HEY GUYS!!! I have had so much friggin' fun making this video for you all, and I'm SO STOKED to finally share it with you!! I want to thank you all for your patience with me as I continue to get better and work on upping my video quality. I know that I've been taking longer to make videos, and it's because I'm working on making them better, and there's absolutely a learning curve there. I really have been enjoying the process though - of it all from filming to writing scripts and especially the editing. It's all a creative outlet that I never even knew I wanted! So thanks and I hope you enjoy the video! :D Also, MASSIVE shoutout to Jordan Boostmaster for coming out to ride and show me around. I highly recommend checking out his channel here: ruclips.net/user/JordanBoostmaster So how about it? Would you try your hand at riding some of The North Shore's most notorious features?
Thanks so much for the quality videos, so many youtubers go the opposite direction and start getting lazy with vid making once they have tons of subs, I appreciate your work! And nope, I'd be too sketched out to try any of these features haha
Thanks man, I really appreciate this and genuinely am enjoying learning how to create better video. I find it so fun, creative, challenging, and rewarding, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon!
Those hits, music, VO, so good! The North Shore is a dream vacation for me, some times I need to scare the shit out of myself and walk a lot, haha and give those 26" wheels a workout. Watching your progression riding, shooting, story telling and editing is awesome & inspiring! As much as miss some riding videos, its more than worth the wait, and your turn around time will only get better!
Dr. Seuss book about skinnies: Some skinnies are short Some are reeeeaaaal long Some go up Some go down Some go all around There are super skinny skinnies And big ol fat skinnies Skinnies on the ground Skinnies in trees Skinnies all around
I never realized how lucky I was when in the mid-90s, my first exposure to mountain biking was on the North Shore, following local legends Fred Barber and his brother John.
Yooo thanks Arthur! I feel like those features film pretty well, but you can absolutely see the Gopro effect take place on the Boogieman rock section at the end!
My first ever skinny dislocated my shoulder 2 miles into the trail. Popped back into place, rode 2 more pro trails, went out for Chinese buffet and then laid on a couch for the next week, unable to move. Now I can tell you it's about to rain like an hour before it rains.
Hey Alex! Great to meet you today at the Bellingham pump track down by the waterfront. Great sunset! Great to see you out there just rolling with us normies!! Boomer dad here!
I don't even ride mountain bikes and this made feel like I wanna get out there so bad and get a bike and just ride in the woods with my friends. Great video and what a great place! Subscribed!
Thanks for showing the joys of biking. Even in my mid 40's I too still get that rush of freedom I had as a kid exploring the miles of country roads and creeks. Unfortunately the trappings of responsibility and needing my physical body to be able to perform in order to provide for my family limits the amount of acceptable risk I can selfishly take. Keep up the exploration of awesome riding.
Yep, I'm in my mid-forties too. I just rediscovered mountain biking after about a 25 year hiatus. How things have changed! It has become an activity that allows me to bond with my kids, especially my son, who has a ridiculous amount of talent and determination. It's so nice to live in the PNW with all the great trails available. Limiting progression to something reasonable is probably going to be one of my biggest challenges. I work construction, so having physical ability after the weekend is critical.
Man can I just say you perfectly represented what every rider goes through. People only so the edited good videos and not much of the struggles of being a mtb rider! Thanks for videos!
Some say these skinnies were not built, but actually evolved from the trees to hunt for prey.... Like a Venus Flytrap, it will lure MTBers to feed on their corpses and metal frames. Some say the planks are not wet from the rain, but from the trees drooling as they hunger for your flesh to fertilize the soil.... Brrrrr...
I watch a lot of MTB videos and this is one of the best ever. Love that fact that you put so much time into editing and narrating. Thanks for letting us live vicariously!
Dude, I always dig your content, but I love how far you've come in terms of production quality since I first watched your videos when you were at like 1500 subscribers. So stoked for you!
The north shore really is a wonderful playground. Been there twice and each time it has given me a deeper appreciation for the creativeness, skill, and challenge that comes with mountain biking. I'm just glad I've been lucky enough to see it with many of these features still rideable.

