The lightening and "LINUS" on the case looks really ugly T_T
looked great until he fucked it up with that
+Crayons for dinner
2002 called, it wants it's edgy lightning effects back.
No seriously, why the hell did he do that.
Maybe the next one will have a wolf and a moon on it...
+Crayons for dinner true
+Laffen47 don't you mean 1984 called, they want their Metallica album cover back? :P
+WayStedYou RTL :D
All for the small loan of a million dollars.
Linus's 6 year old son has a better computer than I have
The power of being e-famous and free shit
+LJWacker It hasn't been easy for me
+LJWacker and i hade to pay him back... with interest
+Major Moore they take those builds apart after they are done with them
You forgot to add the word "XTREME" to the front of the case.
This^
+SlavjanA fancy lighting and some sound effects would be neat with ultrawide formfactor
k
+Bene Hirsch he's being sarcastic idiot
+XTRMELY XTREME kk
The Lightning design looks horrible. Should have just kept it black or put more LEDs back there or something
+Platinum Edits Or maybe he could do w/e he wants to his case. Crazy right?
+Platinum Edits yeah. I liked it just black
Daniel Zgrabljic Ironic
+Josh Taylor bashing and opinion is not considered an opinion itself :)
Daniel Zgrabljic This entire conversation is flying right over your head.
You dont understand how long ive been waiting for this! Finally!
+DK_7575 U don't understand how long U be waiting for the next
#avatar
+DK_7575 Yes we do, you've waited 3 months like the rest of us :D
Me too, toooo long ;O
+DK_7575 I still can't believe it's not butter!
Awesome case but the graphics on the front look kinda cheap :s
It's Retro speed graphics
That front lightning paint made me cringe very hard
Martin Landart Or a GPU from the early 2000's
+Ivan Crespo Gomez You mean like my GPU? www.google.ca/search?q=gtx+260&rlz=1C1CAFA_enCA625CA625&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiaqKSYjvDJAhXBqx4KHV-EDogQ_AUIBygB&biw=1024&bih=667
Gorgeous custom metalwork ruined with horrible 90's sound system graphics. I wanna break in their office at night and brush it back to bare steel
Agreed.
+irsever So you're willing to... brush with crime and danger?
As an Austrian, I am slightly offended. I will now ride off on my kangaroo
Peter Kim
You
The joke
+Waga Yuuri You should have put "joke" above him...
+Peter Kim You have to be Austrian to get this joke..
+Waga Yuuri If you understand the following joke you're a true Austrian: border fence.
+John Smith I think its because the guy is mad about getting Australia confused with Austria because he is from Australia so for him being upside down at the other side of the world thats what it would look like.
Every time I watch a video like this I think to myself "how the fuck did people design and create machines like this"? I can barely draw a stick man correctly.
+mylifeisajoke1 grid snapping can be the bane of existence
If it's any solace, the same people that put that computer together made that decal straight out of the late 80s.
+Casual Alien Don't worry, they get the people like you to paint the custom lightning on the front of them.
+frenchfry01 Lol
+callowaymotorcompany No, the video said it was the neigbour
When did I stumble on a "How It's Made" episode?
Cant wait for Nvidia's exclusive GTX Socks and Sandals Ti
+crest video I'm fairly sure that gaming clothes will soon be a thing, I mean, they already sell "soccer" clothes and stuff like that anyway, but it are just normal shoes and shirts with a big logo on it.

"I fell off my box"
Couldn't you just get one of those tables that you can adjust the height?
Jack Wang he so short he needs a box lol
Aang also agrees about air bending
+HariProductionsHD There was no movie.
+SangoProductions213 There was. Look it up. I believe it's called The Legend of Aang, the last airbender or so. Not Animated and they basically turned season 1 into a piece of shit.
No there wasn't
+SangoProductions213 There was.
The Joke --->
Your head.
*Doing the bender* "Oh I fell of my box" I laughed my ass off at that moment @ 3:21
good morning linus? 3am yo. Was playing fallout but I'll take a minute to watch.
lol same
+Untitledgameshow It's 5am here and I was also playing Fallout
+Gustavo Kaplon (GK) 1 am sick as fuck here cant even sleep so happy he uploads so late
+Untitledgameshow Same here man!
Same here in Chicago 2:45 am
Oh man, I wasn't expecting this. Pretty flipping sweet. Have you already covered *why* you're going rack-mount instead of tower? Will you be installing a rack under your personal/office desk or running this from the server room?
+EposVox Not too sure myself. My two guesses are that he's probably going to either place the case in the server room's server cabinet racks, and route USB hubs/display cables out of it; or he could be doing a different take on the pc-in-a-drawer builds, where he has it mounted under his desk.
