Thank you for your excellent review. I'm fortunate to have a 40watt Falcon and can say its an incredibly versatile tool. The added protection is a very good idea, however the problem you had with the cover is entirely predictable. You have to question just how much you need to see what's going on when the laser is firing. Much better to have good access to line up work. With out a cross hair, I question how you can use one for precision work. I fitted one using you previous video and it's essential. I find the edge burning of wood difficult to accept. Better to stay within sensible thickness of material surely. I have used a 2kw laser in the past and to see it cut 6mm steel is something to experience. I’m actually making cabinet drawers. My 40W CO2 laser only cuts 1/8” ply efficiently. Struggles on anything thicker. I bought the Creality tent for my Falcon. Works okay, but will build my own enclosure with 2020 aluminum. Keep the faith!
The laser review was thorough and informative. The camp stool part produced something attractive and functional. As for the philosophical bit at the end, if no one can prove or disprove something, it makes no sense to debate whether one should believe or disbelieve that thing. I believe that mockingbirds, well, mock me while I'm playing golf. You believe that birds can't really talk. I am just as entitled to my belief as you are to yours.

As a laser operator hustling joblists between 3 10+ KW industrial fiber lasers, I have no use for a desktop laser cutter, but I can't deny the incredible inspiration to create this machine would give people. To be fair, I'm privvy to have access to equipment capable of cutting 30mm RVS at higher speeds than this 60 watt diode laser can manage. I'm hoping the desktop laser cutting space will have room for improvement regarding metal cutting. In my opinion, the true home laser revolution will only happen when these things are capable of cutting atleast 3 mm rvs or cheap cold rolled steel. I'm holding my breath on Aluminium, given the high reflectivity being the number one factor for decreasing laser lifetime. Steel should be a decent possibility, if the industry is willing to invest in air protection. Cutting steel creates very fine rust powder, especially when using helper gas like Nitrogen. At industrial scale, it's not uncommon for 16 bar's of nitrogen being pushed through a 1.5 mm gaslens/nozzle. Bedslats are eroded away to nothing by cutting Aluminium on Nitrogen, but they accumulate slag when cutting thick steel on Oxygen, etc etc.. Tldr; there is many hurdles to be overcome before that kind of capability trickles down to the hobby and homeshops..
I'm an atheist, but I still enjoy your videos. At the end, you said that there is very little proof and that you had to have faith that your chair would support you when you sat on it. I thought it was a clever attempt at an analogy; however, the material properties and construction of your chair provide the proof that it would support you without you having to sit on it first, due to the observable and testable laws of physics. However, with Jesus, there is no testable evidence that can provide proof he exists, so you have to have faith, since faith is literally to believe in something with no evidence. However, if believing in something that can't be proven makes you happy and gives your life more purpose, and it doesn't hurt anyone else, then you should believe in it. I don't believe personal connections with imaginary things are harmful when they yield obviously good effects. They only become damaging when they enable you to control and manipulate other people using those imaginary things presented as facts. At the end of the day, regardless of whether or not you believe in an imaginary person, it won't change the fact that we've all existed as matter and energy forever before we were born and will continue to do so after we die, just in a different arrangement. That is provable by physical evidence. So there is no reason to fear death since it's a natural part of our existence as matter and energy, just in various different arrangements, and that gives me peace. Just because we don't remember what happened in previous arrangements or even during much of our current state doesn't make it any less comforting to me that we're all eternal in one way or another. I wish you well and enjoy the videos. Your faith clearly helps you deal with what life throws at you, and that's a good thing. Everyone has a right to be happy and believe what they want. I just don't like organized religion because it's a means of control over other people for the benefit of the minority at the cost of the majority, with false promises of gifts for the people who suffer in exchange for serving and giving a quality life to the minority that exploits them.
Very nice your experiment. For the camera i saw another video were you can adjust the distorsion. I have many lasers, from 90w co2 to 30/60/50 fiber and 5w uv and another 30w rf co2. Nice how this diode laser can engrave leather, i think the only down is they are very slow at engraving and the bold laser ray at 60w.
I work at an advanced manufacturing facility run by NJIT. In our fleet of awesome equipment we have a Phillips hybrid. It combines a HAAS UMC750 with a Meltio metal additive system. The reason i bring it up is because it uses a set of 6 200W diode lasers to fuse metal wire into 3D shapes. I'm not sure exactly what laser tech it uses but i know they are a type of blue diode laser. They are not ytterbium fibber lasers. They are definitely the most powerful CW non fiber lasers Ive come across. But the Meltio system cost as much as my house so its not really fair to compare it to a desktop laser cutter.
@@nobodysbusiness87 wow that's some serious kit. I get a lot of my steel laser cut with a 10kw laser which costs about £500k. It's definitely not a consumer desktop version though. It has an auto feed system for 2.4m sheets of steel up to 12mm thick. Cheers J

They could add a periscope arrange of lenses to solve the lack of distance for a narrower camera lens maybe. or just add more cameras and correct for the deformation with code.
I think the image geometry could be improved quite a bit in software by convolution with the lens parameters. It's a very controlled environment for that sort of thing, you know exactly where the camera is and the focal plane should remain pretty close to dead parallel with the work surface.
Plywood is sized by it's pre-finished thickness. So if it's rough ply, it should be pretty close to it's labelled size. Finish ply has been sanded, so will be a bit thinner.

