Berm Peak: Can I clear the most famous backyard trail in the world?

- Last summer I hit the biggest jumps of my life on Whistler's A-Line and Dirt Merchant trails. Today I have a different sort of challenge, one that has been testing me both physically and mentally for over 3 months! Join me as I attempt to ride every single feature in Seth's back yard, and become the second person ever to conquer Berm Peak and all of it's sketchy features!
🙌MASSIVE thanks to MY PATRONS that make the production of these videos possible 🙌

Unless you have been living in a cave for the past year… or maybe a van… you’ve probably been following along with our friend Seth as he’s begun to build what is now the most famous backyard trail system in the world: Berm Peak.
Ever since I’ve known Seth, he’s had a healthy appetite for all things sketchy. A fact that he has clearly seen in his own trail building.
Like everyone else, I too was on the outside looking in as Seth continued to add to his collection of sketchy and challenging features, some of which looked straight out of the North Shore!
As I watched Seth and many other competent riders, struggle to ride these features, I realized that this was exactly the challenge I needed: if I can successfully ride every single feature at Berm Peak, I will without a doubt have become a more proficient technical rider, and possibly even more importantly - have the bragging rights of being the only one besides Seth to do so!
My guy riding like he can respawn.

Hey guys! I'm SO STOKED to finally share this video with you, and though it was really scary to scrap my first draft and start all over, I'm now so proud and stoked about how it all came out and I really hope you all dig it too! LFRHGS my friends! I'll see ya in the next one 🤘
It was worth the wait. That came out great! It really captures the mental challenges of the sport.
The Singletrack Sampler it was a fun video to watch
This is one of the most compelling videos you’ve made... and that is saying a lot! I am sorry about your bike and glad you are okay. The way this ended was so great! We’ve all been there. Epic ride, pushing hard to finish strong, and in the next second... disaster (and a lack of closure or finish)! You’ve captured the highs and lows of MTB without a trip to the hospital.
Best cinematography I’ve seen on your channel! Way to keep progressing in more ways than one!
The ending 😂😂 hope you're ok man
The attitude you had towards that at the end was amazing. Taking the good out of everything and being able to laugh with it like you do is what I aspire to be able to do my dude.
I just found your channel and every video feels like a mini documentary. I love it
Welcome to the fam!
Im here since around 7k subs and i still LOVE it, thanks Alex im 15 and i started 3 years ago and now i send double blacks and I can keep up with with the best local riders .
I never thought i'd ever be able to say this, heck i even got some of my Friends hooked on mtb's ond met many new nice people MTB 4 life🤙🤟
Your in for a treat, this channel is unreal!!
I was literally thinking about this channel today but I could not remember what the name was, all I knew was the I wanted to watch more videos. Literally and hour and a half later your channel shows up in my recommended and I was so happy!
Glad you found me again! 😄
Just watched Seth make an omelet and now this. Best Sunday morning ever
Its Sunday evening in Germany but its still good
I just got back from a ride when I saw seth’s vid, then saw this right after my shower! Truly the best Sunday morning ever
Yeah, im eating my own omlett in germany right now while watching this. haha
I agree
My palms got sweaty for you. I remember how sweaty I was hitting some moderate difficulty features my first time! Feels so free to finally have the confidence to do it!!
I guess we'll never know what Seth's good news was after all
That is called a cliff hanger. They need something to talk about in the next video.I bet he will say the frame is OK.
It felt like he was about to tell a joke to me
@@bobsturgis4674 the frame is fine. It will be unrelated tho I think.
@@bobsturgis4674 I think Seth has some rims to put in there haha
@@didaccarbasa7676 I agree. Seth probably has enough spare time, dropper posts or even spare bikes ^^
Nice! Seeing you work through the process of overcoming these features really inspires me to progress on this type of riding. You and Seth working on A-Line gave me the confidence to clear all of A-Line on my first trip to Whistler at the end of last summer. Thank you for that!
Berm Peak is hands down, one of the top 3 backyard mountain bike trails and it has inspired us to make our own backyard MTB trail and document it on RUclips.
Matt Jones and Eric porter are the other two I assume
What do you mean? It’s number one!
Definitely but in a year its gonna be #1
Interesting. Where can I watche the other two? I really like these kind of projects.

