Hey man, I had prostatitis for a long time. One thing that helped me (haven’t had it in years) is drinking plenty of water, and cutting back on caffeine.
I have low grade prostate cancer and asked my urologist if a prostate massage would cause problems like accelerate the spread. He said no but also cautioned that it shouldn't be a direct poke/push of the prostate, more of a sideways motion.
I suffered from prostatitis several years ago. It took a year to resolve and 4 different urologist where one told me I was not sick enough.... I performed prostrate massage and it helped a great deal to relieve many symptoms.

My first time visiting a urologist. He's a big guy, maybe 6'4" and he shows me his big hands and says, "Hi, I'm Doctor Smith. I have big hands and I really love my job!" Completely cracked me up and relaxed me.
I hope that relaxed your sphincter as well, with those giant fingers, you’d need it. He should have been a massage therapist, why do these people become urologists or dentists? Keep your banana hands away from my mouth and corn hole!!!

Thats some real customer service right there. "I wear gloves to make sure bacteria from my hands doesn't get into the rectum." Not "I wear gloves so I don't get your nasty shit on my fingers."
I had a prostate exam awhile back and it was very painful. I asked the doctor why and he said he used 2 fingers. When I asked why he said, "because I needed a second opinion." I'll see myself out...
I had my prostate exam too a while ago, my doctor was professional and polite...but I had to ask after a few seconds into it, if it was a necessary procedure since i came there for a dental cleaning.
Great informative video. I have been getting a prostate massage about once a month for 10 years now & have always had great experiences. This information has been kept under the rug for too long. Thanks for the video.
“We use a very well lubricated finger…” reminded me of that scene in the TV program ER when the intern, Dr. Carter, forgot the lube. It was hilarious, but only because it wasn’t me.
as a 76 year old male, i find my diet is key and taking anti inflammatory vitamins help also, i know if i am doing things right by the way i go to the washroom, lol, what i have found over the years is that every body reacts differently to the same treatment. i have also found that DIET is key to your health, if you are counting on pharmacy stuff you needs to wake up to reality. there are several good doctors putting out vids dealing with this matter.
I'm a half decade younger than you, and I totally agree about diet. And exercise. I eat multiple fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts, beans, legumes, whole grains, and salmon and sardines. And I drink espresso. (coffee is good for people who don't get jittery from caffeine.) And I run with my dog most days.
I dont have many problems with my prostate (37yr) and I think the major thing is because I massage it regularly. But I dont use those big toys that make your eyes pop out from pain, I do it with my hugo and it feels really good. Id recommend this toy to anyone looking for a decent prostate massager (it has a perineum massage part too)!
Could you comment on the possible role of fungal infection being the root cause of non bacterial prostatitis looking at studies such as the one published in the Central European Journal of Urology in 2013 by Kotb et al. as well as other studies showing that non bacterial prostatitis contracted by men under 40 is often fungal related and why this isn't addressed more. Also if you could comment on why tests such as Expressed Prostatic Secretions (or others) are not routinely done to find out what type of bacteria or fungal infection is being dealt with so that treatment can be better targeted. Thanks :)
Would love to learn more about prostatitis. Was diagnosed with non bacterial prostatitis. And my urologist didn't even analyze my fluids. Could you make a video on non bacterial prostatitis?
I had prostatitis a few years back myself. Pain, difficulty urinating and 103 temp. Symptoms ended almost immediately with a dose of Advil given to address the temp when I went to urgent care. Urine sample afterward (first time I'd felt I'd been able to completely empty my bladder in days) and physical exam turned up nothing, but I did end up doing a course of antibiotics just in case. From my research I recall there's some percentage of prostatitis cases that are of unknown cause. Would love to hear Rena's thoughts on this.
Guys …. i cured my recurring bouts with prostatitis by cutting out liquid Cows Milk from my diet. Fortunately i can still eat cheese and the occasional yogurt with no effect… a glass of cold milk an cookies or a big bowl of cereal and milk are delicious i know but it’s a small price to pay for not experiencing the frightening pain and misery of prostatitis …. definitely worth a try !!

