  • Dive into the mysterious world beneath the waves where dolphins and killer whales share the ocean in a way you’d never expect. Discover why dolphins, usually prey to some killer whales, can be seen swimming calmly alongside others. This video reveals the fascinating strategy dolphins use to distinguish between the dangerous transient killer whales and the harmless fish-eating southern residents. Learn how the sounds of echolocation become a life-saving signal for dolphins, and why they choose to swim with certain orcas as a protective shield. It’s a stunning glimpse into the intelligence and survival tactics of marine life.
    If you are interested in animals, Animal Doozy has something for you! It's impressive that, dolphins can tell them apart not out of any biological difference but, out of behavioral traits, which means that the behavioral gap between different pods is such that even other species can notice it. I'd argue that's a strong indicative of what we could call culture.

    • @dreammaker9642
      @dreammaker9642 4 месяца назад

      That’s not very unique or culture 😂 that’s just natural selection and knowing how to it be predated by a predator. Can backfire cause all the other orcas have to do is switch up to catch ‘em slippin. Hence why there’s probably other factors than sound because orcas are smart dolphins too so they would figure they can finess and catch a free meal.

      I feel certain the dolphins can tell a difference in a way that we are unable to detect... besides the fact that they are "noisy". It's not like it isn't known that we have inferior senses compared to other animals in different ways. Sharks can smell in the water. Maybe the Southern Residents have a scent or pheromone that the dolphins can detect. Maybe there's infrared/uv "coloring" on the orcas we haven't detected (or looked for) that we can't see but the dolphins can. There lots of ways they could be noticeably different from the others (are those Biggs?) that we just haven't identified yet.

    Orca are interesting in that they're rather like us: Cultural specialists.
    Some humans eat insects regularly, some have never eaten them and would never. Orca are the same in that different family groups have different eating cultures. Some only eat penguins, some are even shark specialists.
    What's clear is Orca almost never stray from the food groups they are familiar with, because they are never forced to be survival eaters due to how effective a predator they are.
    This is why orca in the wild never attack humans. No orca is from a culture that eats human. At least, not yet they aren't.

      Teenage dolphins are really smart and full of hormones. Their moms kick them out and they will form juvenile gangs. They get high on puffer fish and kidnap female dolphins and take advantage of them. I know you probably think I'm full of it but this is 💯% facts. It seems the smarter we are the more nonsense we get up to. Regardless of the species. 😂

    • @Nameless_Sky
      @Nameless_Sky 6 месяцев назад +9

      Not really. Residential orcas are usually take their own territory and they rarely leave it. Transit orcas are travelers, they can accidentally step in their territories but well... Orcas don't really like to atack anything that can badly injure them until it's necessary. As well as transient orcas have comparably small pods while residential one has bigger pods.... There's absolutely no need for transient orcas take such big risk, they would rather leave.

    • @Nameless_Sky
      @Nameless_Sky 5 месяцев назад

      @ScrammyDeeds They dont need to... usually, social predators are fighting for territories or for mating. Orcas are apex predators that can survive nearly anywhere in the ocean, and they don't have many natural enemies, but their quantities are low. So... why would they need to fight for territories when it's easier just to move?
      For mating... they simply don't fight for this. Maybe because it's already hard for them to grow even single cub. The whole pod will protect single cubs... so male orcas can't act as lions, for example (new lion in pride kills all cubs from previous lion, so he can bread with lionesses again. Lionesses don't resist too much.)

    there a subtile differences between the appearance of those orca groups...
    resident orcas have a rounded dorsal fin, a relatively strait eye patch and an open saddlepatch... transients have a pointed dorsal fin, closed saddlepatch es and downward facing eyepatches...there is a third and more elusive group of orcas called the offshore orcas - they feed primarily on fish and sharks... their dorsal fin is rounded and their saddlepatch is very faint and slim
    almost every orca out there can be photographed and identified by their dorsal fin, saddlepatch, eyepatch and noticeable scars
    just some information for those interested, orcas are awesome and should be respectfully treated as the number 2 on this planet when it comes to emotional intelligence
