    Troy Aikman has said this is the game he's "most proud of" so after nearly 30 years I've brought myself to re-watch in spite of how disappointing loss was for Cowboys fans. A mistake free and better coached game would have made this game MUCH closer -- I knew Boys wouldn't win after giving up that TD before halftime. Valiant effort from the players on the field. Grateful for this rivalry - nothing like it since. Long live 90s NFL.

    With the MLB/NHL strikes of that time and Jordan’s retirement and the NBA in flux, you could argue that in the summer and fall of 1994/early 1995, the Cowboys and 49ers were the biggest teams in all of sports. The only other squad that came close was maybe the Orlando Magic when they had Shaq/Penny
    Like with no baseball/hockey games from August onward of 1994, it made DAL/SF matter even more if that’s possible.
    It felt like a national divide- even neutral fans or fans of other teams would take sides when these teams faced off.

      of these two clubs and that the Super Bowl itself was so anti climatic.
      It was Green Bay ending the Cowboys/Niners lockdown of the NFC and Denver making the AFC relevent

    • @rickanduiza186
      @rickanduiza186 4 года назад +3

      That's because we beat ourselves and it was a loss to the niners. We came in unprepared because of that coach and Jerry Jones firing. Fell apart early 21-0. Then started a comeback and kept blowing our chances. Missed FG early on, Larry Brown got burned by Rice before the half 31-14. Started to comeback again and kept making mistakes. Aikman over threw Irvin for a sanders pick. The no call PI late in the game killed our last hope. We should've won that game. They fought like champs and never game up. Aikman said that was the most proud game he played because they kept fighting. That's why it hurts so much. I feel the exact same way, it bothers me to this day. And the next game was the 2014 divisional game. We win that game and we win the super bowl.

    • @rhmayer1
      @rhmayer1 4 года назад +1

      You guys are good Cowboys fans and list all your specific misses and failures correctly, but you're missing the fact that the 9ers were just more dominating on both sides of the line - not by much, but enough. There's a reason for those interceptions and constant sacks and QB hits, which led to pressured passes that missed their targets. And there's a reason those holes got opened for those big Ricky Watters runs and the multiple weapons Steve Young had, including his own legs, that kept defenses from settling in. But though I'm a 9er fan, Deion should definitely have gotten the PI call in the 4th. Not only was it clear, and a possible momentum changer for the Cowboys, but I just think it would've made a great game even better. I did not want that game to end. Cowboys played their hearts out and it would've been nice to see it go into OT. It deserved to be an OT game, ...with the 9ers winning, of course!

    • @cortchiewelch9492
      @cortchiewelch9492 4 года назад

      @@rhmayer1 i appreciate your response but this is mostly revisionistic. the cowboys turned the ball over three consecutive possessions to start the game. that's called not being ready to play-- in a hostile environment on the road, between two evenly-matched teams. if sf were really dominant, the game would've been out of reach and over by halftime. super bowl 29, now that was a dominant performance from sf.

    • @rhmayer1
      @rhmayer1 4 года назад +1

      @@cortchiewelch9492 I respectfully disagree. Those first 3 turnovers didn't just happen because the Cowboys weren't ready to play. C'mon. This is the NFC Championship. They were more prepared and practiced than for any game that season. Aikman and others were veterans and knew how to prepare the team. Three consecutive turnovers happen only when there's a dominant defense. The 9er d-line dominated most of the game and their secondary blanketed or was faster getting to the ball in most cases. Sure, they didn't dominate as much as SB XXIX - there are degrees of dominance. But even then - if you want to compare the two halftime scores: SF led by 18 in that game (28 to 10) and led by 17 in this game (31 to 14); I'd say about equally out of reach at half-time, mathematically. Dallas did have a chance in the 4th - pity that the PI wasn't called on Deion when it clearly should've been. But even then, they would've needed 2 unanswered scores - not likely. The Cowboys never took the lead in the game and 2 scores behind was the best/smallest gap they had to overcome. I'm not saying they never had a chance. They played with impressive heart the whole game. They got a touchdown in every quarter but just never really dominated except for a couple of impressive drives. Sure, the 49ers didn't score in the 4th, but they went into a softer prevent defense to force short plays and run down the clock and played conservatively on offense also to run the clock and to prevent injuries in prep for the SB. Overall you could argue that the Cowboys performed better in the 4th, but they were never a real threat IMHO.
      I would concede that during the game the intensity by both sides obscured the 49er dominance. It didn't feel like the 49ers were dominating after the first 3 quick scores, despite the big lead. It took a little while for the 9er d-line pass rush to really click and change the feel of the game by the end of the 1st quarter. By the 2nd half there was a clear sense of who the better team was that day. The 49ers buried the Bears in the previous Divisional Playoff and buried San Diego in the subsequent SB - both by bigger spreads, with the 9ers scoring in the 40's. The Dallas game was clearly the least dominating/closest of the 49ers games that postseason. I really wish they called the PI on Deion and that Dallas scored and came back to tie it up. It was a great NFCC game and would've been even more historic if it went into OT. Dallas played with heart the whole way and from a Cowboy fan's perspective it deserved to go into OT. (But from a 9er fan's perspective, they would never have allowed it to go into OT by an unanswered comeback. Not that team, that year.)

      Adam Walker fumbled the 2nd half kickoff, giving Dallas a short field. If either of these plays don't occur, this game is never close.