The first time I had a prostate exam it was part of an overall physical I had to have done for work. I was about 24 years old, and was nervous as hell about it. For some reason, I thought a little humor might be of use, so I told the guy....sometimes I think of the things I've said over the years and just shake my head....he asks if I've ever had this done before. I said no. Then I followed it up with "I'll try not to dispatch any methane during the procedure." Now, to the casual observer, maybe there's a little humor in that. If you're the guy about to perform the exam, probably not so much. He said "This....is an exercise in relaxation." No it was not. I'm the first to admit that his line was waaaay funnier than mine, but...no, there was no relaxation to be had.
Well embarrassingly it works for me. I was having weak urine stream and pain. The urologist prescribed an antibiotic even though my urine didn’t show any signs of infection but I got the prescription anyway and took the pills and the pain went away and my stream improved somewhat. A few months later the pain was back, I’m missing the toilet and soaking the floor and didn’t want another course of antibiotics cause again, nothing was found in the urine. So I got some toys figured out which fit best and went at it. And behold I was peeing like a champ! Not to mention the pain started to go away and according to my wife my “performance” improved (though she won’t help me with the massage). I am an avid cyclist for many years and never had an issue until one day I had an issue. I massage every few months and everything works as it should (no more urine on the floor!). Yeah it helps, I am proof of it. And yes it’s embarrassing to talk about. BUT we just buried my brother-in-law this past May, he died at 53 from prostate cancer and it was an undignified dimise. So get you psa levels checked yearly and lube up every now and then! Hope this helps
August 22nd it’s been three years and I’m Cancer Free!! After a Blood test on my yearly Physical my Doctor said my PSA LEVEL WAS HIGH. Long story but I had Prostrate Cancer. I had it removed and all is finally back to Normal. Men you don’t need it to live a good life. Get Tested, catching it early was a life saver!!
no way you're (sex life) is normal with a prostate removed... you say it's normal.. tell us what really happened after the fact.. unless you want us to believe you no longer have a normal sex life...
I've been told the same thing about sex after prostate removal. You don't need a prostate to have an orgasm or get an erection. The prostate only contributes seminal fluid to protect the sperm during ejaculation. Once you remove the prostate your orgasms are dry but you still feel them.
Prostate massage gave some relief from what I believe was a blockage of some ducts in the prostate. I had bilharzia as a child and a scan picked up some calcification in the prostate. I had difficulty ejaculating a few times, and several bouts of prostatitis. My urologist suspected Chlamidia despite a negative test, and gave a one shot antibiotica, which gave some relief. I would appreciate more info on prostatitis and possibly blockage in the various tubes. .
Question: I have a nodule in my prostate and been receiving active surveillance every 4 months for a bit over 2 years now. Everything has been fine, no change noted and my PSA has remained steady a bit below 1. What is the chance that a prostate massage for pleasure, deliberately stimulating it, would cause a disruption or change in the nodule for the worse? Like cause it to break open. And thank you for being so open about this topic.
On the day of my prostrate appointment, my Doc received me with a box of Ferrer Rocher choxolates, a bottle of california red, red roses and a twinkle in his right eye. It was fantastic. I immediately signed up as a Clarinet player in my hometown marching band and made an appointment with my dentist hoping he will fill my void.
On my first prostate exam I called the DR. Capt. Kirk he attempted to correct me but I still called him Capt. Kirk. At the end he asked why did I keep referring to him by Capt Kirk. I advised that he went where no man has gone before. He and his nurse couldn’t stop laughing.
I was diagnosed with prostatitis and missed 6 weeks of work. Felt like I was sitting on a softball. Urologist examined me every week and milked as he called it, the prostate to put fluid on a slide. Wasn’t comfortable but definitely not the worst pain I’ve ever had. I suffer from chronic kidney stones so I didn’t think prostatitis was painful.
I got acute prostatitis & think I came close to dying from the acute associated vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Fortunately my wife got me to the hospital & 48 hrs on IV antibiotics sorted me out. 😳👍
@@rockykoast7065 it took 2 weeks of tablet form antibiotics for me. Told me they were the strongest they could prescribe. Prostatitis ain’t no joke. Hope your all cured!
There are only two things I experienced as more painful than my kidney stone. Had bile duct spasms on the same level, but having my lower leg crushed as well as amputated was worse than the kidney stone. Although not by a lot, they say those are as painful as child birth.
Ask your local asian massage parlor if they offer this service. Most do for an additional fee. I have found that costs vary with missus, and are of often negotiable. I highly recommend it.....especially during table shower.
Had one done recently, while he was checking it, I told him "Can you take off your ring?, it's uncomfortable". He said "that's not my ring, it's my watch!!!" I was like YIKES...
When I was in college and donated sperm at $ 50 per pop. The nurse there would perform prostate massage as I came close to ejaculating. She said this helped the sperm stay viable. One day she was replaced by another nurse and when I asked her about it. She looked horrified. I think with my big mouth I got the other nurse fired. I truly believed she was helping the sperm.
I have a lady doctor who told me she needed to check my prostate. While she was doing it she said I should probably give up masturbating for a while. I asked why, and she said because I was moving around too much and it was hard to do the exam.
My dentist used his own personal special tool on my teeth, and now they are whiter than ever. The taste of the cream tastes a little strange, though. Kind of slightly salty.
Very interesting content that people would otherwise avoid and shy away from I, for one, like to know what does and what does not give health benefits (ie; a LOT of body parts benefit from massages)
When my 'Proc Doc' tells me 'everything looks fine; what specific questions should I ask? When my test comes back what numbers should I see? How the numbers expressed and what to they mean for a 55 year old guy. As you can figure out, my doc does not talk much and gives little information. " You are fine everything is as it should be. " . Thanks, Dan
Since turning 40, my priority in selecting a doctor as a general practitioner is that they have very skinny index fingers. No matter how good any doctor may be, if he/she has sausage fingers they are IMMEDIATELY removed from consideration.
DREs are relatively 42-46% accurate, also while looking for tiny fingers you should also look for "delicate" as well. A doctor with rough or callus hands might miss details. It is better to have a PSA blood test, less invasive more accurate, and if you already feel some pain down there you should schedule a CT or MRI scan for a better picture of the situation. Hope you stay healthy!
The only issue I'm having is my "stream" is very week at times, mediocre at best most of the time...no pain, fever, or anything else. Recently, my "night" trips to the bathroom have dropped from every 45 min to an hour to just 2-3 times during the night...not sure why, but I'm enjoying the improvement.
I just turned 64; I do go an hour before and right before going to bed just after my bath; unfortunately, I drink a lot of water...120+ ounces per day, right up to just before my bath and going to bed.
@@jameshigginbothamiii8703 ...I just turned 63 and have prostate problems in the family although my psa is 2.1 what I was told to give up all dairy products and to do 16-8 intermittent fasting to keep insulin down, decrease inflammation in the body and increase autophagy and after 2 mth I no longer wake up at night my peeing stream is near normal and feel much... actually MUCH! better overall, all I do is not eat anything for breakfast and just have lunch and dinner, I'm retired so I manage to go for walks or ride the bike in the morning (takes a week or so for your body to get used to the new routine) once your body gets used to it you'll have heaps of energy while fasting, remember to eat healthy energy dense foods (wild caught salmon, avocados, organic eggs and lots of green veggies) go to bed before 10pm and no stress, stress is a killer and your prostate will love you for it 👌
I've had my prostate checked during a physical. I had my 1st prostate check at 17 by a female doctor @ Kaiser in LA. I've had 2 prostate massages in the past 14 years. The 2nd time, which was the last time she wanted to put 2 fingers instead of 1 later during the session.
I know, this is picking nits, but the closed caption (automated, I assume) kept referring to massage. Can you please get someone to proofread the script and/or compare it to the CC?
I expect a meal and a movie before my exam. I don’t appreciate it when my doctor puts both hands on my shoulders during the exam though…personal preference.
Thank you Dr. Malik for this video. You answered my long-standing questions about prostate exams and prostate massages. Now when my doctor asks me to let him do an exam, I won't be so skittish and I might even enjoy it a little (especially if she is a woman).
@D Sullivan that’s only if you have prostate cancer. I think the user was wanting to know if the massage can help prevent cancer. The belief is that a dormant prostate can become cancerous. If there is someone with severe ED, this my be a way to exercise the prostate. No medical theory, just my opinion after researching for years.
Unfortunately, if you suffer from no bacterial prostatitis or other prostate issues, the mainstream medical options are few and grim. Physical excercises, especially as guided by a physiotherapist have worked for me and many others. I hope mainstream medicine catches up, because no doctor told me about this when I was suffering initially.
They usually don’t and have to be careful of malpractice, hence can only advise and do what the AMA / medical school training says to do. My cardiologist told me “I made some comeback”, but never advised to exercise, at all, he just says - “keep running”. Since I’m a runner / biker. Besides about 5 drugs to take at the time, he said to eat a low sodium diet, that’s all. I stopped all the drugs years ago, as I asked him to take me off as soon as he can. Now just see home once a year. Exercise regularly is always good, never see how it’s bad. Proper diet as well, less or little of fast / processed food.