I'm looking forward to watching Phil clear "The Kevin jump" on his first try lol
is Phil going out to Seths Berm Peak?
Yeah!
He would then try to jump straight into the wooden berm
BRO I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE UR ENERGY IT IS JUST AMAZING 😉 UR JUST so confident btw I love ur vids
one of the best episode of singletrack sampler.. the way you carry the viewer's emotion and all, and ending it with getting back to reality. successfully bringing me in the emotional journey. daayuumm! Thank you, Alex!
"Every rider is different, each with their own unique experiences and riding styles that shape the lense through which we see trails." Very well said. Never even thought of it this way but it's so true.
Hahaha, dude; love the ending! 😂
Seth’s face on 5:58 is the same face I make when my teachers try to teach me something new during a zoom meeting
At 14:37 the seat is already skewed. Definitely not the ending I was suspecting lol
Yeah I'm pretty sure they went back to film it more dramatically as a joke because you can also see in the next shot his back tire is completly flat.
No it isn't that's just what Ergon seats look like. The tire is running normal low pressure.
Jeff Bell yeah I thought it looked rather squishy!
Ya for some reason it looked sideways
Man i feel like when i watch you ride its like i'm watching myself ride. Your thought processes and mental build ups are something that resonated with me so hard.
dude! totally worth the wait! great content man! great to have ya back, posting A+ content.
That gentle dig at the end "Well you want to hear the good news?" "Think the video's over". Brilliant.
I'll admit... i have not watched your vids since the van build.... the quality is so much better than it was in the past. I like MTB vids but first person views of trails get old after awhile... this is great! Love the new style!
Our own unique experience and riding styles that shape the lens through which we see trails/lines. I like that.
Sick video once again what’s better then watching them on a Sunday. He has inspired me to start my own channel.
I wish it was Saturday! I love how both Seth and Alex posted on the same day!

Hey Sampler, Ive watched a ton of your videos this past couple of years and they are all great! BUT...i personally think the quality of shots and editing has skyrocketed since your brief hiatus! They are always inspiring to watch!!! I see and appreciate the hard work put into the videos!!! Thanks
Man The Editing and voice lines are on Point!
thanks dude!
The Singletrack Sampler bro your rim is GONE. Best you can do I think is get a new saddle and rim, but I’m just stating the obvious aren’t I?
Sounds like it’s time for a new bike...or at least a good excuse for one! 😆
To come back and watch the video that got me into mountain biking two years later is so cool
The ifht sytle editing at the end beautiful
Nice work Alex , well done , really enjoyed the vid
14:07 - Whoa, dude! Did we just go full on Peter McKinnon, or what?! Nice cinematography! Great use of b-roll. The sound is awesome. I love the music selection, too. And then, of course, the plot twist!
Also, it is so nice to see even seasoned riders coming up on features that challenge and even frighten them. This video was so freakin' relatable! It has been well worth the wait. I love the leveling up you're doing in your work, Alex! You are truly coming into your own with this stuff.
Also, nice leaving us with a cliff hanger.
Stay upright, keep the rubber side down, and of course, Live Free, Ride Hard, and Get Stoked!

Love that you called it on that first attempt of the snake gap. Big props
I almost clicked away before the full run at the end. Glad I didn't, I was not expecting that. but what was Seth's "good news"?
Worth the wait. Thanks for taking the time you wanted.
This video's end is like the ending of an episode of a Netflix series. There are so many questions!

I'm sorry Alex lol I watched Seth make some breakfast before coming here 🤣

Yup, that's most of us. I think?
If it weren't for that omelette, I'm not sure I woulda made it over the snake gap, so I don't blame you!
Yep..... The dogs ate better than me this mornin'.....

This video is a sick edit! Congrats on clearing Berm Peak and I'm glad you only killed the bike and not you. LOL
Great video. It always looks easy until you see it in person.
alex really just left us hanging at the end with not telling us what the good news was
Dude! One of your best videos ever!
Loved the return to some first person and real action breaking up the voice over style a bit.
Awesome 😎 ....I was on the edge of my seat every time you did a run up to the snake pit gap. Can’t believe you cracked your rear rim...(better the rim than your leg though). Can’t wait to see what you can do on the airbag jump!!!
Alex-thank you for showing the "human" side--the "oh man I hope I can do this but if I can't this is going to suck..." side. I find myself there a lot!! Love the videos...
Can we get an honest opinion of Seths omelette
DJBTicic yes.
I clicked this first hope to see you agian
I got really hungry
Someone else asked him, and he said between a 1-10, it was a 9.2
11:45 dude I’m pretty sure we have the exact same bike, shocks and everything, the only thing different (that I can notice) is that you have a thinner seat than I do. Keep up the good work man!
Do you have both pedals?
At the end during the "montage" I thought the rear tyre looked flat on the first feature. Certainly was after the whale :s
rip
Yeah for sure, looked like it was lower than 20psi
Some people run low tire pressure, some run lighter tires. We will never know.
@@bananasstuff3344 Nah, we know. Look at the saddle on that shot too.
Hi Alex, that was so awesome you got the jump you were stuck on. I really love the way you show what you struggle with and the mental game - “I just decided and I did” so many things I can psych myself out on so I really relate to that. Thank you. I’m so sorry about your bike
Who else doesn’t want him to leave Berm Peak?
it should atleast be his home base or something!

