    Say what you will about Steelheart, judging from the location artwork, you really have to admire the guy's attention to detail. In the midst of subjugating the city, fighting off rival epics, hunting reckoners, and heaven knows what else, he still found time to carve his name on the front of the Field Museum and to have a new sign made for the (renamed) Newcago Theatre. Having the new sign done in the iconic style of the original was a nice touch, and it really is nice to know that the city's new overlord is a patron of the arts. A lot of superpowered, homicidal maniacs would have let those little things slide, but not Steelheart, and that's what makes the difference between a High Epic and the regular kind!

    • @WatchItPlayed

  • @dregarironfaith3603
    @dregarironfaith3603 6 лет назад +1

    So to clarify for the dice rolling and placing in rows - the only real reason for that is that it provides 2 Errol’s of dice you don’t want to keep and after the 3rd roll you are forced to keep what is left? The actual row mechanic doesn’t have any other bearing on the game? Did I interpret that right?

    • @dregarironfaith3603
      @dregarironfaith3603 6 лет назад

      Errol’s. I meant re-rolls. :)

    • @sethvanorden1
      @sethvanorden1 6 лет назад

      You are corrent that the column doesn't matter, but it is very helpful when playing with others. Because you don't have to keep pace, you can easily see what roll the other players are on, by the number of rows with dice in them.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  6 лет назад

      It's important to remember that once you've chosen to keep a die and placed it into a row, you can't go back and roll it again. So the rows are a reminder of that as well.

    Game looks fun and I'm a fan of Brandon Sanderson. However, the price point scares me. I'm not sure if there is 100 dollars worth of game there.

    • @MrSelkies
      @MrSelkies 6 лет назад

      That's exactly how I feel. My wife and I are huuuuge Brandon Sanderson nerds and love board games and this game does look fun, but $100? It's Co-op King of Tokyo. $100????

    • @hoodaguy
      @hoodaguy 6 лет назад +2

      That's not really a fair comparison. King of Tokyo is a very light gateway game that has much less going on than this game does. Also components aren't free, either. With the miniatures, a lot more dice, and especially all the GameTrayz (which a lot of gamers buy to upgrade their games and keep them organized a lot better) it's not really that unreasonable to expect a higher cost.

    • @nightmaregiraffe2671
      @nightmaregiraffe2671 6 лет назад +1

      I agree that it's not a fair comparison. I also agree that components cost money. However, I think it was a mistake to make THIS particular game have an entry point of 100 dollars. I don't think the gameplay warrants it. It feels like something that should have settled between 30 and 40 dollars. CMON just produce Cthulu Death May Die with wayyyy more value than this game supplies at 100 dollars on kickstarter. The IP here isn't as well known either. GameTrayz may be great, but now you've decided up front that everyone needs them. I personally want to get this game as a fan of the source material and feel bad that it's going to cut out some of the core audience who won't be able to come off 100 dollars for this.

    • @nightmaregiraffe2671
      @nightmaregiraffe2671 6 лет назад +3

      I wanted to add some positive comment here to feel better about some of the negativity. I do think the game looks good and it's nice that the production quality appears to be strong. Also, this is another great, clear, concise video from Rodney. I consider him the best source for learning to play games and I've supported this channel since I discovered it.

    • @TakedaYuuki-8SFL
      @TakedaYuuki-8SFL 6 лет назад

    I played this for the first time yesterday and there’s just one rule text I don’t understand. On page 21 there are examples of Ability/Equipment cards. One involves cards such as Bank Vault, Bribe, Checkmate…. It’s where you can use a certain die symbol to activate the card and get 3 symbols in return. The part I’m confused about is that it can “alternatively be used to Move or Remove a Barricade.” I’m not sure I’m understanding it right because this doesn’t make sense to me. Why would I spend a die that could be used to Move or Remove a Barricade to activate a card that just gives me the same option? Am I missing something?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  Год назад +1

      I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!

      You mentioned that on the Epix power track that if it tries to go farther to the right then it’s possible it just activates the symbol to the right the number of times it would have moved. What I want to know is does anything happen when you try to move it farther left, in the weakening direction, than is possible. There appears to be a blue star to the left of it, but that may be just for decoration or something

      What do you mean by "where to place the players"? Do you mean, where people are meant to sit at the table? If so, you sit however is convenient for you (there no rules about where players sit at the table). If you mean to ask where are the characters are placed - that is mentioned in the video (but it's something that happens during the Prologue step, not during the setup) - so it is mentioned in the Prologue step of the rule book and this video. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding the question. I hope that helps.

      @@WatchItPlayed yeah I meant where the players characters are placed during setup, not the actual players themselves. Sorry for the confusion.

    Game seems interesting. I find production somewhat off-putting though, the black plastic 'inserts' everywhere. I would have preferred indented/layered and illustrated cardboard.

    Certainly gives board games that tactile difference! Pity the dice look painted - I only buy games with etched dice.

      That’s a very specific requirement :) Either way, thanks for checking out the video!

      Watch It Played If the game has dice, there's only one correct way to do them (^_-)

      They're likely heat pressed, a new technology made popular by Star Wars Destiny. Check it out- honestly it's much better than etching, imo!

      Ben Anderson it's not exactly new technology
