You pretty much wrote it off for a lack of idiot proofing? Sorry for the rant, but… your safety is your responsibility not the manufactures. They tell you the dangers… the redt is up to you. It isn’t difficult or require any real effort to operate safely - don’t leave any laser tool running unattended. Also don’t use grinders or torches either…. No fire and smoke shutdowns on those either (sarcasm) - No tip over switch? How bout just don’t pick it up and point it at yourself while it’s running. If you lack the confidence to manage the minuscule and easily managed risks associated with these machines….stay away from actual dangerous power tools
The sensors weren't why I wrote it off, but the lack of complete shroud. No protection on one of the faces is dumb. The rest of the issues were icing on the cake, when the majority of the competitors are including those features within cooee of the price. It would be unwise for anyone to recommend this over other models, but you would have realised that if you watched all the way through
@@TheWoodKnight Which competitors are offering? I can get a Sculpfun WITH an air assist for a lot cheaper price than an xtool machine that sells the air assist seperately and stil costs you over 200$ more for... what? Plus the sculpfun has a smaller laser with less falloff as distance increases which out did the Atomstack X20. How you gonna make a video about a laser machine and not even mention the laser or test its engraving and cutting ability against other machines?
The air hose they supply now is rubber and much much better- doesn't kink unless you try. I just got the s30 pro with the 900x900mm expansion. Building an enclosure as we speak. I'm building my own safety features using some switches and a couple web cams that cuts power and sets off an alarm- those things aren't too difficult to setup as a separate standalone system.
These sorts of videos are slowly giving me an appreciation for what to look for in a laser, cheers Paul. Still have no intention of picking one up anytime soon, but the list of 'offers' in my email storage is at a level where I'm sure when I do want one I'll have a reasonable selection to choose from :P
It gets a bit nuts after awhile doesn't it? Pick from the one with the best copywriting because if you need to attach any conditions they're the ones that wont' send you in loops tearing out your hair! ;)
Nah the safety mesurements on diode laser are just marketing ornaments tbh, the fire sensor never works fine, the stop buttom is the same as disconect the machine or just push the power button, but yeah the machine is just S9/10 with airassist at least in price is a better deal just because of that...
Pricing looked to be about $100-150 more for s30 at the same output, Ive heard fish tank pumps work well and can be had for ~$30 or so, but I haven't looked into it.
@@TheWoodKnight yup but is not only the pump is also the limit switches and the air assist nozzle preinstaled most users have to do some terrible 3d printing if they are skilled, the lens replacement, is also a good pro I mean at least it have its perks as a cheap intro laser ""
YT is plagued with shill reviews and it is very refreshing to have an honest perspective on products that really seem to be identical to the uninitiated. Thanks WoodKnight

I own this machine and am very happy with it. It cuts even 6mm plywood, engraves extremely accurately and the build is sturdy. Would buy it again!

Sculpfun is a better laser for cutting boxes, because its beam is symmetrical @ .08
Yes, 5.5w laser mostly is for engraving stuffs, they can still cut but at very slow speed.
I think ( and cut ) thin paper with it.
you are just unable to use a laser .. i have the same laser and half the problems ...
Obviously this is the update of the S9/S10, the others have been discontinued... I have a 33W one and it cuts pine boards up to 30mm 😂😂

No enclosure / open box laser engraver product should be banned for violating safety for typical users 😂