Thanks :)
You have informed me. Thank you
Would love to learn more about prostatitis.

He said "This....is an exercise in relaxation."
No it was not. I'm the first to admit that his line was waaaay funnier than mine, but...no, there was no relaxation to be had.
All I got to say is “if he puts those gloves on, he better plan on doing some dishes!”

I Have a good Doctor, a Patient Wife, and life is real 👍🏼 good. Sorry you have been misinformed,☮️😁😎

They should just make a artificial massager
@@thatdude3977 They do.
LOL! LOVE IT
Facts lol I got a skinny Indian lady dr
DREs are relatively 42-46% accurate, also while looking for tiny fingers you should also look for "delicate" as well. A doctor with rough or callus hands might miss details. It is better to have a PSA blood test, less invasive more accurate, and if you already feel some pain down there you should schedule a CT or MRI scan for a better picture of the situation. Hope you stay healthy!
Thanks a lot Dr. Rena for your excellent and infomative videos they are very helpful 🌹🙏

Has there been any studies that look at how prostate massage affects the rate of prostate cancer?
@D Sullivan that’s only if you have prostate cancer. I think the user was wanting to know if the massage can help prevent cancer. The belief is that a dormant prostate can become cancerous. If there is someone with severe ED, this my be a way to exercise the prostate. No medical theory, just my opinion after researching for years.
@D Sullivan also, that was with a strong massage, not the recommended gentle one.
Unfortunately, if you suffer from no bacterial prostatitis or other prostate issues, the mainstream medical options are few and grim. Physical excercises, especially as guided by a physiotherapist have worked for me and many others. I hope mainstream medicine catches up, because no doctor told me about this when I was suffering initially.
sometimes doctos wants the ez way but natural medicine , eat healthy things or even massage can help more than pills.
