- I just want to give you an update on the Fujifilm XH2s. It's been the camera that I've been using the most for my video needs! But I have some of you guys asking me whether or not this was a great decision selling my sony a7siii for this camera. I enjoyed the Fujifilm XH2s over the past 8 months, it's been my go to camera, and I'm loving the image quality coming from both video and photos. In this video thought I'd do something different, share footages shot on the Fujifilm XH2s and you guy see for yourself how great this camera is!

I bought this Camera in January to get into filmmaking. I learned so fast and had so much fun and excitement with this camera, the workflow I developed is crazy. Because APSC lenses are so much cheaper, I also got good primes. Now I'm already doing freelance work for big clients, which wasn't even planned. Of course, this is mainly due to my interest in videography and editing, but the experience I've had with this beast has certainly helped me develop. Ignore the fools who say you need a full frame - (for photography-only use you should probably get a full frame system), but for video the X-H2s is king under 5k price Range!

Great work bro. Always appreciate and nice to see videos like this that actually include LOTS of captured footage/pictures instead of just people talking like 95% of the time with 5% being the example recorded content.

Looking at your footage, I see zero reason to miss the Sony. Very organic. Personally, I’m finding grading and exposing the XH2S challenging. Would love to hear your thoughts on exposure. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by Canon and Red. That said, I know the Fujifilm is capable of capturing stunning footage. But like most things, it takes time to master.

Honestly, I've been watching Joshua's youtube channel aka CINEDAILIES where he talks about exposing for flog2... And if i recall correctly...he said it's best to expose flog-2 around 0 to 1.3 EV. So that's what I've been doing.
And color grading is a different story , im not a filmmaker or anything like that so i can care less about grades. So I find it super helpful that I have Dehancer to help make the FLOG2 footage look good. It's really been a 2-3 click solution for me. I jsut want a quick turnaround time. I don't need a fancy grade...

I have to do both photography and video shooting with a single camera. I am torn between Sony A7 IV and XH2S. Are you satisfied with the XH2S? Would you recommend it?
@@michaelcorle0ne If you lean one or more towards either direction, the Sony is better at photo due to 33mp, and the XH2s is better at video while still being good at photo.
To each their own, I dont use either camera anymore and I own the S5II.

I love mine!! I'm so grateful to have this camera. I actually won this camera at an event Fujifilm held in LA last summer for World Photography Day. It's truly a gift I'll keep for always. Everything I've created so far with camera has been just wonderful. It does no wrong.

I don't know if it's just my impression, but I noticed that by turning off the Boost mode, the IBIS performs much better and has less of those nervous jerks.

If I'm correct, the boost mode on Fujifilm camera is supposed to be used for static shot, so it's quite logical that it fight more any movements.
Boost mode or not, I'm disappointed to hear that it's still hard to make a slow and smooth pan with ibis... It was already like that on the xt4.. I wish they'd fix that ok the new generation.. I'm sure they could improve it with a firmware update.

Thanks for your insight. I am looking hard at the Fuji XH2s and Fuji H2 to replace my Sonys. I already have the Fuji GFX 50sii which I love. I am a huge fan of Fuji's color science.
The fuji color is awesome! I love the gfx line as well that depth of field on the gfx is something special
Between normal price cameras Fuji have the best color science! Second is Nikon. Hasselblad is the very best but too much pricier

Thanks for the follow up on the XH2S, I agree with everything you pointed here..we still need improvements from Fuji on this camera, or else...we're all switching to............... 😂 I've switched from XH2 to XH2S and used it for a hybrid project last week... love the photos from this camera (or from any Fuji camera for that matter) but I did had some struggles with the video, mainly autofocus tracking of faces when there are lots in the shot...coming from Sony FX3 where it would stick to one face/object when tracking through the frame.. then the stupid button restrictions while recording, no red box recording around the frame (actually I missed a few shots, again, I was used to Sony's "idiot-proof" lighting festival when pressing the record button - 😅), 180 degree shutter (so disappointed not to see this in the latest firmware 3.0)...etc But as you pointed/demanding hopefully Fuji will continue to improve this camera with every firmware update! Or else... thanks again for all the work you put on this channel!!!

I switched from Sony A7iii to Fuji xh2s, the only thing I really really hate is the Ibis warping, buuuut I feel like it's gotten fixed after I updated the lens, so might be a non issue!
Other than that I really really love it, nobody does color better than fuji, and being able to switch from Astia and Provia and Classic chrome in lightroom on the raw images is so nice, and I feel like it has that filming Video look to it, simulare to blackmagic, while also being a great photo camera,
and 3:2 open gate for cropping.....
Ya that warping was worst before!!! It looks more natural now.. but it still fights with me from time to time. But it has improved..