Firstly, the laser was impressive with the three levels. The enclosure çould have been better thought out, giving more flexibility to the owner/operator. Using a fish eye lens would introduce error just because the distortion is always there. The seat I thought was great, especially with your Bible references, a good personal touch. But know that I mean that out of love. Cheers J
Great job. The key safety features, enclosure with interlock, separate operational key, and all that allow them to list a laser as a lower class like class 1. Then they can sell to facilities that have laser safety officers that will allow it onsite. If you dont care about all that, most of the safety measures can be sidestepped. That measuring system is a bit ole fashion though.
It takes a lot of strength and boldness to face this wicked world with the truth. God bless you for sharing your faith! I've witnessed miracles from my water line breaking and literally randomly digging up a spot to instantly find the source (among roughly 300 meters of buried pipe) to seeing someone healed of a brain aneurysm. It's truly a great journey we're on... difficult, but great.
Thank you so much. It's an incredible journey once you allow God to work in your life. It is helpful knowing everyone's walk with God in the Bible was wrought with difficulty, tragedy and lack of faith despite witnessing the miracles, words from God and the fulfillment of prophecy. I was damaged by a member of the church I dedicated 10 years of my life to. I still have my belief, but I won't let it be my all. Life is there to be lived and enjoyed.
@@thesalopgardener That's unfortunately the case for a lot of people, I myself have witnessed terrible behaviour from members of churches. Note that Jesus spoke directly against these people and warned that corrupted people like that will show up in churches (Matthew 7:15 - they come in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravenous walves) and even Paul in Corinthians also addresses church disputes and encourages resolving them. Not every church is alive or spirit filled which depends on if the leadership is too controlling or religious and does not allow freedom of his spirit. We are however called to fellowship and work together as a united church. Remember Lions prowl around herds, they wait for one to go astray because the group is too Strong together and united. I would highly recommend joining a new church that is working in exactly the way it's described in the Bible. Like Jesus said 'you'll know by their fruit'. Cheers J
Great work and I'm glad your faith works for you. I'd be happier if you didn't try to "save me" in the same way that I won't try to convince you that your faith is just a lot of superstition and coincidences.
I understand because I used to think like that too until I considered the 'coincidences'. The fact that Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies with just one being nearly impossible to fabricate is one in a billion and considering it's been 2000 years since and many many people still claim Jesus is working and doing things in their lives today suggests a mere coincidence is off the table. I just want you to consider that maybe it's worth looking into before it's too late. I think you would want concrete evidence to support your claim that there is no God. Praying for you whether you like it or not. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle See, the problem isn't being canceled. The problem is when you start preaching, you offend a large part of your audience. I respect your faith and wish you the best for it, but hearing about it continuously, framed as your wanting to "save" anyone is instantly exhausting. You do you, and if that's what you want your channel to become, all power to you. I'm sure there's an audience for that, but I'm not part of it. That you might put a psalm on your chair? Fine. Telling me that you're going to save me, and belabor it in the comments? Hard pass. You see what you see. You believe what you believe. That it makes your life richer and more complete is wonderful. The central problem with religion starts when you think your point of view is superior to someone else's, and it's your job to shove it down someone else's throat. I can assure you that I, and others like me, are perfectly happy with our current state. Yet we have been grated on for our entire lives by people who think we're less because we're not followers of your flavor of religiosity, and that's a red flag that isn't ignored. You are correct. There is no proof of anything regarding faith. If all the information regarding science and religion books were removed from everyone and everything today, in 200 years the science books would say the same things, the religious ones would be completely different. G'day, I am looking at getting a laser cutter to cut airfoil ribs and misc. parts for Radio controlled gliders. All I need to do is cut 3mm balsa and 3mm 3 ply plywood. I see you have tested lots of different cutter/engravers, what would you recommend ??
