Can I just say that the C&O had some eye achingly gorgeous steam locomotives in its hay day and this is coming from a Virginia native in Henrico county

Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Russell, Kentucky in the 1940s and early 50s. My uncle was an engineer on the 2700 series. Our house faced the tracks going into and out of the C&0 yards, at that time the largest independently owned yards in the country. Good work Jerry and Godspeed.

Thanx muchly for sharing this little treasure!
    I absolutely adore trains!
I love watching and listening to their clickety-clack, chuff-chuff, wooooo-wooooo, and other great train noises.
    I loved riding them.
    I miss them.
Shame all of these magnificent beasts are gone now.
My granddad retired from C&O at Union Station in DC.
Thanx so much for the nostalgia trip!

Incredible footage. The recurring theme of focusing on the head number boards and bell during runbys is a very cinematic touch. It makes the footage feel more relatable for some reason, just that extra touch of character that makes this feel like a real moment of regular industrial work instead of a misty-eyed vignette of the rose colored past.

Excellent video with a wide variety of C&O power. I have a VHS tape by JMJ of N&W Class A 1218 on its original runs after it was restored to operating condition and it is great also. One quick point: C&O’s 2-8-4 Kanawha was named after the river in my home state of West Virginia that the C&O ran alongside for many miles. Us Mountaineers pronounce it “kuh NAW uh”.

Thanks for the upload. I had, and still have, a UK-released copy of this video from when I was a child. It was a major catalyst then in my interest in American steam power. Regards, Samuel Farris.

Great video, liked seeing 490. I can tell they put her to work, she didn't look nearly as clean as she does now at the Mount Claire shops In Baltimore.

The Chesapeake & Ohio railroad had an impressive variety of steam power during the steam era and this film displays the various classes of C&O steam power. It's a true shame however that none of the t1 class 2-10-4 types and the L2 class Hudson engines were preserved for display for the future.

Great video and especially the narrative to go along with the video. I very much enjoyed it and hope that at another time, you might do one on the

Some great footage. Info on the K-4 is wrong, only 20 were built by Lima, Alco built the other 70. All of the ones presented here numbered in the 2760s were Alco builds.

Id like to get the video in original form, no commercials, and with the owners permission. This is why you cant contact the video owner directly anymore. RUclips wants your money. Thank you anyways.

I have or have tried to see many JMJ videos and have to say they are the worst videos ever made. None have been corrected to be viewable. Way too dark and some won't view properly.
