I love your reviews, you always try to maintain a critical and impartial analysis of cars. It would be great to see your review of the BYD 06 GT, a car that we here in Europe are eagerly awaiting. Thank you.
Actually I already place my booking for TMYLR, after testing Chinese’s EV such as BYD, Aion, MGS, NETA, XPeng and recently launched (Geely Galaxy E5)here in Malaysia rebranded as Proton eMas7 with stiffer suspension, finally i ended up with Proton eMas7. For me this car is the most worth EV at it’s price range. In near future i might as well replace my current MPV with Denza D9
The ground clearance of the Galaxy E5 is much higher than that of the model Y. This is also one of the reasons why high-speed energy efficiency and chassis stability are at a disadvantage. But in exchange for better passability.
We in Australia seem to not be receiving many EVs that are readily available to Indonesia, and we have no tariffs on Chinese cars. Importers here are short changing Australians by only importing SUVs and their ilk. I'm waiting for the vehicle you recommended as an international EV, the baojun/MG/Wuling Cloud to go on sale here, I have the cash waiting.
this car even invades my dream last night lol. my wife keeps pestering me to buy it, but geely hasnt officially launched it. they did announce the RHD version will come to Indonesia in their frankfurt media event tho.
I've thought a lot more about the efficiency aspect lately, as I am considering buying my first EV. I believe it to be a side issue, a moot point, as by far the main cost of ownership is depreciation. Efficiency really does not matter. But we love to nerd over it don't we. What I want is to see EV prices stabilise
That's true. The EVs are evolving too fast, that you can easily have a outdated one in 2-3 years. that's why depreciation cost is high. But efficiency does matter when you run middle range (400 - 600km) often, some EVs can go to the destination without charging.
Today in China, the second-hand residual values of electric vehicles and fuel vehicles are not high. The main reason is that the price of fuel vehicles has dropped significantly due to the impact of electric vehicles. If there are only a few electric vehicles in your country, then fuel vehicles may have a greater value retention rate at the moment. But you can't guarantee the future.
Whether it is an internal combustion engine car or an electric car, they are all industrial products produced on a large scale on factory assembly lines. They are not gold. The Chinese market proves this. Based on the fact that the original measurement standards three or four years ago have been completely overturned, as the electrification of the Chinese market continues to advance, the indicator of value retention rate has become ridiculous. A brand new Toyota Corolla only costs 70,000 yuan, a brand new latest version of Toyota Camry,Honda Accord costs 120,000 yuan, and a brand new RAV4 hybrid costs 120,000 yuan. How do people who bought these cars at double the price three or four years ago view the value retention rate?
I would love to see Geely vehicles in the United States; even with tariffs, Geely already produces Volvos and Polestars in South Carolina, so they may not be eligible for tax incentives, but they may be able to avoid tariffs.
i can tell you for a fact - there is a part in geely that is almost 50% the cost compared to in Tesla, design is different, but function is the same, no difference to the consumer. Chinese know how engineer and spend their money wisely. I understand why US enacted 100% tarriff, if not Chinese cars would demolish the competition. Btw Tesla is actually a good value, other america EVs, the part is about 3x more expensive.

All Chinese EV Vehicles report an average consumption and not the actual consumption. So the only way to be sure is to cover the same distance in both vehicles then charge and see what was achieved. What is the G5 vehicle weight.
If I let go the throttle on my Tesla the regen kicks max in ( according to settings) and if I brake the regen does not turn off because of the braking ( only if braking would lock the wheels) . Did you sell your ID.3 with or without the stickers ?
The Galaxy E5 also recuperates energy when the Accelerator pedal is released, but it is much smaller than Tesla. Maximum energy recovery occurs when the brakes are applied partially. This can make the driving experience closer to that of a ICE vehicle.
@chjin1796 philosophically I don't need features from the technology from yesterday and it's experience. I thought many chinese ev car buyers typically buy their first car ?
@hindafinga4890 Most EVs are not their first car. Even as the first car, the Tesla was still vastly different from the cars they used in driving school. Single-pedal mode, button turn signals, screen shifting, and elimination of instrument screens make Tesla too unique.
@@chjin1796 I think driving school hours aren't that numerous to lock in driving habits. Audi and Porsche do this brake pedal triggered recuperation too and you always need to use the foot to activate it which is imho superflous - and the other differences you mentioned are there but irrelevant for the recuperation mechanism - bottom line is : I wouldn't most likely buy a car with brake pedal activated recuperation ( either full or partial) . I also don't understand why they don't make it configurable through the user interface to everyone's gut feeling - its always software that activates recuperation by a sensor value - that can be easily the Wattpedal or the brake pedal sensor value
China's Galaxy E5 is more than $10,000 cheaper than China's model y. Overseas, the Galaxy E5 is more expensive, but model Y is also more expensive. So Galaxy E5 is still a good choice.
It'll be interesting to see if it makes it to Australia and at what price. Probably around A$45K if the BYD Atto 3, Leapmotor C10 and Chery Omoda E5 are any indication.

Has a larger dashboard. Have a good car-machine system. It has a 16-speaker sound system including headrests and exterior speakers. More space and more comfortable seats. If you buy high-end trim, you can get seat massage and passenger leg rest functions. Better chassis passability. There is a sunroof that opens and comes with electric sunshades.
Why say it's good only if you don't do many highway trips? Here are the key specs that disprove that criticism big time: -Range: 530km or 440km -Fast charge 10%-80% in just 17 minutes thanks to Geely's own state-of-the-art Aegis LFP long-blade batteries. What? Because you'd have to stop every 3.5 hours for a 17 minute charge+coffee break the Geely Galaxy E5 isn't great for very long highway/freeway/motorway trips?!? (Paul G)
That car is cheaper but the motor power is much worse. In addition, it is unacceptable that its low-profile models reduce the price by reducing airbags.
@renbangbprd7236 The price of the basic version of AION V 650km is more expensive than the highest version of this car. These two cars are not in the same class.

In addition to being much cheaper, the interior is much better designed, more beautiful especially in white.
Emas7 choose the hideous Indigo Blue interior. Horrendous. Even Brown is much better
wait till few years, it will start to get yellow fever
White looks great - but is not so practical (with kids). So I always a dark interior. I also like it cozy...
ofc it would be offered in different colours