24:35 is it on par though? Because being a diode laser it cannot cut light-coloured transparent acrylic sheet. That is one of the key reasons why people buy a CO2 laser vs a diode laser.
The wave lengths do affect different materials, as you know a diode version can mark stainless and mild steel easily and can engrave and cut opaque acrylic. Its dependent on what products you're making. The diode 60w certainly beats a 50w CO2 which is a common type. However I'm yet to test out my P2 55w to compare. Cheers J
I have access to a 100W Co2 laser but it's a bit off a faff but very good and accurate. These days I only really need to cut smaller items. Will the Falcon 2 cut say 18mm plywood, MDF, and acrylics cleanly? Would you recommend it and does it require any air or chiller upgrades?
@@jagohazzzard hi. 18mm is very thick but the 60w will do it on plywood that is suitable for laser cutting. Not all plywood types work depending on the type of glue they used. It won't do MDF very well from my experience and only opaque acrylics, nothing clear. I've cut 50 mm thick black acrylic before on the 40w version. The best thing about diode lasers is they're simple, light and don't require any additional cooling just an air assist. I use a compressor flow regulator. Cheers J
@@Nduk123 I think 18mm thick is your limit for high quality. You can go thicker but you risk burning, than less you do many passes at a fast speed. Lasers are more precise convenient, and have greater detail than a CNC router and you don't need to clamp down the material and there's very little waste debre. However a CNC router is faster in many applications and can cut deeper. Cheers J
No, you wont get canceled. You are expressing your faith in very respectful manner. And don't believe snowflakes, cry wolfs, who expressed their faith in a clumsy, disrespectful or stupid way and got some backlash for it.
I had the 40 Watt Falcon 2, it cut better using the Laser GRBL, like it would cut through 6mm MDF in 2 passes whereas if I used Lightburn with the exact same settings it would require about 5 passes. Why?
Diameter of Laser Beam will have a significant effect, 60 W with a 0.6mm beam diameter means you are getting 212 Watts per square mm, if we look at a 20W laser with a 0.06mm beam diameter (as claimed by Neje) you get a massive 7073 Watts per square mm but this is not the only factor, the basw wattage of the laser controls how fast you get heat transfer so if you could get the same size beam on a 60W laser it would be up at 21,219 Watts per square mm or 100 times the energy per square mm, so you are looking at optics, most diode lasers use a prism to focus all of the diodes to a single point not fibre optics, you get a small amount of energy loss in the prism, thus whilst the diodes produce 5.5W optical output you loose about 0.5W per diode as it passes through the prism and focussing lens, so in theory you can get more power from a diode laser IF you can improve the Prism and focussing Lens to get a smaller beam diameter, however getting improved prisms may not be cost effective, there are significant price jumps between 4, 8 and 12 diode lasers and this is down to the cost of the ever more complicated prisms. (I've shown the calculations for a perfect circular straight sided beam, the reality is that the beam will not be perfectly circular and is more likely to look like a tiny rectangle with rounded off corners that forms a slightly hourglass shaped beam but the principles are correct, the tighter the beam diameter for the same optical power the more efficient it will be at cutting) As for cutting, in theory you should run at 90% of full power to prolong the life of the LED's and cut as quickly as possible with the best airflow (speed and volume) as you can, only reducing output power if you can get full depth cuts at maximum speed and 90% power, but you may find max speed causes other issues so need to lower this, this reduces the excess burning you get around cuts through deeper material, also ideally you want to extract the smoke from below, this helps prevent the lens getting coated in soot and other stickier materials. You should where possible change the height of the laser where you need to do multiple passes, these diode lasers do not have a perfect parallel sided beam, thus if you cut thick materials without altering the height above the material you will be concentrating most of the energy of the laser at a set height within the material which will result in significant charring and may cause fires as you see in your video cutting the thick MDF For engraving slightly defocussing the beam may give better results with a more even mark.
@@benjaminjensen111 40w non pro is better value for money in my opinion. Does what you want it to. You're not getting much better with the 60w. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle got it. 40 w non pro is the sweetspot. Thanks. 60 w is proably overkill coming to diode laser bc it will just cut with thicker "blade" /larger area (600 microns vs 400) and be less precise and maybe set things on fire. Just need the tent for the fumes I guess if in apartment :-)

