Steve Carras no they don’t most of the workers don’t give a shit about their job.. they just go their to work and no if they get fired they can get a new job
Come on folks you actually believe the team of lawyers the McDonald's brothers had at that closing would have allowed them to accept a handshake agreement for .50 % of the sales?? Even in those days it was a lot of money. No the truth is the McDonald's brothers backed out of including the original McDonald's in the deal. They changed their mind and decided they wanted to give it to their long term employees. The only thing Ray did was force the closer of the original one by forcing them to change the name (he controlled the rights to the name) and opening a McDonald's very close to them that soon put them out of business. That's the real story, not the movies version.
I was a valet parking attendant at the Cuyamaca Club in San Diego for a couple of years in the late 1970's and I parked his car very frequently after 5:00 p.m. at the club in downtown San Diego where he presumably had drinks after work and occasionally dinner. I have to say that I don't recall him ever acknowledging me or the other valets (or for that matter, leaving a tip!) What I do remember of him is that he always had a scowl on his face. What I learned from Ray Kroc was that money doesn't make you a happy guy! It's wonderful what death does! All that money he wasn't able to take a cent with him. But he seemly gained was a lot of unhappiness....
"Hamburgers, filet o fish, cheeseburgers, French fries, icy coke, thick shake, Sunday's and apple pies" ... that song will forever be stuck in my head ....
Without Ray Kroc We wouldn't have McDonald's in the entire World, But I still feel Sad for the original McDonald's owners though 😥, The McDonald's brothers didn't deserve of what happen to them 😢
He gave them a huge lump sum for the business. Each over a million dollars, which back then was the kind of money you could buy a kingdom with. I agree that they should have received at least a tiny % of the company as a thank you for coming up with the idea, though. That was a real cutthroat move by Kroc to not honor his word after a handshake. However, the brothers simply did not have the ambition and drive to expand the idea like Kroc did, and so he took that operation by the horns. In the business world, inventions end up belonging to the sharks.
@@ithink3979 Only issue with giving them a royalty is it would have hurt the expansion of McDonald's. A 2% royalty on your sales is still a huge amount of money, because it's not 2% of your profits as much as it's the entire amount you're making...and in the 60's and 70's... McDonald's was using every nickel it made to build more restaurants and market. Let's also keep in mind that the 2.7 million dollars that was paid to Dick and Mac was borrowed from other lenders, and that sum wasn't paid back to the lenders until 1972...11 years later. Kroc himself didn't profit until the late 1970's.
The last restaurant was owned by the employees and he went out of his way to shut them down? They didn’t do anything to Kroc!?! He was truly a scumbag!
I agree, imagine there were 228 McDonald’s in 1960, so it was probably about 250 by the time he bought it in 1961. He now had the system, the name, he was getting paid from all those stores, and he wasn’t paying them any royalties. He had all that, and he focused on the one store they had. If that is not the definition of a greedy bastard, I don’t know what is.
The McDonald's Brothers screwed themselves and were lucky to have gotten whatever a genius gave to them for doing with their idea what they had no understanding to do.
It's really weird to see people agreeing with what Ray did. It doesn't matter how big McDonalds is today. It wasn't his company to try to run/take charge of. The brothers were happy just having their one burger stand. The stress of what be did left one brother dead and the other cheated out of millions, maybe even billions today. I'm pretty sure the remaining family hates the sight of McDonalds to this day. Sure "business is business" but that doesn't make it right.
Mitch S not only did Ray Kroc took the business from them, he also took their names. He could've easily just steal their system, and make his own business with the he knowledge he gained from how McDonald's bros did things, but no, what he did was take their names, and their company with them, they had to change their original sign because that fucker took it from them.
I agree that kroc could have treated the brothers better but without him hardly anyone would have remembered them and McDonald's would most likely have closed years ago. You can call the guy an asshole but at the end of the day he built the McDonalds we have today. You can't really use the quality argument when the McDonald brothers came up with the 30 sec idea. And don't forget the charity work McDonald's has done and the jobs the corporation has provided. Granted its not the bestjob but a job is better than no job. None of that would be there if not for Kroc. So yeah he was somewhat of an asshole to the McDonald brothers but the also deserves credit for the success of McDonalds. Maybe he was a jerk to them because he knew they had a goldmine and they were wasting it.
