Spider Farmer G8600 - Very cheap but is it any good?

- This light is from the G Series by Spider Farmer badged as the 'Cost Effective' range of lights. I had low expectations but was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this light and especially the performance.
I tested it in a 5x5 or 1.5m x 1.5m at a relatively low hanging height of 12" or 30cm and recorded an average PAR of 989 µmols and a system efficiency of 2.57 usable PPFD/watt. This is a very high average PAR and just on the limit of requiring elevated CO2 to utilise the high PAR intensity.
You could argue it would be better to hang a little higher for more even PAR distribution and a slightly lower average PAR.
Spider Farmer recommend using this fixture in a 4x4 which would result in an average PAR of about 1,500 µmols which would require elevated CO2 in a closed grow room.
Spider Farmer is offering special offer for the 420 celebration, promo from 4/20-4/24.

THANKS Shane hope you have a great weekend 🌱💚✌🏼🤩
Another insightful review, thanks for your work hermano! Go Shane!
Thanks for doing these videos. Definitely helping a Ton of people
Hey man great review I just got a G300 which is the smallest of the bridgelux bar style from spider farmer. Overall she's a pretty good light... I think the cost was $240 which is really good for a 3x3. Like you said very well-made and the detachable driver is nice
You are Shane without a scrap of doubt the best of men keep up the fine work
Thanks love the all the info as always. Keep up the good work u rock hop you have a great day.
Another great review Shane. An amazing 4/20 sale price..?! Or will this be the standard price..?!
You may have mentioned this, so I'll watch again. Just waking up. Need coffee!
Thanks again, Shane!👍💯
Very comprehensive vid! Thank you!👍👍
Great test Great show
wonder how it would stand side by side to the se7000
That print out murdered the ink cartridge
thank you.
Shane, is there any chance you will review the Ali Express "Knockoff" QB288 boards? Especially the LM281B+ version? They are so popular but there isnt any real data on it.
We can always trust your opinion about grow lights.
Thanks for that.
Thank you!
I transitioned to the Aray series about a year ago and love them for many reasons. However, I would like to see remote dimming in combination with remote drivers. For example, when the driver's on the outside of a room or big tent, so is the dimmer, which makes it a pita to adjust on a daily basis during stretch... set the height, check the par, leave the room to adjust, go back to the room to check the par, leave the room to adjust, check the par, and etc.
In my situation, I would like my drivers to remain high (no pun) in my room with an exhaust duct moving air over them while having the dimmer function across the room near my environmental control panel.
Just a thought for a fast-evolving industry.
Be well and stay safe!
You could do that DIY in the meantime. Just get the Cables between Dimmer and Driver and extend them. But yeah, it would be rly nice to have the opportunity .Sorry for bad englisch.
Hi migro i have a se 3000 spider farmer light its supposed to be 300 Watts it only pulls 283 watts now do u know have to turn up the power on the driver so it actually draws 300 watts from the wall
Numbers are ok. Surely does great in a 4x4 with light distribution.
That's a banger at 600-700w.
can you do the medic grow lights?
that's incredible
Do you have any plans to review some lights from the Fohse range? Scorpio 1000w etc?
Hi, they have not contacted me to test them.
can you reveiew the lucius flex645w or flex-r...chinese led lights claiming, 2.9 for 645w and 3.5 for the latest model the flex r.
Were those readings with or without reflective walls Shane?
Hi, with silver mylar reflective walls
Comparing this to the kingbrite 800w you did right before this light why is this one only 11” height but the kingbrite is 24” height? I’m debating between these two and the par sheet is what’s selling me on the spider farmer but confused why you chose two different heights and how would the kingbrite do at 11”
The lights were tested at the hanging heights recommended by the manufacturer
Would be nice to see it 4x4 at different wattages
Can you daisy chain the G5000 & G8600 together?
2.57 wtf
Nice dude
❤
hi migro, does the "cri" have any importance in growing weed ? (i asked spider farmer and the cri is only 80 on theyre lm301b)
90 has more red than 80 but if a light has 660nm diodes, not to worry.
CRI is how accurately we perceive reflected colours in that spectrum, compared to sunlight. It doesn't effect light intensity or photosynthesis, just a more balanced spectrum.
@@CL-ty6wp Read my comment again. 80 CRI white is still very close to sunlight, the higher bin 90+ CRI diodes are mainly for artists/photographers who want perfect colour spectrum. For plants it is mostly irrelevent and diode efficiency is far more important than CRI rating.
@@CL-ty6wp shut up
He talk correct
Check the e27 bulbs with cri 90 just better for your eyes
True colours
I think don't affect grow or flower
Spiderfarmer not sleeping
The plants dont care. CRI is determined by how well each spectrum band is present in the spectrum to delivery best visual representation of colours. Plants don't care though.
Perfect 👌
Perfect..
Love my SE7000
Had it a couple years now and thing just throws down. As does the SE3000s. Got 2 in a 3x5 and they crush.