You crushed it with this video Alex, worth the re-edit! The Jank is Real out there too! Haha!
Interesting. I thought it was a play on an ‘A’ frame. Like the roof style. Similar shape, but the turn is how a guy gets maimed.
Dude, honestly my favorite video yet. The editing and narrative was so dialed! Amazing how good your videos have gotten. REALLY wish that epic scene at the end wasn’t cut short though. You should make an entire cinematic video like that soon!

Wait so what was the good news from seth lmao
Hes still alive, is a good enough news :D
Glad we waited. That was a super sweet video. Many thanks 🙏
You know what, I'm having second thoughts about wanting to ride at Seth's
I like how you focus on what you can do, you don't base your progress on other peoples greatness.
@1:03 he had to 🌮 lol I wanna see more backyard fails
Thanks for the great start to a Monday. Sorry about the bike, happy that it was just the bike.
The video production and content is excellent. I am glad you took the time you needed to get it the way you wanted. It is your creation and it is most important that you are happy with what you create. Cheers.
How good was the omelet from 1 to 10

The Singletrack Sampler that’s pretty good.
Awesooooome!!!
Cinematic ending was solid. Glad you rolled out of that cleanly! 🤙🏼
I like that there are giant stumps left lying around to cushion your fall
Dude @singletracksampler this may have been my favorite video of yours all time. That build up at the end was great!
Seth didnt said it all, “theres no such thing as jinx, because I believe in you”
Love this channel have watch it since you where camping out of Sheila. The quality of this channel has only gone up. Keep up the good work

I can't stop watching these. You two are awesome. Well done
I’m actually watching this before seths dog omelette
Love the realness at the end. Cant wait for the next Video!
Love the real ending. Would have been simple to pull a wheel of another bike and do the run. This was better.
I watched this video 3 times. So happy watching you with you collab with Seth. To tell you im not a subscriber but definitely follow and support your videos everytime you have one.
Well... This video turned out to be way more expensive than expected...
RIP Alex's rim and saddle
You have come a long way with the story telling. Great Job!
Look at Seth on 5:58 he looks amazed.
Alex hands down one of your best videos!
I’ve had a couple pretty bad crashes this year and I feel like I’m moving backwards. Like every time I ride I feel less confident.
Try riding for fun, go back to places/features you feel most comfortable on or are easy until you get back in the groove and the mental barrier starts to fade. Process the crashes and figure out what you can learn from them if possible. These are all things that helped me
Honestly, I struggle with a similar problem. I recently bought a new bike and it seems as if I’m less comfortable riding and jumping my new Nike than I am my old one (which is less nice markedly). I think you just need to start somewhere you are comfortable, and just work back up incrementally. You will find that it is easier to progress when you have already done things. Keep trying!
Yeah tip is (I'm assuming) stop tracking your rides for a while. Don't worry about speeds and times and just have fun. Go slower, hit some little jumps and do some skids. Get back into it slowly. That always works for me
Make sure you work on your balance. Not just on the bike, but in general. It sometimes can get worse after crashing, and it really lowers your confidence
I don’t crash because I take it slow and steady... now I can do 5 foot gaps and combo wheelies
As they were explaining the word maim. I got a cartoon add of a dinosaur stepping on living fruit.
What do you do with a difficult task, you step back and look at it from a different angle and try again..orrr.. FULL SEND IT
Love the ending! The reality of riding.
6:00 , Seth looks like he is so focused on the camera.
I love how pumped Alex gets !! Good job brotha 👍
Ill do it in one
Doesnt matter if im in the hospital after, i made it in one
So I literally just found mountain bike RUclips and this is dope man. Your awesome! I rode bmx for a long time when I was younger from about 13-17 and these little jumps and things are awesome but the technical side of things are way more impressive!
