have worked in a prison, well not unless it was one of my last options as a job. It's a depressive environment.
Now consider that nurses are leaving the bedside, and many of us are landing in Corrections b/c it’s a SAFER and MORE PLEASANT EXPERIENCE than our hospitals & nursing homes. Please let that sink in
Massive respect to this woman 👊🏼 Pete Doherty is such a waste of space I'd forgotten about him, glad not to have heard anything about him for ages until this vid actually!
I was also surprised about that, especially as she later told that was the position she would have tried to get as a prisoner herself because it can give you intel on the guards and makes you come closest to them. That’s quite a tricky position for one of the most dangerous women in UK history.

This is so interesting. What an entertaining lady! Hope you bring her back for more.
Vanessa is incredible to listen to, the stories she must have! I know I'm gonna have to buy her book.
She’s great. Not many people in the whole world that could do her job!
There’s plenty of people doing her job, she was an assistant governor so had minimal contact with prisoners on a day to day basis
@@Alanhock75 takes a certain character !
Loved hearing these accounts, her experiences and situations and opinions.
This is good You Tube content.
Fascinating interview, will definitely be reading the book.
My dad used to go round inspecting prisons for a lot of years and Vanessa is exactly as he describes almost every warden. I could listen to her stories all day. God knows my dad tells me loads. Drives my mum nuts. 😂😂
😂
I could listen to Frake talk for hours!. She's so interesting.
Could you please tell some things you learned about people?
@@JimmyHandtrixxprobably not going to prison 😂
Now consider that nurses are leaving the bedside, and many of us are landing in Corrections b/c it’s a SAFER and MORE PLEASANT EXPERIENCE than our hospitals & nursing homes. Please let that sink in
Norway is the best place to go to prison apparently ...
I'm not surprised
I could listen to her stories all day. Fascinating ❤
Massive respect to this woman 👊🏼
Pete Doherty is such a waste of space I'd forgotten about him, glad not to have heard anything about him for ages until this vid actually!
He is immensely talented and sadly a chronic drug addict. Show some compassion.
@@MsChitterchatlol 🤣
Well done for speaking out you really are a very brave woman. I hope your message helps other ppl in similar situations 🙏
Drinking tea made by Myra Hindley like it’s nothing. This woman chose the right career path because I couldn’t have done that 😂
I was also surprised about that, especially as she later told that was the position she would have tried to get as a prisoner herself because it can give you intel on the guards and makes you come closest to them. That’s quite a tricky position for one of the most dangerous women in UK history.
I bet she makes a crap brew
true loool
I think to do a job like that you have to put your prejudices aside. Not sure I could have either
I would drink the tea, but I wouldn’t go for a walk on the moors with her
I love Vanessa,i could listen to her all day,she knows what she's talking about and is firm but fair !😍
What a kind, no nonsense lady!
Clicking on this video was the best part of my day! So interesting ! Enjoyed every second!
This woman is amazing. She's got a great, honest demeanor about her - warm and knowledgeable, but no nonsense and straight to the point.
Brillian interview of a wonderfully powerful woman; intelligent, thoughtful and compassionate. It's no suprise she's acheived so much.