@@Iamtongue I have a FX3 + FX6 (I had before a Pocket 6K Pro + C100mark II + R6) and I'd like to sell all my Sony gear because I really never enjoyed filming with it (I miss my Pocket 6k Pro so much!). I was thinking about this camera maybe (xh2s), but I don't know, I'm not sure it will be as good as my Blackmagic that I loved. I'm a photographer (and love to shoot film) & also a filmmaker (sports events, music videos, documentary & commercials,...) so this why this camera interested me. I also tried the Komodo X for a music video and really felt in love with it but I'm not sure I wanna spend 15k right now 😅 (+ the money to buy a camera for photos). So I was thinking about this camera (XH2s) that I would use for run"n gun projects & also for photography + the Pocket 6k Full frame (because I love it, it reminds me a little bit the Arri Amira that I used for one big event).
Choosing the right camera that suit all our needs is not that easy haha😆
@@JeanSebastienLEGER I agree! The fx3 and the fx6 looks great though. The only issue I have with the xh2s and the XF lenses are they aren’t made for video cameras so the autofocusing for rack pulls will not look as natural as some Sony stuff. But other than that it’s awesome, the image quality you get is great 😊 if you can find one for a great deal I think it’s worth it.
I am still on the fence on getting this. I have been shooting with various bodies from Panasonic. Recently bought (and sold) and bought a X-S20 to take some baby steps into the Fujifilm ecosystem, really liking it so far. But, still hesitant to completly ditch the L-mount system and invest into a X-H2S A cam and then the X-S20 as a B.
Ya I would suggest you play with the xs20 since it’s like 90% XH2s and if you like what the ecosystem has to offer check out the xh2s

Great Review. IBIS is a downer. I feel Canon has pioneered that art so well that handheld footage too looks pretty awesome without any shakes in it. One favor to ask. I haven't seen a good workflow video of XH2s. a video on that would be highly appreciated. wanted to see how raw footage looks, how the log footage is then converted to rec 709 onwards to little bit of color grading etc. thnx (liked and subscribed)

Is that a Tommy Bahama or Reyn Spooner aloha shirt from hawaii? XD Also 4.0 firmware now adds that cloud support if you have the grip. Phillip Bloom likes using Topaz Video AI on cleaning up noise, have you tried that software too? I'm hoping that they add more AF tweaking on 4.1+ firmware.
I havent tried topaz video yet... Da vinci resolve's desnoiser does the job. Is the topaz good?? And the shirt is from Target, I think i bought it in Kailua haha
Geat video man, can you tell if it's a good camera for photography? I make a lot of videos, but but clients also ask me for photography services, so for now I have XT-4 and XT-3, but I'm interested in how the H-2s behaves in low light situations?

Yaa the s5iix looks amazing if you want more codecs. I’ve been satisfied with that the s5ii has to offer though.

Good morning! I have a question regarding about my camera, I just recently bought an Xh2s, when I try shooting in M mode, it produces 3 photos instead of 1. Do anyone knows how to change this? Thank you!
You got to change your shot to single shot, I believe it’s in HDR mode right now where they take 3 shots. Or in burst.

Missing the point on high MPX: One thing is print - which probably nobody does.
The important thing about Megapixel is: CROP!
When I am on a event I shoot fotos and some days later I get the / or other idea about each shot. So I crop. Imho most fotos get a good look after cropping.

I guess it’ll be available soon in a firmware update, but it’s been long imo.
Interested in that camera very much, yet confused bcz Fujifilm lenses are more photography oriented than video. But it looks like a tool that encourages creativity.

Would love to grab great photos in camera and video in camera but be travel ready and small enough with lens to travel and pack light in a shoulder strap bag. Does this fit the bill?
Yup I think so.. if you’re coming from full frame.. but if you’re coming from a smaller Apsc camera maybe not..
@@Iamtongue so I’m reading that this is larger than the a7iv. That’s way too big for travel in my view so I returned it. How’s the xt5 for autofocus and video image in camera ? Worth it for travel or is the a7C better? I just want great in camera images and autofocus accuracy. Love the Fuji emulations though

You did not talk about the Low light which is may peoples reason for jumping to Sony or staying with sony also DOF ?
I haven’t used this in low light so I can’t comment on it. Just know it’s not like the Sony a7siii with the duo native iso where the footage is clean again at iso12,800

no no mistake... I have a friend who get it... overheats too quickly, buttons impossible to customize, only one card slot, but overheating is the real problem