One of the best vids I've seen on Seymour and the North Shore. Kudos man. Beautifully done and properly inspirational. I'm 46 and pretty shit on a mountain bike (improving but very slowly), having never really ridden one until a year ago (I was an out and out roady), this looks like Nirvana to me. More so that Whistler I think. It just looks like magic and this vid and your insight just confirmed that and I hope upon hope I'm not running out of years to get good enough to make it over there one day. Brilliant work and good riding.
Yeah - this is my second year of mountain biking not just urban bashing. Learning every ride and to be in the forest is great. Serene, wonderful and frightening at the same time LOL Great video and outlook on life.
Man! I have been watching you for months now. I just recently had started watching your channel from beginning to end and I am just having a blast with you on all your journeys. To be honest I started watching you because of your van build process. That is all I searched on youtube and I came across your van build videos and started watching, then I really got into the mountain biking. I loved these videos so much that I want to start getting into biking again. I have a crappy 100 dollar walmart bike and want to take it to the normal wash trails while I look at the beautiful Tucson view. All I need is tires haha! Anyway....I can not get enough of the stoke and the joy it brings you. Thank you so much for providing this kind of content and thank you for being you. I hope I can get out soon! I am also working on the layout of my van build. I can't afford it but I love making floor plans which keeps my hopes up haha. I just wanted to let you know that you have my full support and once I start making an income I would love to help support you by donating. But for now I will LIKE all your videos ;) Be safe, Have fun!
We miss you buddy. My son came to visit today and asked "what happened to the sampler." Our beloved Mountain Bike Jesus. Back in the day he woukd ccome over and we would spend our time together watching your vids. 😍❤😇
Huge inspiration, man. The last part of the video hit home pretty good. Hitting the woods each and every weekend really does make me feel like a kid again. Keep up the great content. I watch every day. Ian
Man, the quality of your videos has gone through the roof recently! I’m so super impressed, dude! Also, this makes me really stoked to ride again since some big injuries and long recoveries. I back!
Glad to hear you had fun making it. Bouncing back is possible, just got to believe it and try. Enjoying a bounce back myself with my work now. So fortuitous.
I know I could not ride most of the stuff in this video, but there is something magical about these woods and watching you ride through them. I've never been to the PNW and I cannot wait until I get a chance.
Singletrack Sampler gets my vote for "Most Improved RUclipsr of 2019". Your vids get getting better. Saw your recent live stream with BKXC and I completely understand all your thoughts and emotions about all this. Just keep on being you and the videos will be awesome.
I think the new videos are great and polished AF. Boy do I really miss the unscripted stoke that you shared on a weekly basis when you first started out though. Maybe I’m the only one, but there was something magical and pure in those more raw videos that I looked forward to and I really miss seeing now days.
When it's slick like that you may find more luck with your tires partially deflated (more grip & traction) but this proves issues elsewhere so pack a pump!
Very good words at the end, that's exactly what I felt when I came to the northshore first time this year. First ride I did 'Expresso' and was scared by some of the features. After sending it I couldn't stop smiling and knew I found the ultimate MTB playground.
Such a great edit! I found myself cheering for you guys throughout the video. I just love challenging technical lines. The community is super chill and so friendly, this is also why I love mountain biking, everyone is just happy to be out on the trail and toked to ride. Keep it up!
@14.05 Serious kudos for sending it!! Also, love the edit, thx for all the effort you've clearly put into it. This kind of content I could easily wait a little longer for, your on a roll now, keep crushing it!
Wow, that was your best video and one of the best MTB vids I’ve seen on RUclips. Welcome back from your time off, the story telling classes already paid off!!
Wow the quality of your videos has definitely increased. Loved the info at the beginning. Clearly the wait was worth it. That riding looks amazing Mr. Sampler!
Brought back memories of the early 80's in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Up and over from Fremont Older near Cupertino then flying back down the paved road into Los Gatos. Stevens Creek area was one of my favorites. Thanks for the video. 😎😎😎
Love that u made a north shore video. I live 5 mins away from it and it’s the best. If uve never been or seen it it’s very intimidating but very fun love to see mtb RUclipsrs conquering the shore and love how u mentioned wade Simmons. Keep up the riding
Agreed. The extra polish doesn't outweigh only dropping once a month, or so. But, not my channel, and it's free. So I'll just appreciate it when ever it comes out.
