So maybe someone can give me a clue as to why he did what he did. Why did he draw in air from outside, possibly also drawing in dust, dirt, and rain (or dew or clouds or whatever wetness is going on outside) rather than exhausting air from the hot room to the outside? Just like a bathroom fan, it would draw cool air from the rest of the climate controlled house rather than the potentially computer damaging air outside.
he did it because it's the easy way to do it not necessarily the correct way. That room will be a dust disaster after a summer of running this setup without a filter. He needs to grab a cheap pleated furnace filter and tape it over the outlet from the fan. It won't be perfect but it will make a massive difference. Moisture issues are also a concern but less so than dust as we don't get really really humid air around here.
Yeah see some kind of filter is what I wound have expected him to do. Turning that fan around would have been easier also, so I don't know why he didn't do it. His AC would only have to cool his house, not really his computer, since either way the air form the house would be colder, and with the coin he makes, I'm sure he's not concerned about saving energy.

I really like these kinds of videos, with useful DIY stuff. I mean it's cool to see a $30,000 computer, but not a single viewer is ever going to have one
Well even if you don't have such a setup it could still be of use, for example if your scenario is similar enough construction wise it might be applicable to ventilating a room you use your computer in that gets very warm due to poor ventilation. I would suggest to add an actual air filter though, not just a grate to prevent small insects from entering.

Here in the USA, our homes are actually insulated. A 4 inch layer of fiberglass insulation holds temperatures better than FIVE FEET of stone wall.
well i have a double concreet walls with steel frames inside the concreet and between those walls is about 5 inch of fiberglass insulation so ur houses are just crap basicly

For the dimmer switch, you could control that using an arduino and a thermostat.
ALWAYS RUN OUTLETS ON DIFFERENT CIRCUIT BREAKERS THAN LIGHTS....
I don't know ... I've gone back and forth on this philosophy. For pros, it's a dumb idea. For the home gamer, then it may just help them diagnose which room is connected to which circuit. Sure, there are better tools then a light in the ceiling, but it's better then nothing.
+FlipFlopGaming The main reason not to is you don't want high power draw on the same circuit as your lights. There was a lower wire in the wall that would have been ideal for high power draw as it was a dedicated outlet wire.

This is interesting, where do you live? What is the code? Where I live, in my experience and too my knowledge, all 15 amp circuits lights and outlets are done with 14/2 loomex.

I've been toying with the idea of a modified cooling system using a Geothermal cooling set up. I'm not sure how well it would work but The Idea really intrigues me. seeing as the deeper you go the cooler the ground underneath you gets for a while. I made a cooling fan prototype for my Beer brewing shed and that works pretty good.

Two things.
1. It's better to use an exhaust fan to actually exhaust than as an intake. Less of the outside environment gets in the house and the noise level is reduced somewhat because negative pressure makes less noise in the room. Let the central air seep into the room under the door or through a small vent on the door.
2. Never use a dimmer as a speed control on AC motors. Always use a solid state speed control.

For anyone looking to ballpark "How much air do I need?" here are some rules of thumb from data center planning.
_CFM = 1.78 x (equipment power in watts / temperature difference in degrees Celsius)_
In installations where the exact temperature difference is unknown, Dell recommends a minimum of 9 CFM per 100 W. That assumes about a 20° C difference.

You could put on a sound damper before or between the air motor and the room, it almost kills the noise, and you can keep the fan speed up at max without any noise. The damper comes in different sizes from 300mm to 1200mm. Maybe just put a small 300mm before and after the motor. I have it in my house and I barely can hear the motor/air noise.