I just upgraded from XT3 to sony A7SIII and I returned it after 5 days to order XH2S
I wanted this camera from the moment it got announced 2020 , After I saw every review , and I mean it! Every f**** review of it , Finally after 4 years I ordered it and I regret it.
Here is what no youtuber will tell you about this camera :
1.I wanted A7SIII for the viewfinder because on my XT3 I use it very often. Let me tell you this , The EVF on the XT3/XT4 is way better than sonys a7s3. EVF on sony is pixelated , if you turn the brightness of it all the way up There is a green TINT in the image, Everything looks greener , also can’t be fixed with evf colour temperature, look way worse. NOT USABLE (either is very dim or the image has a green tint)
2.Screen , again it look way worse, colors are not what the camera is recording, Aspect ratio of it makes your image smaller. It is bigger on the XT3 to look at and for my eye, sharper.
3.Autowhite balance. I use awb lock on my fuji , I lock it , turn off-on the camera - It is still locked. On sony it resets everytime, even if the camera goes to sleep.
4.My biggest ISSUE with the sony. I understand SLOG3 has the best dynamic range but oh my god , in every other profile on this camera the dynamic range is disgusting. I dont always want to shoot slog3, sometimes I run and gun and I want a nice image. On my XT3 in everyfilm simulation with DR400 the highlights are very well preserved. On sony if you’re not in SLOG3 the image is not usable. Every highlight in your shot is burned.
5.Colours - The colours are digusting , Same whitebalance on both , same lighting , Standard pp on both , Skintones have green tine/blue tint in them , image is flat and boring.
6.Memory recall is useless , can’t do custom wb , if you lock it with awb lock and turn off the camera, it resets
7.Big lenses = camera very heavy
8.Expensive lenses.
9.12mpx , I thought I dont need more but yes I do.
10.Video gallery on sony is ugly(You can change it but once you look at a picture it goes back to the ugly pixelated thumbnail)
11.Video quality - Everyone says that sony a7s3 is sharp. Trust me it isnt. the 4k coming out of the sony is soft and very digital. My XT3 has better 4k quality.
12: Second base iso 1600 - 2000 - 12800 , Image is very SOFT. It is denoising , not dual gain. I prefer fuji noise better than a7s3 clean soft image. Also slog3 12800 iso exposed 1.7 stops over when applying the conversion lut the image brightness looks like 6400 iso brightness .
I dont say it is a bad camera. It has ok *ish quality , 120fps 4k , ibis , 10bit . It is a camera for a colourist , for controled lighting situation, but for run-gun fast projects NO.

I'd like to sell my Sony a7 iv and two GM lens for fuji H2s and 23mm 1.4... what do you think after 1 year with fuji?
You are getting a less reliable autofocus system with the Fujifilm XH2s. I mean it still nail shots but not at the success rate of the sony A7iv. But saying that you will be met with beautiful looking videos and gorgeous photos.
@@Iamtongue I can live with a "normal autofocus".. for years I used only manual with Panasonic GH.. a curiosity.. H2s in comparison with S5 ii ? I saw that at the end you prefer using H2s.. or I'm wrong?
@@Iamtongue the only thing that I really like on a7iv is the crop mode .. it is really useful when you use a fixed lens .. but otherwise.. on Fuji h2s doesn’t exist the clear zoom like the H2 .. right? Thank you!!!
Ya i prefer the XH2s over the S5ii. Both do similar things, but the 4k60 is not cropepd on the xh2s, and you also get the 4k120 and I prefer the video footage on that over the s5ii. THe s5ii has way better robust video features and probably a better autofocusing system as well. But I wasn't a big fan of it's clean looking videos. Somethign abotu the XH2s is so nice and pleasant.
@@fridadeivizsla2729 no it doesn’t have those crop modes on the XH2s. The xh2 has a digital zoom cuz of its 8k sensor but that’s about it.
Man, I feel like none of the stuff we want to see fixed/improved will get updated. This camera has been out for so long by now, and proper updates are pretty scarce.
I mean it’s not even a year yet and they gave us firmware 4.0 albeit not the stuff we want… but we got stuff😂😂😂 look at the sony a7siii that shit never gets updated lol
@@Iamtongue Yeah, but that's kinda the point, big numbers but barely anything subsential. A lot of the stuff, like being able to quickly and easily change the subject detection, or switch between person's or eyes, should be pretty simple and straight forward. Just doesn't seem like they're even thinking about it. Autofocus also is still far from perfect, especially af-c in high burst produces way too many images that are out of focus for no apparent reason.

6.2k better than 8k. 4k60 no crop. And 26 megapixel better for me. I have xt5 as well so no need for xh2.