"I watched a movie & took it as reality without an ounce of research." All these Ray Kroc-hating fools don't know that the McDonald brothers screwed over Kroc at the very onset by not telling him they had already sold rights to someone in Illinois which required Kroc to buyout that contract for $25,000. Wonder why that didn't make it into the movie? They also don't know that the only person who ever claimed a continued royalty was part of the 1961 buyout was a nephew to the McDonald brothers and that Richard McDonald told a reporter he had no regrets about the deal.
actually if you look at it...ray tried to re negotiate his deal with the brothers...just so he could make some money..they didn't want to do it and were prepared to get rid of him. i don't fully blame kroc
Watching the movie made me appreciate how the brothers focused on quality. It's as if they mixed In N Out with Chick Filla. Also the same way they were so willing to switch to powdered ice cream, makes me wonder when did they switch to this fake meat they serve.
Everyone say Ray steal everything for McDonald brother but i think he took the idea from others and turn it into a worldwide brand by himself is a phenomenon.
and without the McDonald's brothers he would have been a washed up car salesmen. funny how leeches always seem to get the praise, especially when their talent is taking other peoples creations and claiming it as their own. thanks McDonald bros. rest in peace.
YOUR MONEY IS MY MONEY, MY MONEY IS MY MONEY!!I TOOK YOUR BUSINESS AND MADE IT MINE, WE CAN STILL BE FRIENDS!!!!Please introduce me to your wife!!! Maybe I'll have her to devorce you to marry me... lmfao, Ray Kroc is cool.
Ray Kroc once told one of the guys who started Burger King "If one of my competitors was drowning I would throw them an Anker" watch "The Food That Built America, Burger Wars"!
I am so sick of people blaming someone else for the fact that they are fat! No one made you fat but yourself! Some company's sell guns does that mean you have to shoot yourself? If you don't want to eat fast food then don't. Some people eat it all the time and are not fat, it's all about balance.
Well I used to live in Naples Florida. If Ray Croc was still alive I would send him to the McDonald's where I used to go to. He would simply have a stroke. The workers didn't care about working. They were always on their cellphones, talking. The term fast food went out the door a long time ago
The McDonald brothers actually had opened 8 McDonald's. They ran the original and the others were franchised to people who talked them letting them open one. In 1953 Dick McDonald approved the new design with the golden arches. Ray's first McDonalds looked like those. The mascot was Speedy. The clown was created by a Washington, D. C. operator and hired Willard Scott as the first Ronald McDonald. Speedy was a Dick McDonald creation and Kroc retired him in favor of the clown.

What a load of horseshit. The McDonald brothers had every opportunity to franchise their awesome concept and failed. Ray Kroc is why we have McDonald's and quick service fast food today, not them. Their concept was always destined to be developed and propagated by someone else. It's just fact.
Jason Walker Some people are not ambitious. The McDonald brothers din't want to be what MCdonald becomes today. Money is not everything. Ray Korc is a thief and you could say that. I bet you are one of those FAT guys who eat mcdonald everyday. I guess that is a fact for you
@boblackey1 McDonalds corp has all but wiped out any history of pre-Kroc McDonalds. I lived in California where the corp. wanted to tear down historic Mc Donalds. The community helped prevented it's demise. Corp. calls the Des Plaines location the "first" and turned it into a museum. what a crock!!
If the movie is 100% accurate then I have no sympathy for the brothers. Kroc had an amazing business model, put it into fruition and was being strangled by having a very tiny piece of the pie. The Brothers greed and stubbornness forced Kroc to look elsewhere and eventually be shown the land grab idea that allowed him to buy the two small minded brothers out. The brothers didn't have to sell.
If only the brothers had given him a decent deal at the start and appreciated what he did for them -Kroc would have not got vindictive and take it all.
He saved the San Diego Padres, Giant Food head Joseph Danzanky was going to buy the team and move them to Washington for the 1974 season, however what killed it was there was 15 years left on the lease in San Digeo and Mayor Pete Wilson was going to sue Danzansky for several time the purchase price and there was not much sympathy to the Nations Capital who lost two teams in 11 years.
hey. im doing a project for national history day at the state level. i would like to know where u got the commercial in the beginning of the documentary.
I have seen the movie 5 times this year. I was thrilled to see that the San Bernadino restaurant was next to Thrift Town (Market). When I was a kid our local McDonald's (South Phoenix) was next to Thrift Town (An actual thrift store).
McDonald brothers were content with a small regional chain. Kroc made it worldwide. McDonald's bros were paid 3 million which is A LOT by today's inflation
The two brothers are a bit worthy of sympathy, but in fact, with the hamburger of 15 cents at the time, how many hamburgers do they have to sell to earn $1,000,000?
When businessman and inventor are only thinking about themselves, well see kroc and mcdonald. Business is easily founded and expanding, but managing is the real question.
I think Ray Kroc invented a new and powerful way of business that changed the world. McDonald's created a world culture. His creative and courage are an example.