Man you crushed the story telling and narrative in this video. I really appreciate the work that you put into this video. Looking forward to seeing more classic style ride / follow cam stuff as well. It would be nice to be able push those out so we can enjoy more of your content between your bigger projects. Your level of stoke makes a major positive impact in so many of our lives. Been missing your content a ton.
Although I know it's not what you want to hear, I think that I'll be sticking to this style here on the channel, however, I still do enjoy uploading the occassional raw ride video on Patreon.
@@The_SamplerThat's a bummer to hear, but I totally understand. Raw POV style of content is super saturated right now by creators on RUclips and it's important to develop a style that helps you grow, stand out, and monetarily support yourself. It's mostly a bummer to loose your regularly released content because I miss what you bring to us in positivity and stoke (no one does it like you do!). Stay rad!!!
Finally someone is competing at Seth's level. Alex's content growth will only see his channel explode. I can only watch so many mind numbing trail ride videos. Telling a story and provided multi shot videos with good editing is a game changer. Keep up the good work.
I have to throw up a huge thank you! Finding this video and seeing the spills and failures and determination to keep trying has re-sparked my old interest in mountain biking. I feel too old to start again, but the idea of starting small and riding every day can get me there again. This is so much better than only seeing the gnarly stuff accomplished by others. Not that it's a bad thing, but if you aren't great it can be discouraging. So, thank you!
Bro I just love your videos so much, your the most lighthearted person ever and I just love your vids, you deserve all the good stuff coming your way just keep sending it man!
Thanks for the great video of my backyard. You hit some great spots on this visit for sure. I particularly agree with your closing comments about riding bringing you back to your childhood - moving into my mid-50's and getting out on the Shore is the closest feeling I get to riding my old Mustang bike in the mud under Lions Gate Bridge almost 50 years ago!
Good video, but the voice over style just doesn't have the same stoke as your previous videos. Would love to see you back in front of the camera in a more natural way.
Man oh man....those high skinnies, even if it's dry wood, are the death of me! I've got to be really on my game to just commit. I loved this video for documenting this place and this type of riding. You are really becoming quite a filmmaker Alex!! Great stuff!!!
It's so cool to have watched your progress over time and see you go from not being able to jump really, to progress to the level of holding manuals and running epic skinnies with large drops and gaps. Congratulations on all your progress buddy, very inspiring :)
Always nice to see a Sampler video. This is one for me to watch from a comfy chair, as I have neither the skill, nor the bottle to ride these features. Best wishes to those that can and do.
Mate, that was an awesome video. I love the rawness of your normal style vlogs, but honestly this was a joy to watch. If anything it was a bit short. Keep rocking on mate! 👍

One of the best mtb videos of the year. Great editing and story telling. Epic!
Drinking game idea: take a shot every time Alex says "skinny"
😵
More like 🤔😐👁️👄👁️😭😮😔😁
Thanks for the great video of my backyard.
Here’s a challenge, ride skinny’s with clipless.....
YES. Alex and Jordan are such amazing youtubers!
When you laughed you almost sound like a bo3 zombies xD
It's so cool to have watched your progress over time and see you go from not being able to jump really, to progress to the level of holding manuals and running epic skinnies with large drops and gaps. Congratulations on all your progress buddy, very inspiring :)
Great stuff but I have to admit that I'd prefer more frequent, less polished content!
Always nice to see a Sampler video. This is one for me to watch from a comfy chair, as I have neither the skill, nor the bottle to ride these features. Best wishes to those that can and do.
First thing “what the fuuu is this?
North shore of vancouver
Thanks sampler for your willingness to be so transparent and keeping the stoke🤘🏻
yeah, worth the 1.5 month wait
Mate, that was an awesome video.
I love the rawness of your normal style vlogs, but honestly this was a joy to watch. If anything it was a bit short.
Keep rocking on mate! 👍
