Laser Iridotomy for Glaucoma | Yag Laser Pi (Peripheral Iridotomy)

Dr. Amrita Kapoor from Synergy Eye Care explains about YAG Peripheral Iridotomy and it’s procedure.
The YAG Laser Peripheral Iridotomy is performed for patients with narrow angles or acute angle closure glaucoma. It involves creating a tiny opening in the peripheral Iris, allowing the aqueous fluid to flow from behind the Iris directly to the anterior chamber of the eye. This creates an opening in the anterior chamber, opening up the angle of the eye.
To do this procedure first, an Anaesthetic drop will be applied. You will have to sit in front of the slit lamp with your chin on a chin wrist and your forehead against the bar. The doctor will apply a contact lens to your eye and focus on the crypts in the peripheral Iris. Laser shots will be delivered to create a hole in the peripheral Iris to allow aqueous flow to flow through.
The procedure only takes about five minutes. The side effects after Yag Laser Peripheral Iridotomy are mild, uncommon and shortlived. The patient might have redness, light sensitivity and discomfort for a few days after the procedure. There might be a short-lived increase in eye pressure, temporary blurred vision and temporary inflammation. It's a very safe, effective procedure in patients who require it.
