    First episode, first episode I've seen where noted issues were not taken care of. Spray foam insulation under the new roof, legend of the same roof. Venting of the shed roof in the back. Attic access & assessment. Plus the shingles at the peak of the roof looked like they needed replacement too.???🤔

    I have to wonder if anyone ever added Attic Access to that first property.

    Never ever use the inspector any real estate agent recommendeds. You want an inspector that real estate agents call "deal killers". They hate us. Homebuyers love us.

    • @LaurieAnnOR
      @LaurieAnnOR 4 месяца назад +1

      That is nearly impossible. Home inspectors rely on referrals from realtors. I’d love the way to find one of those inspectors.
      For some of these homes clearly the inspectors missed substantially expensive and evident issues.
      People are required to disclose these issues. I don’t believe any of these sellers are/were ignorant to the flooding and other structural issues corrected in this show.
      A person can’t live in a place and miss all the flooding, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and structural problems.
      When I’ve hired contractors. The ones that don’t make it to the job are those that tell me permits are not needed.

    they were constantly amazed as time went on about how big the gift was..including how warm it was in the winter.

    I have to say ep 109 is the first one of these I've seen where I was underwhelmed by the final result. The patch in the siding should have instead been two full board replacements. The foundation wall looks rough and unfinished in the basement. The padding on the floor seemed lazy -- those things are awful dust collectors and it's really hard to clean underneath -- why not sand and paint? And losing the basement access would be a huge blow! (Holmes also mentions more than once in the final that he's hot, so I have to wonder if the AC isn't working or isn't' sufficient as well).

    I suspect that inspectors have an incentive to gloss over problems when they can. After all, the sales agent won't recommend them for the inspection if they don't help make sure the sale goes through, and without those recommendations they get less work, make less money, etc. If an inspector is tough and too many sales fall through, those real estate agents will simply not use that inspector any more. Unfortunately, the person who actually pays them is not who they feel they really work for.

      Brit here. The Inspectors should be independent, like a lawyer. Have their own Nation Register to show qualifications and experience and customer comments.

    • @bryan__m
      @bryan__m 2 месяца назад

      @@johnchristmas7522 they _are_ independent and there are various certifications and qualifications. My realtor also had an electrician, plumber, and roofer recommendation (which saved me bundles of time and money when the person buying our home wanted things fixed before closing). They were also independent and credentialed; they just have a working relationship with the realtor.

    To say they did the right thing by getting an inspection is good, like Mike says not everybody knows the proper construction of a home. Most people listen to friends or family who aren't a liecence contractor either so they think their realtor is helping them out with theirs. Realtor s have no idea wither or not their inspector is any good at it. that's not their job to.
    What mike is trying to teach ppl is simple: you the potential buyer should really look at things do research first. I AM NOT a liecenced any thing, but Over years I have seen and heard things about wrong ways and better ways of building a home.
    Bring a screw driver w u at a showing of a house, poke the floor joists by the outside walls, if it pushes in easy,or looks real wet ,dark it's rotten.
    Ppl don't be awed by the finishes and decor, really look !

    The one homeowner is worried about how things look instead of what Mike Holmes does which is fix it so it functions properly ,I say if he's not grateful for the work Mike and his crew does they should move on to doing something else to help someone who is happy for what ever they can do for them. Ungrateful homeowners 😢. They were hoping Mike would move the kitchen and put in a new bathroom for free.😂

      He is emphasising the owners did nothing wrong because there are always people who try to victim blame.
      When making any kind of media you need to assume there are people who are watching for the first time, regardless of how many episodes you make.

    • @stillraven9415
      @stillraven9415 8 месяцев назад

      @Cheepchipsable it's not that he repeats it for the first time people that I'm talking about. It that if they did "the right thing" then why is it always no help. The right thing would have given them good advice.

    • @chrisjohnson7929
      @chrisjohnson7929 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@stillraven9415 Because it would be a boring show if he made it about the cases where they had their inspection and the inspector didn't miss anything. There are good and bad inspectors out there and for entertainment and educational purposes he seeks out the times where the homeowner did the right steps, but found the wrong person for the job.

    • @ChristianWagner888
      @ChristianWagner888 8 месяцев назад

      @@stillraven9415 those people that used an independent home inspector that is thorough do not make it unto the show, as they either don't buy such a house or they calculate the cost of remediation beforehand.
      Even if a majority of home inspectors are conscientious, enough people get misled by home inspectors that basically work for the real estate agent.
      Getting a home inspector is still the right move, but he must be truly independent and competent in all the relevant trades.

    • @bryan__m

      That opens Holmes up to a lot of liability. Proving someone missed something is easy, but missing something isn't criminal. Proving they falsified something is much, much harder, and if you make wrong accusations, especially on national TV, _you_ are the one breaking the law.