+Andrew Pang I seem to recall him saying in part 2 that he'd be running thunderbolt from the rack to his desk. But I'm not sure how he'll hook up a lot of displays and peripherals. Have to wait for pt4 I guess.
Noise
But... Why that horribly ugly paint job on the front...?
It's kinda cool
let me have my thoughts and dont complain about it
+Mackan G31 don't share your opinions with the world if you don't want some other people voicing there opposing opinion
youtube was not meant to be political
+Mackan G31 How is that political in ANY way? You guys are talking about personal opinions and how other people deal with them... Teddy is right though, if you voice an opinion you can't complain when someone else voices theirs. They're just doing what you just did. Now, I don't think the guy calling you "kid" just because you had a differing opinion was mature or deserved, but it was just his opinion, crappy or not, like anyone else. I have no idea how you brought politics into this. Are you implying that all opinions automatically count as politics? I don't think our views on the quality of Linus' PC's paintjob quite count as political views... and besides that, who cares about what you or I think RUclips was "meant to be?" All that matters is how it's used in practice, in reality. I doubt when RUclips was first founded that they "meant" for the top content to be watching other people play video games vicariously, but it happened nonetheless and they pretty much embraced it. Things in general shouldn't be thought of as limited to whatever you "meant" it to be at first. That's like expecting the world and everything in it to follow whatever arbitrary narrative you feed yourself. We can tell ourselves whatever we want, but that doesn't define the objective reality outside of yourself, only your own "personal subjective reality," if you will.
The Fronius welder being used is a CMT unit (Cold Metal Transfer). It pulls the feed wire back off the workpiece once it has sensed an arc, then pushes it back on when the arc dies. One of the units, without the hand torch, costs £24,000 in the UK.
I really enjoy you talking about the process and all the other info about the tools vs just saying what is being done.
This is an engineer's dream right here.. Protocase. Not sure I'll ever use another case besides my In Win S-Frame, but I just might have to do a second build down the road. Thanks for the video.
I'm looking for a new case to replace my current one. How much are those cutting machines?
Thousands and thousands, and there extremely large. i work with them everday at school
You also can buy some other Tools.. Just look at DIYperks ' case
+TalesOfWar $1mil Canadian Rupees.
so that's what, $50 US? I can buy them by the 6-pack!
noanoxan peasant
+XtremeDrake Laser cutting is charged out at roughly €250 / hour
Those case components would take approximately 20 mins to cut on a laser, so laser cutting alone you are looking at about €85 (though different places charge VERY differently when it comes to laser cutting)
Then there is bending, it is difficult to tell how much bending was involved in this case. Allow 4 hours total to bending assuming they have a good system in place. Charge that out at say €35 per hour. €140 for bending.
The CNC milling is a step that I would have avoided if at all possible in favour of water cutting, unsure of how much of that was required, but let's allow 2 hours at €45 per hour - €90 for CNC milling
Other machining including counter sinking of holes, pressing in nuts etc were all done manually, and so will have taken time. Say 8 hours at €45 per hour - €360 for misc. machining
Deburring and polishing will also have been a slow process that will have taken about 3-4 hours (we'll go with 4 hours) at €45 per hour - €180 for cleaning material
Finally powder coating can be done by tonnage at roughly €800 per tonne. Not sure of the tonnage involved in this, but let's just allow a nice round €200 for treating and powder coating (this is allowing for the extra work involved in surface treating and plugging holes).
That brings us to approximately €1055.00 excluding VAT to make this case excluding design and drawing costs (assuming you submit those yourself)
So for the low low price of $1155.00 you too can make your own custom case!
This is going worst case scenario btw, it could be cheaper, but my point is either way; it's not cheap!
Thats why I like your channel. you do things that no other tech channels would do.
Lightning paintjob cringe af
+H.H.C - Hunter it reminds me of something an early 2000's gpu would have on it lol
What do u mean
Hunter
When u say the paint's cringe
But u want to say sick
what do u mean
+Hearty Oatmeal more like
sickening
+H.H.C - Hunter All that had to do is buy some custom stencils, airbrush, compressor.
It reminds me of the ride the lightning album cover from Metallica
So I work in steel fabrication for industrial use (structural stuff and farm equipment most of the time) and it's so crazy seeing all of the same machinery that we use except so tiny and precise. Like, our press break is enormous and usually takes 2 to 3 people to operate, and seeing this little one being used by just one guy is so cool.
for some reason I really like the fact he openly asks people to dislike
It is just as beneficial to get dislikes as it is to get likes on RUclips.
+Vadim Viehoff Of course it is, dummy.
+Vadim Viehoff What I__T__I said was true.
I have had two 4RYU Rack Mount Cases since 2007 and they have now housed 3 systems.
