But on a deeper note I like what 100 gecs are doing here bringing so many subgenres of electronica that we have kinda moved past (mainstream-wise anyway) like dubstep and techno and ska. It's like they're saying "there's actually something to these genres still, there's more potential to explore within them". And i really like that approach to music

100 gecs is absolutely incredible live!!! Check out some their sets! Saw them last weekend and the sound cut out, they came up to the front of the stage, sat down, and played acoustic with everyone signing along. It was insanely cool

Not related to 100 gecs but about Dubstep: the super drop heavy and aggressive mid-range electronic music is specifically called "Brostep"-- a mainstream offshoot of Dubstep that got popular in clubs. Original Dubstep was born in south London and it's actually pretty atmospheric with syncopated and sparse beats, often with pitched up vocals or vocal samples. Skrillex-style brostep is not thought highly of by fans of dubstep, and is not representative of dubstep as a genre.