The problem is the McDonalds model can only work for how many years until it must adapt to new challenges. It may have worked in the 1960's, but the model is unable to grow in 2016 - 2017. 2016 was the first time in its history were more stores closed then opened. I doubt McDonalds can continue since its leaderships lacks the drive of Krock and being innovative as the McDonalds brothers. I mean come on....all day breakfast is that the best you can come up.
...I give the credit where it is due... Dick and Maurice McDonald whom with their revolutionary "Speedee System", put the "Fast" into "Fast Food"... Ray Kroc knew this when he saw it all the day he first paid a visit, curious as to why the hell one establishment ever needed eight multimixers... That's why he HAD to have it, and he eventually did!
He stole nothing, he offered them many chances. They let their pride get in the way. Ray Kroc made McDonalds what it is today. In business you only fail if you LET yourself fail. As the movie said, could tat Mcdonald brothers have sued, sure, but Ray Kroc's attorneys would have drowned the McDonald brothers in court fees.
CARLOSGAMINGHUB he stole everything. "he gave them many chances" the hell? He wasn't their boss they were HIS. And lmaooo at him not stealing anything when he's not even an McDonald that's literally the brothers last name. Y'all wild.
Lol he was partner, no ones his boss. He didit steal it he created it, what did the brothers have? Some shitty burger stand in the dessert Kroc had all other McDonalds at his palm.
CARLOSGAMINGHUB "Like in The Founder movie, Kroc proposed that he work as a franchising agent in exchange for a very small slice of the profits" -- he was NOT a partner. He snaked his way into a deal and got lucky enough to meet Harry who then gave him power to takeover. Fact check boo, before you try to cape for the scum. And btw the only reason he wanted in is so he could have each McDonalds buy 8 of his milkshake machines how's he a "partner" still worried about the McDonalds brothers buying off milkshake machines?
Ray Kroc was not the founder of Mc donalds, he just stole it from the Mc Donalds Brothers. The Mc donalds brothers just wanted it to be a local fast food place.I feel bad for them
the little cheeseburger is the best sandwich I think mmmm nom nom and the fries the best Burger King whopper yummy with onion rings and chocolate shake !! we live in a great country !!
@3urkej4mes Well yes that is correct. According to McDonald's, McDonald's was founded by Ray Kroc. When you look at the history link on their website, they do mention during Ray's story that he was surprised by a larger order of milkshake mixers and went to California where he discovered a small hamburger stand run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald and was fascinatied by their operation. Next he found out their were looking for an agent to open other locations&the bros disappear from story.
Why on Earth are they using Handel's Messiah overture as the background music for this, in a kind of jazz version yet? Is he suppose to be the Messiah.
So what did Ray Kroc actually do? But just take stuff from other people he didn't think of anything himself. Everything he built at every stage came off the back of other people. I'm glad he's gone. Worlds all the better for it.
Foolish..Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford all did it the same way.. Kroc did 100x the work the McDonald brothers ever dreamed and Kroc made them very wealthy.
He actually had to sell the idea of McDonald's he didn't do nothing plus he helped run the quality control so all locations same. Some people just don't like seeing others succeed.
3 item menu, makes me wonder if it somehow trained everyone to think shakes are the only liquid food we humans consume if those first restaurants were visited by E.T.s
Weasel, but MAN why would anybody stake so much on a handshake? He screwed the brothers, but no way can I understand how they walked into that. Different folks back then.
I don't know why he didn't just go start his out restaurant using the same strategy. It's not like they had a patent on burgers and shakes. Lack of money maybe.
No way they should have agreed to that handshake upon royalties deal. They should have said zero we want royalties straight up , fuck a handshake because of that they never got any royalties and they could have kept the original location open as well.
Yup, the founder brought me here

Andrei Sorea right people stay talking about the founder like ray Kroc ain’t try to sell fake milk to customers
Steve Carras no they don’t most of the workers don’t give a shit about their job.. they just go their to work and no if they get fired they can get a new job
It's also not fast food anymore because of the many items on the menu. And you can get better value for money elsewhere (healthier too).

This is the real wolf of Wall Street.
When businessman and inventor are only thinking about themselves, well see kroc and mcdonald. Business is easily founded and expanding, but managing is the real question.
I think Ray Kroc invented a new and powerful way of business that changed the world. McDonald's created a world culture. His creative and courage are an example.
💡
Macdonald is the largest employer in the American history.....& The only reason behind this is Mr. Ray Crock.
Respect for him.
Kroc was a business genius
The McDonalds brothers had another opportunity to copy Kroc’s model and create another fast food company selling different menu items.
after watching this movie I will never spend another dime in this crooks restaurant
Before Zuck there was Ray Kroc 😂
Does anyone know the name of that song/jingle at the beginning, or where can I find it?
