@@TheBigBananaRailfan I was walking the WMSR line earlier today and the 501 came down the road and it wasn't the same. Beautiful engine but you miss out on the steam show and sound of a steam engine.
@@russby3554 If all goes according to plan, #1309 should be back in action in October. I plan on making my next visit down there in December for the Frostburg Christmas trains.
@@TheBigBananaRailfan well depending on my schedule, we might run into each other. I'd show you the pictures I took last year but that's difficult to do on RUclips!
Thank you! Zooming isn’t anything to brag about on my camera, and while it can sometimes work for a more cinematic approach, it can take away from presenting a more comprehensive view of each location.
Any particular reason they're running so slow? Preserving their coal and water? I mean i know its a smaller articulated but seems like their just barely steaming along.
Speed restriction on the freight cars. Some of them are in pretty worse for wear condition, so the FRA is only allowing them to do 10 mph on freight runs. Though depending on the crew those rules can be bent slightly. The crew for this particular charter was taking it real easy.
Nice job, Evan! The C&O scheme looks great on 1309!
Thanks Vince! I agree!
I wish the kept her painted like that.
The combination of the Mountain Range echo and that Southern Longbell is ecstasy
Yes indeed!
This just fantastic, thanks for covering the charter so well for those of us that couldn't make it.
Thanks Sean! Glad you enjoyed! Hope to see you out there later this year!
Great catches and nice video
I love the sound of the 1309. There's just something about steam locomotives that captures the imagination.
Nothing beats the sounds of steam whistles echoing throughout the mountains, and the thundering stack talk of an approaching locomotive!

The last class I steam locomotive ever built by Baldwin. In a sense it’s the American equivalent of ‘Evening Star’, even though there were some after.
