Every once in a while I get his old cd's out and listen to his one of a kind voice. I'm a rock guy but I loved Keith's stuff. I remember hearing on the radio that he died and it absolutely broke my heart. When I listen to him now I'm both happy and sad because I love his songs but I'm sad that he's gone.

Country legend right there. He is saying don't close your eyes and think of someone else when you are with me. Open your eyes and realize that I am best for you and can love you better than the one you are thinking about. He is asking her to move on and give them a try instead. It was a sad sad day when we lost this beautiful artist. His songs are awesome and you need to dig deeper with this one. Love that you recognize his awesomeness. ❤😁

Keith, in my opinion, is the greatest country artist of all time.

The song you liked by Vince Gill, was originally written about Keith but Vince never finished it until he lost his brother but in the song Go Rest high on that mountain “
    I know your life
    On earth was troubled
An only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You're no stranger to the rain”
this was for Keith bc he died of alcohol poisoning and Vince loved him. He was a great country singer. Of all of Keith’s song this is my very favorite

    • @thomassparks8294
      @thomassparks8294 Год назад +5

This is mainly for AB and anyone else that doesn't know this. I'm just going to add, in No Stranger To The Rain, there is a line, "I fought with the devil." Vince started writing Go Rest High, while sitting in the pew at Keith's funeral.

Keith Whitley would have been top 5 country artist of all time had he not died to alcoholism in the 80’s.. no one has a better voice than him ..He was married to Lori Morgan who was also a famous country singer and drop dead gorgeous!! As mentioned earlier, Keith Whitley was a generational talent that we lost way to soon.
Lost himself to depression and alcoholism.
The song " Go Rest High on that Mountain" that you reviewed a few weeks ago was written partially in tribute to him...
Give his other song "I'm no stranger to the rain" a listen too, and 'Tell Lori I Love Her', that was a demo he recorded right before his death in the late 80s.

So AB, just stumbled across you a few days ago. I’ve become a fan. So this has probably already been said, Keith was a treasure who died way way too soon of alcohol poisoning. The first video of your’s that I saw was your reaction to Vince Gill’s go rest high on that mountain. Vince started writing that song following Keith’s death, but didn’t finish it until a few years later when his brother died. Just to tie things together for those who don’t know. Country is an amazing genre of music (although personally I’m not a fan of most newer stuff) but it doesn’t matter what your going through in life, there is a song or verse or just a lyric that you will be able to relate to. As for a recommendation, and forgive me, like I said, I just found this channel, so you may have already covered him, give Clint Black’s version of desperado (originally done by the Eagles) a listen. Keep the great videos coming.

You have the wrong information. Whitley did record that song at his home. However, he only did that because he needed a rough cut of it for his friend, Curtis Young, to learn the song to sing at Whitley’s wedding to Lorrie Morgan. Whitley passed about four years after the recording. Whitley did not know he was “on his way out.” On the morning of his passing, he had coffee with his brother-in-law and had a full day planned, including golfing. His BIL left briefly, returning an hour later, to pick Whitley up, and found him unresponsive. He stated when he left, Whitley appeared sober and in good spirits. However, toxicology reports showed Whitley’s BAC was 0.47. The man was an alcoholic and, I’m sure, was struggling with his own personal issues. That doesn’t mean he purposely or willfully ended his life.
Also, the title is “Tell LORRIE I Love Her”.

Keith had one of the most quintessential country male voices ever. Such a catchy chorus on this one. Great Royals shirt as well

We lost him way too soon, due to alcoholism, but yes, he was a legend. God love him. He had his struggles.