Very intriguing to try the G860 in a 5x5.
Do the lower wattage versions have the same efficiency?
Yeah I have the 300 w version and it's pretty much the same. The best way to run it is like he said 18 to 20 in for better coverage
5x5
That's a lot of Kale.
1500pro or Array 2 for 2x2?
Up north, lovin yer work.
Will it really help you keep your pet spiders warm and happy ?
Yes this is the perfect spectrum and light intensity to grow copious amounts of spider mites, 100 per watt easy.
I had a mars hydro with bridge lux led . It grew as well as the more expensive one next to it
Can you please tell me why Co2 is needed in a 4x4 thanks.
Hi. At PAR intensity above 1,000µmols plants have difficulty in photosynthesising at that high a rate so light is wasted. Higher CO2 enables the plants to 'breathe' better and photosynthesis at a higher rate
Spider light drivers produce a tinnitus like sound high pitched old box tv on sound. Migro has zero operation noise 😅 So glad you make Migro!!
theres no hum lmao
Mine doesn't have a 300-watt version
hum? These are solid state.
I would get to the doctors mate
Nice 👍🏾
I got my 8600 on a Black Friday deal last year. I feel like I stole it. I've had it running in a four-by-four at 60% with the driver outside the tent. I like it. I think it has excellent light penetration. The only problem I ran into was that I had to double my feeding schedule. Lol
what's light penetration ?
@@eggspanda2475you're here at a lot from people who run sea of green or scrog methods. It's a reference to how well the light will penetrate the canopy. A lot of the lower places where I was normally getting dime-sized larf I'm now getting thumb sized spears. I hope that made sense. Lol.
@@livinghorizons7068 theres no such thing. sort of like unicorns
@@eggspanda2475 Rainbow 🌈 Photon Sprinkles are the future!
@@livinghorizons7068 they do sound lovely
I got 21 ounces out of a single Humboldt Blueberry Muffin using coco in a 4x3 with a G4500. It's a great light and already paid for itself.
Spiderman approves this message.
Anyone got info on G4500 for a 4x2 ? I currently use a Mars Hydro TSL2000 and looking to upgrade. Don't wanna burn the plants as there's not much head room in a 4x2
You still looking for info on the g4500 in a 2x4? I just harvested and dried my first crop with that setup.
@@TheGreenGrower618 I went with the Chilled x3
@@TheGreenGrower618 Hey man. I'm considering the g4500 for my 2x4. What are your thoughts?
@@mattgaines3383 i made some mistakes and still pulled a pound of 29% THC rock hard buds from two plants on my first indoor grow. I have no complaints so far. I've only had it for 4 months so I can't comment on longevity yet. I just bought a par meter but I haven't been able to use it to check the light yet because I was drying in my tent so I took the light out. I may get it all cleaned out and set back up tomorrow. I want to compare the coverage my meter shows to their par maps. I did hook it to a watt meter and it pulls 430W like it's supposed to. I used the spider farmer 40W UV/IR bars for 2 hours in the evening the last 4 weeks of flower. If you're a prime member I think Amazon has them on a really good sale right now.
Such high wattage for that area!
I know that you've measured all this stuff, but I've seen small 1 plant grows using 50w LED knocking out 80g autoflowers in 40x40.
And a 150x60 box with 104w of those new Phillips bulbs doing 220g on 3 plants.
Having seen the canopy, it's hard to imagine more power = more flower.
And these guys are just regular dudes who barely use food. Maybe it's just the quality genetics available these days?
Still, can't get my head around needing 860w in 120x120. Must be growing monstrous plants.
Its a different ball game to the mini grows you mentioned, more light = more plant/biology food when all other conditions are met
I have 620w in 4x2 but never need to run more than 50% even in flower. I'd rather have the power and run at lower wattage to extend lifespan of diodes instead of putting the minimum amount of lights need but running them at 100%
Would you get this or the Array?
This light runs VERY hot.
@@loezha6794 thats nice to know - im considering 2 of these or 2 se7000's for a 4 x 8. both's drivers can be remote tho... hmmmm... both frames can accept the new SF UVA bars as well... decisions. the G series are ~£/$100 cheaper per unit
@@daveselbow9128 I bought the uva with the g. Only reason I have the G. If you don’t think you will have a problem with cooling then you would have no problem getting this light. This light performs very well but the bridgelux diodes just run too damn hot. The driver also runs hotter than the SE series. In my case I ended up spending more money with the g than if I would of just gone with the SE. I had to build another ventilation duct for the room so I now have 3, I bought a portable ac which is almost half the price of the light. And extra heat from the light also lowers humidity so I had to get another humidifier. I had to completely change the way I did things in my grow room because of this light.
@@daveselbow9128 I think 2 se7000 would make your time growing much more enjoyable but if you’re truly on a budget there’s nothing wrong on the performance side of the g8600.