Regarding the camera, you don't need the optic positioned higher - the lens correction must be done in software with a few lines of code for a calibration function. I've done this dozend of times for machinevision projects and it's just basic math. So it's just laziness or stupidity of Creality

@@johnduch2815I don't think that's the case necessarily. With CO2 lasers, which will potentially cut aluminium, the material is highly reflective to the beam.
@@johnduch2815 Nope because Aluminium is very good at heat transmission (like copper and brass) this means that there is just not enough concentrated heat to melt through, steel has a higher melting point than aluminium but it's a much poorer conductor of heat which is why you can cut thin steel with a diode laser but not thin aluminium

With out a cross hair, I question how you can use one for precision work. I fitted one using you previous video and it's essential. I find the edge burning of wood difficult to accept.
Thank you very much, not only for the review, but also for the link to the software to generate gears,
I'm an atheist, but I still enjoy your videos.

I work at an advanced manufacturing facility run by NJIT. In our fleet of awesome equipment we have a Phillips hybrid. It combines a HAAS UMC750 with a Meltio metal additive system.

Cheers J
Exactly - depends on materials. Its ‘on par’ in a like for like scenario but as a product it’s not a direct ‘on-par’ replacement.
Cheers J
How deep can it cut? would it be any use for woodworking projects on thicker wood?
@@Nduk123 I think 18mm thick is your limit for high quality. You can go thicker but you risk burning, than less you do many passes at a fast speed. Lasers are more precise convenient, and have greater detail than a CNC router and you don't need to clamp down the material and there's very little waste debre. However a CNC router is faster in many applications and can cut deeper. Cheers J

I had the 40 Watt Falcon 2, it cut better using the Laser GRBL, like it would cut through 6mm MDF in 2 passes whereas if I used Lightburn with the exact same settings it would require about 5 passes. Why?
@@inkavanderbijl7504 that's very strange... There must be a setting that was different somehow.

(I've shown the calculations for a perfect circular straight sided beam, the reality is that the beam will not be perfectly circular and is more likely to look like a tiny rectangle with rounded off corners that forms a slightly hourglass shaped beam but the principles are correct, the tighter the beam diameter for the same optical power the more efficient it will be at cutting)
As for cutting, in theory you should run at 90% of full power to prolong the life of the LED's and cut as quickly as possible with the best airflow (speed and volume) as you can, only reducing output power if you can get full depth cuts at maximum speed and 90% power, but you may find max speed causes other issues so need to lower this, this reduces the excess burning you get around cuts through deeper material, also ideally you want to extract the smoke from below, this helps prevent the lens getting coated in soot and other stickier materials.
You should where possible change the height of the laser where you need to do multiple passes, these diode lasers do not have a perfect parallel sided beam, thus if you cut thick materials without altering the height above the material you will be concentrating most of the energy of the laser at a set height within the material which will result in significant charring and may cause fires as you see in your video cutting the thick MDF
For engraving slightly defocussing the beam may give better results with a more even mark.
Please some pros and cons choosing the 60w model vs choosing the 40w model
@@benjaminjensen111 40w non pro is better value for money in my opinion. Does what you want it to. You're not getting much better with the 60w. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle got it. 40 w non pro is the sweetspot. Thanks. 60 w is proably overkill coming to diode laser bc it will just cut with thicker "blade" /larger area (600 microns vs 400) and be less precise and maybe set things on fire.
Just need the tent for the fumes I guess if in apartment :-)
so to be ablet to cut and engrave on bigger items like a kitchen cabinet doors, then choose the non-pro 40 W?
@@benjaminjensen111 correct. Cheers J
You can cut that thick material blowing pure nitrogen instead of air. Air causes fire and nitrogen suppresses it.

😂 I love how much you qualified the raffle entry, with the whole Mr Beast scandal going on
@@petermarin lol. It still has people suspicious but it is all legit and above board. At least Raffall insists it is completely legal and is monitored by the UK gambling commission. The idea is that it's a competition hosted by Raffall in the UK and they legally sell the back the items to the winners and so it is acceptable under US gambling law. The Royal family use it too so if they can use it then I guess I can. Not that the Royals aren't into scandals.... 🤷 I'm not for gambling of most kinds but a raffle to me is acceptable. Cheers J
Regarding the camera, you don't need the optic positioned higher - the lens correction must be done in software with a few lines of code for a calibration function.
I've done this dozend of times for machinevision projects and it's just basic math.
So it's just laziness or stupidity of Creality
Agreed, they know all the factors, the lens, aperture, distance etc, not doing the unwrapping seems lazy.

With MDF wasn't the problem with focus lenght? it was thicker and when cutted some it is not optimal anymore?

Any worry the aluminum plate will reflect laser power back at the optics?
@@c.johnstonblacksmith I don't think so. It's very matt in the finish and quickly gets covered with tar and soot. Cheers J
if it will cut it, then it will not reflect
@@johnduch2815I don't think that's the case necessarily. With CO2 lasers, which will potentially cut aluminium, the material is highly reflective to the beam.
@@johnduch2815 Nope because Aluminium is very good at heat transmission (like copper and brass) this means that there is just not enough concentrated heat to melt through, steel has a higher melting point than aluminium but it's a much poorer conductor of heat which is why you can cut thin steel with a diode laser but not thin aluminium
@@davidorf3921 my reply was to put it as simply as possible, but i need to add a line for everyone the addition is" if it reflects it, it will not cut it. do you understand my comment now? or do i have to get into physics 101 and send you a bill for the lesson.