They may cost more than a traditional case yet they last much longer.
omg Linus what are you 10? lightning decals? You couldn't have wanted that.
These guys are bloody brilliant, I use them for all my fabrication for my personal business... Insanely cheap (for what they do) and insanely professional.
hey linus, what is the thought process behind the front lightning design?
>Get's beautiful, perfectly manufactured case
>immediately fucks it up by letting neighbor paint it
JustLinusThings
when just a normal case is not enough and to standard...
+Dax Daily fuck off nerd
+McJammy Fuck off nerd. *
+Tea Kay if linus gets the option to make a awesome case he takes it, did you not see any of his oil cooled pc videos?
***** maybe you don't like it but aside from the lightning, the case is beautifuck.
i personally the like lightning as it's humorous.
The wielding i like the most is mig and mag because they are pretty easy to learn and do. Kemppi is a amazing Company for wielding Equipment
Guess Linus is a fan of bad weather?
I nearly started crying from laughter when he said "Woops i fell off my box"! What's sad is he wasn't joking xD
A hydraulic water cutter is cheaper. (And it uses water)
+Xavier Lim Cool. Thanks for that.
Timothy Dinkledik Welcome
**Sarcasm**
Wow this exactly like where I work!
It's suddenly funny to think that I have daily access to an O2/N laser cutter, A water jet, multiple bending presses, pretty much any workshop tool imaginable along with all materials and an employee discount, and the knowledge to draw up and program for these machines, along with constantly thinking what I could do better whenever I see a new Silverstone case getting praise.
Why have I not started designing my own cases!
Does the lightning give you 9000 more fps?
Such genuine enthusiasm @7:46
Linus why would you ruin that case with the hideous lightning.storm picture.
Linus has Christmas every day with all of the review samples & sponsorships he gets.
I'm not one to leave negative comments, but, such a pretty case ruined by a tacky plate with lightning paint job.
DANG MAAAAAANNNNN EVEN THE FIRST PART WAS AWESSSSOMMEE!!!!! Worth the wait man and keep up the great work LMG Team!
Pretty cool. I like how videos with expensive shit usually have more dislikes than any others... I'm a peasant too but I don't get salty about it lmao
lmaoo indeed
LOOK WHAT WE GAVE YOU LINUS!!! LOOK AT IT!!! AND BE HAPPY THIS IS OUR ALWAYS CHRISTMAS GIFT TO YOU
Is that serious $1'430 for a tiny corner desk. Who the hell pays for that, and why do you need a desk to go up and down when your chair does that?
so you can use it standing.
+X3Vort He's not paying for the case. Steel is cheap. What he's paying for is the labour that went into making it.
+Windoges What...? This has nothing to do with the case. Like, at all.
some people are special kind of stupid rich, sadly
+Phoenix2079x Minecraft&More not linus media group.
I used the same kind of Fronius welder. It uses CMT - cold metal transfer technology and minimises burnthrough and spatter.
3:22 Lol I fell of my box so linus stands on a box to look tall in videos? xD
Loved the technical aspects more than the case itself!
wonder how much it costs for a custom case...
awesome case...and thanks for the memories...I did my apprenticeship at Fronius Austria, where they originally come from.
LG
Leave it to Linus to turn a slick looking case to a 12 year olds first gaming PC from 2007...
This kind of "how it's made" content is really cool, and I'd love to see more in-depth looks from you guys at how computer parts are made!
No one talk about those air bender skills from 3:30?
the press force and everything is automatic there , you just need to hold the part and press the pedal :P
yeah, well - you have to hold it in the right place.
Well , not rly, there's a stopper that tells you where exactly to hold it, you push it to the stopper and press the pedal. The hardest part is hold it parallel to the floor. Not saying it's all easy tho, just saying lots of things there already calculated by computer, it's a CNC bending after all.
As mechanical engineer and a techie... This gave me the best of both words.. Amazing video Linus!
Worlds*
am I the only one that thinks UpDesk are a little over priced? I understand that when you buy a updesk you're paying for a premium desk, but got damn, 1,000 us dollars for a DESK with hydraulics is a little over priced.
+Magikarp GG I have a triangular designer table (not electric) costs about 2000 euros (i didnt buy it though) so no updesk is not overpriced
+Magikarp GG It's definitely not cheap but it's not overpriced either. At first, it may seem trivial - desk that goes up and down. But it's not just that. First, try browsing for a larger office desk that can be disassembled, is sturdy, doesn't bend under weight, doesn't wobble even slightly and stands on two legs. You'll eventually come to the conclusion that it's some pretty damn expensive piece of furniture. The materials might be relatively cheap, but the manufacturing isn't.