The new grow light science release blows this light away! Cheaper, Samsung diodes!
would i need 2 off these in a 4ft by 8ft tent please someone help me
yes
Sweeeeeeet ✊🏾😎🌞
This light would suit me down to the ground - I have Co2 with a RAM controller in a 4 x 4 using a Mars hydro TSW 2000 that I can't get the dimmer to work no matter what I do - with this I would also be able to hang a UVB between the middle two bars - perfect....!
why you using co2 with a 200 watt grow light?
@@magnumopus9631 it depends how close to the plant with the light and overall ppfd/ temp.
@@smeghead7698 the point is its overkill for a micro grow. More important things to focus on.
@@CL-ty6wp I agree, but each to their own. 👍
My new light has 15 spectrum choices without dimming. That’s a game changer. I doubt he’s even seen it
Quick question
Not running co2
Could somebody just dimm the light down to 900ppm and improve the efficiency and go above 2.57
Since the leds won't run as hot?
Making it even better???
Greetings
Or u could just buy a 1000 watt hps light for $200-$300 bucks & do the exate same thing as your $1200 LED light
Yeah man that's what I always do... 75% is the way to go
@@donkeyballs3307 no way man the heat output is ridiculous
@@donkeyballs3307 in the winter maybe.
Temps will go through the roof on normal days
@ZFofficeonly that's why u run a ac in summertime, I run 12 -1000 watt hps ,all year round ,without a problem
My spider farmer SE3000 dimmer just failed. The light still works 100% if I switch off the dimmer controls.
It lasted one and half years..cheap component for a light that cost me £300.
Luckily an easy fix
Hi, our dear friend, could you please email us (the email can not be sent here, could you please contact our service email)? and provide more details in regards to the issue along with pictures or videos of any defects in the email, it will help us to solve it better and faster.
I would run it in a 4x4 for sure and be able turn power down to 60-65 percent and increase life of the light by double nearly. Like the g5000 don’t need be in a 4x4 it needs be in a 3’x3’ cause less get is only 32”x32” so fits easily in a 3x3. And u be able to do the same with g5000 turn power down to 65 in it to.
You don't put your numbers on the screen anymore? You barely read that piece of paper
Im ngl ive never seen a decent LED grow light under 1$/w 🤯
Why buy off sf when they half the price on Ali from their supplier.
Who’s there supplier ?
@@Jxxzph Alibaba like everyone!
I'm a little insulted that you think this is a cheap light. Cheap would be sub $200 IMO.
He means low bin diodes friend! Cheap lights use more power and emit more heat with less light output. Modern LED technology is about efficiency not par output. You get what you pay for right? Not when you're being swindled...✌️
I am very disappointed by this video. I was expecting you to be growing spiders but you're not!
🪴💚
Anyone got a spare $15k so I can get a supplier/ grower's license? 😬
hold on let me check........nope
My boss hooked me up. Go network.
Spider farmer are a good light but have the worst customer service i have come across, just pray u don't get a lemon 🍋
I think all led units are way overpriced for the tech
Lol
I just got the 300 w version for $240 I think that's pretty damn good
I'd rather buy 200$ in bulbs every few years than 1500$ fixtures when led burn/dim.
Led grow lights have a 3-5 year span if your lucky.
@@CL-ty6wp Your supposed to replace bulbs after every 2 grows.
@@CL-ty6wp you’re trippin. I’ve even got some blurple Viparspecta v300s that’s over 6 years old themselves and work like new.
Still use my original HLG 100 for seedlings. It’s from 2018 and been going nonstop ever since.
LEDs degrade extremely slowly. It’s like 100,000 hours before they even begin to decay by a fraction of a percentage.
I’ve used magnetic ballast, square, digital HIDs LEC , CMH and LED . Been using LEDs for over a decade now LED blows HIDs outta the water.
It’s not even a debate.
Getting over 3lbs in my 5x5 with 700 watts which is 400 less watts than my Super lumem hortilux . No need for AC so that’s another 550 watts I ain’t using to cool. That I now can run an extra 4x4 and pull 2lbs plus out of.
So do the math it’s simple. I’m gettin more weight , better quality and using less power. It’s a no brainer and like I said it’s not a debate it’s common knowledge.
LED fixtures pay for themselves first harvest and then some.
Spider farmer is a rip off!.
They sent me a used light in a crushed box with no packaging,no anything in the box and expected me to not only accept it they wanted me to plug in a light that could have been damaged or worse.
These people are are scammers
Bought 8 bar 650 Watters just recently 213 bucks delivered its the most solid well built I've seen and assembled in person. 2280 diodes the 281s like your arrays. I actually bought the entire stock available sold 2 paid off 8 others.
At that price the drivers will be very cheap and the lowest bin diodes. They will probably still be more efficient than HPS lights, but won't get near the efficiency of the top end LED fixtures. I doubt they will last long either, but if you get a couple of decent grows in with them for that cheap then who really cares lol.