Ray Kroc stole McDonalds ! He’s a pos in my eyes.
He just stole the company from the brothers it's a shame :(
@@ohio fact is fact
McDonald's nice company but inside kitchen hard work crew
Abrar hashmi savanur bullshit
The real Ray was something special the movie actor might as well been Jack Torrence of the shining
Ray Kroc Steal everything by McDonalds Brother. He was just a con man
Jokes on him, though. It's still called "McDonald's.
@@NRF-ee6cp Jokes on you, he wanted the name more than anything
@@breadworksboston7052 How is the joke on me? Are you on Ray Kroc's side? Or are you just a troll? I'm guessing the latter.
Kroc is a thef he stole the brand from the brothers
CARLOSGAMINGHUB each McDonalds that already existed before he even walked in to the original McDonalds* he built nothing.
Ray Kroc was not the founder of Mc donalds, he just stole it from the Mc Donalds Brothers. The Mc donalds brothers just wanted it to be a local fast food place.I feel bad for them
If it weren’t for Ray Kroc, McDonald’s would not exist today
It literally existed before he even knew about it. You mean it wouldnt exist as we know it
KROC THE CROOK HE NEVER HAD A ORIGINAL IDEA OF HIS OWN
He had in site, drive, concept the brothers couldn’t be bothered with. They sold out there own name and paid the price too bad I say.
the little cheeseburger is the best sandwich I think mmmm nom nom and the fries the best Burger King whopper yummy with onion rings and chocolate shake !! we live in a great country !!
Thank goodness for Kroc or there would be no McDonald's today !!!
They got .5% of sales and he got 1.4% of franchisee sales. How were they making all the money?
Why on Earth are they using Handel's Messiah overture as the background music for this, in a kind of jazz version yet? Is he suppose to be the Messiah.
Kroc died at the age of 81, not 84.
That's too long for burger man😂
Who sings the jingle at the beginning of the video???????????
smh he robbed them brothers blind
So what did Ray Kroc actually do? But just take stuff from other people he didn't think of anything himself. Everything he built at every stage came off the back of other people. I'm glad he's gone. Worlds all the better for it.
oOTyLeROo1000 THAT'S BUSINESS BITCH!!
oOTyLeROo1000 then my buddy you wouldn't have McDonald's ray was not a thief but a muse who saved a sinking ship from the McDonald brothers
Foolish..Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford all did it the same way.. Kroc did 100x the work the McDonald brothers ever dreamed and Kroc made them very wealthy.
Steve Carras That's right!
He actually had to sell the idea of McDonald's he didn't do nothing plus he helped run the quality control so all locations same. Some people just don't like seeing others succeed.
This shows Crock in a more favorable light.
who came up with the drive through part?
Mc Donald's = worst restraint
LCRMaster McDonald's best restaurant
May I ask the pair of the siblings that made 1 milk-shake 2 burger that Mr. Kroc met by accident.
Not anywhere in the text the names are mentioned.
3 item menu, makes me wonder if it somehow trained everyone to think shakes are the only liquid food we humans consume if those first restaurants were visited by E.T.s
He is Steve Jobs of food
If "visionary" means JACK SOMEONE ELSE'S ISH then it's spot on. Kroc was a piece of ish!!!
To be fair the McDonald’s brothers gave him a bad deal so he took it from them
We just youtubed Mcdonalds commercial you have to pay us we have the rights to it
Weasel, but MAN why would anybody stake so much on a handshake? He screwed the brothers, but no way can I understand how they walked into that. Different folks back then.
I don't know why he didn't just go start his out restaurant using the same strategy. It's not like they had a patent on burgers and shakes. Lack of money maybe.
In the the new mcdonalds movie, they explained that he didnt want to do that because of the name mcdonalds, he didnt want a cheap generic
Ray Kroc and the McDonald's Brothers were a match made in heaven 🙏🏾❤️🌹
he screwed the mcdonalds bros
Ben Miller he had sex with them??
Ben Miller just kidding
B.S. Only those willing to get screwed in business get screwed.
Ben Miller As painful as that sounds...it's the absolute truth...I personally know.
No way they should have agreed to that handshake upon royalties deal. They should have said zero we want royalties straight up , fuck a handshake because of that they never got any royalties and they could have kept the original location open as well.
cleanliness? that's why I can't find one clean table.
The core value of cleanliness is sorely lacking these days!
Basically he just took advantage of the McDonald brothers
No he did not. Study the history you are ignorant.
Legendary company! I want some McDonald’s!
I knew there was a reason I didn't like McDonald's. Now I know for sure.