Adding a reliable hydraulic solution that won't affect the aforementioned properties of the table and operates on the push of a button is some pretty fine engineering and I'd say the price is right. You can find some desks without height adjustment in this price-range.
CanIHasThisName thank you sir for your highly detailed explanation, I guess i just got use to my 40 dollar ikea desk that has lasted me 5 years now..
Getting to witness the full process and having an explanation for each process was awesome! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
That lightning airbrush looks like a cheap gaming of from the early 2000's. It would've looked even better without it. Still looks great.
Front panel matches your spectacular nerdiness. Don't change it.
Lightning design on the front, what year is it? 2005? Ew.
Skellist in two years it'll be ironically fashionable. linus understands this
We use a fronius weldingmachine at work to weld power transfer units for AWD cars :) That stuff is really strong
You..... You barely showed the final product dude! what the hell, that is like a teaser.
it's refreshing to see something made properly on LTT.
To be honest. The front looks like shit
Glad to see your new build coming together, been excited to see this for a while now. Such a beautiful case!!! However, that front side paint job is hilarious.
Why Linus..... why did you have to ruin that beautiful case with that ugly lightning finish.
Joe Tuffin two years from now that will be as ironically fashionable as the painted flames are now. he's planning ahead, he wants this thing to last
this reminds me of those episodes when Mr. Rogers, from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood show's the inner workings of an office or factory or whatever with Picture Picture. Memories!!! LOL
The lighting paint make the case looks like a 8 years old custom gaming case
I really liked the minimalist look of the case before the lightning was put on. The lightning just looks like an old style that we've moved past.
gosh the decals are ugly
sigh
That's one great case! Also makes you appreciate cases after seeing all the work that goes into them.
it looks like a 2005 graphics card xD
i don't really like it thoe, im sorry
'million canadian rupees' I spit out the water I was drinking there😂
Stuff like this normally doesn't give me that sense of "HOLY SHIT THIS IS COOL" but for some reason this made me really fuckin' excited. Thank you, Linus, for making me feel like a child again
"Seven one-thousands of an inch" wow, if only that was a compreensible unit of measurement!
Great looking case with much more to it than first meets the eye. I realize this rack is a custom design. However, did you consider having your template saved by the company for others to purchase?
This was like watching one of those "How it's made" video. Loved it.
Damn that loading screen fooled me. So glad theres a Linus vid before bed time
This is a perfect example of Linus being SO good at explaining things, tech or otherwise.
I want to see it actually mounted. It will probably be put into some kind of server rack but it would be cool for a music producer with a lot of rack mounted synth equipment to have their computer with them right there as well.
"Oops, fell off my box"
I KNEW IT
Man, Linus catching so much flak for that lightning paint. It's seriously not that bad peeps, and he can paint his custom rig however he wants.
Best How It's Made video ever. Fitting music too
I thought Linus was a professional tech channel but looking at that lightning design im starting to doubt the professionalism.
You need to do more of these. My PC is rackmount and I want to see a full 44RU rackmount build
Toph must've been running the place. METAL BENDING!
These desks are ergonomically amazing. I used to work at a desk all day and stand up for the sake of staying healthy. I really wish I could have lifted my desk at those times.
1990 Called. It wants that lightning art back.
It looked so nice and professional when it was gray but now with the "artwork" could be a nice gift for my 10 years old cousin.
Check out the the guru 3d rig of the year 2015, it takes pc building to the next level. Pretty much the best ive ever seen imho.
After 3:30 story gets serious.
Water! Metal! Laser!Air! Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Laser Nation attacked. Only the Liunatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed
him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and nerd-gang at LTT
discovered the new Liunatar, an airbender named Linus. Although his airbending
skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save any PC let alone
anyone. But I believe Linus can save that ugly-ass lighting paint-job.
Btw go with Evodesk and not Updesk, it's a bit more expensive but you can customized it a lot and it uses really good material
One of the coolest LTT videos ever.
Love the "How It's Made" ... but... a rack-mount chassis with a see-through window?
whats the point of the glass on top? your not gonna see it when its in a rack
Is the width of a server rack the same as a stereo rack? If so this would be somthing that should be mass produced. A gaming system could be set up with the computer, and servers, but aslo recording quality amplifiers.
ahh, the new episode of how it's made. wonderful!
I love Canadians: 2.5kW laser focused on a spot 0.007 in diameter. Makes me question how deep metrication made it into Canada.
this is one of the coolest videos i think you guys have uploaded in awhile, great job
at 5:05 when you're welding.
You're not supposed to get that black soot around the weld. Was the shielding gas present and/or turned up to proper pressures?
Thats still mig welding linus and its not a propietary thing. Its a GMAW set on pulse mode though only higher end machines have it. ESAB makes them as well as miller and lincoln.
