Rikki Chadwick, Emma Gilbert, and Cleo Sertori are three teenage Australian girls who find themselves stranded on the mysterious Mako Island, where they end up in a pool under a dormant volcano just as a full moon passes above them, bathing the pool in light. The girls are rescued and brought back to shore, where they return to their normal lives, until discovering their lives have become anything but normal. The girls find out that ten seconds after coming into contact with water they transform into mermaids. After further experimentation, the girls also discover they have supernatural powers over water.

As soon as I heard the dang theme song I instantly remembered every single word and got up and danced around in front of my mom :’) Goodness they made me want to be a mermaid so freaking bad when I was younger (and still today as a 21 year old i’ll be honest loll) but this show was my everything. I even taught myself how to swim like a mermaid just like them, but now it’s literally the only way I know how to swim so I dunno if that’s good or not but oh well sksks. I'm 22 and I'm not going to judge myself for watching this at any age. I see this show as an art. Jonathan Shiff and the crew have been creating this masterpiece with such love and passion for that. And I'm really thankful for their sense of beauty and aesthetic.
It needs a huge talent and imagination to film like that. Those tails, moon pool, Mako, underwater scenes, music, the mermaids theory and actually every screen view are aesthetically gorgeous.
