Great video as always. I think DJI has several competitors in their rear view mirror. Several manufacturers are catching up but DJI is clearly the leader. Nice demo, Dustin. I am a bit surprised at the short range raw, but maybe(?) the suburban wi-f-i contributed. But Parabolics WORK. That simple. You just can't turn away from your drone (when you did at the end, walking back to the takeoff site, your signal went immediately red. Didn't matter to the X8, it knew where it was going, but a great demo of why you need to keep a parabolic antenna aimed at all times. The better the antenna, the more accurate you need to be as well. And the BEST part is the bang for the buck. Double the range for under $20, under $13 if yer patient or on that side of the rock... Keep 'em coming, guy, please. I'm just learning to fly on a Bebop but looking for a 4K cinema $500-700 monster - DJI Air, X8, Zino, Anafi ??? The market is getting crowded with juicy toys in the sweet spot price range, and it's only getting better from here. (ND filters, anyone? Anyone?)

I really like the look of this drone one of my favorites. I just wish they added a avoidance sensor on the front behind that black windshield thing. Seems like a wasted opportunity.
The bottom line is very simple if you want long range you’re gonna have to Fly in a completely clean 2.4 area. All those competing WiFis don’t give any room for this drone to send a signal back. I honestly believe we should have a special signal for our drones like 1.3 ghz. I DJI Works in a proprietary system for Transmission. It makes it very expensive to produce the TX and RX of the drone. Wi-Fi on the other hand it is cheap and readily available so you’ll see that on almost every drone. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for range. 10+km yea!!

A great test again. The video transmission in fpv is not good with fimi x8. i hoped so much it was better than the mavic pro but its not. For the price ill take a second hand mavic pro. The truth is hard. Very good job Dustin.

Dustin! I really enjoy these range tests for the same reasons you do. Checking out the increasing capabilities of science and technology is interesting for me! I live in the Midwest where I have almost limitless distance over farms with just a few homes and no wi-fi interference! Recording 4K video for the whole flight is so much fun, and even though it is not as beautiful as Maui, some of our sunsets are really spectacular🌞! Please keep the great reviews and range tests coming...😃🛩

hi there just purchased one of these i used your code thanks, this will be my first quad so everything will be slow a learning curve for me i have a question regarding the controller battery can it be replaced because later on this will be a problem if battery will not hold a normal charge or completely gives up
Congrats Les. The battery should last a long time with proper maintenance. When drone won't be used in a few days or longer, try to store it and controller at half charge. If the controller battery does eventually fail, you'll need to open it up and replace which can always be done depending on how technical you are.
There seems to be a tilt problem, I can see it all the way right before you landed there is a noticeable tilt. Thank you for your video. I saw your statement about the tilt :)
I never get the big deal with landing in the exact same spot, if it gets back to me and lands within say 10 feet that's great and all I'd ever ask for, which my Fimi does just fine, though they need to work on that gimbal tilt.
It's just become a comparison factor between products. Sometimes I point out it's a good feature if say you're launching from the edge of water and something happens to the pilot. Would be great if it didn't land in water automatically 🍻
"high interference residential area" ? I think that may be in the eyes of the beholder. Come to Los Angeles if you want to see and experience "high interference" In perspective of the entire USA, I would consider you in a rural low interference area. Great performance out of the parabolics. Looking forward to more videos.
It would be great if there were parabolic dishes for the Anafi. Thanks to your Anafi review I bought one. Plus parrot updated the software for RTH height adjustments, 2.7k and HDR throughout all resolutions...plus much more. Yes..you need to do a re-review of that drone. People like me buy based on your reviews.

It's amazing that you'd mention this would even be close to competeting with the Mavic 2 Pro 😮🙂. I'd say ANAFI or Mavic pro 1. At 3X the price the m2p is much better 😂🍻
Love your videos, and think this will be my next drone as ive only started this year 2019 with the £119 sjrc f11. but to be honest im not worried about the out of sight range as the new rules coming in for the UK and i would have thought other countries under the FAA is that this activity will be illegal from November 2019 anyways as it is out of line of sight and up to a £1000 + fine lol .. bit worried about the speed reading glitch and hope they sort that before i buy later this year. but loving the flight time and looks v much .... and to be honest i wouldn't expect it to do everything as good as a mavic pro2 when its half the price so im happy to buy it.. love your stuff and will keep watching .. Thoroughly enjoyed this range test. Dustin...You The Man when it comes to putting these new drones through their paces. This IS a good drone and with updates it can only get better...better than the Hubsan Zino by far. Those parabolic range extenders are a must. Great job! Hey Dustin. Great reviews. I’ve read and experienced myself that when you fly towards the sun it really affects the signal. I lost signal with my MP2 once while staring right at the sun in its direct path.
Hey Dustin love your videos, do you know if the distance issue has gotten any better since you made this video? I’m on the fence of buying one but I live in a residential area and I’m wondering if the DJI mini might have better range. What’s your opinion? I’d love to get your opinions between the 2. I live just over 5 mi. from a controlled airport and I’m afraid the DJI may not even let me take off due to the airport proximity. Any recommendations would be appreciated very much. Thank you.
FYI I contacted fimi about the NFZ and they awnser that it only has NFZ on China. I thought this could be good info for you to share since many people see your videos, so people be more careful where they fly, a full ban of Fimi drones by FAA or EASA would not be good. BTW I'm a Airline captain for the A330-900 but aeromodels fan too. Cheers mate.
I was a little worried at first but 2+ mile range is good even though it needed the dishes for the price. The V & H speed thing is interesting but I still think it's just a software problem that will be fixed with a update in the future.Hope it's not a sensor problem but if it is it should be just in the one you have butt all and all I'd still take it for the price. Looks like they didn't skimp on the battery quality. Pretty good for only a few recharges . The next range test away from houses should do good!

Excellent video thanks. The connection will severely fail if you don’t know where the drone is thus failing to point the antennas at the aircraft. That sometimes happens with flying my wifi Spark in an CE region. However the Spark is better in FCC mode than CE mode.The Parrot Anafi will show you in what direction to point the controller without physically seeing the drone.
@Dustin ...you're making great videos! What would you say about 4k video quality compared to mavic 2 pro? .... And by the way i have another question. In Germany and Europe the situation is getting worse and therefore we think about leaving Europe for some years by then we really would like to go back to Bavaria. If you know someone in Hawaii who could need an good German Ingenieur, then please let me know! ... But i would also do any other job also with wood or on a farm because i also studied farming beside my job.
It's definitely not going to be up to the Mavic pro 2 standards. We'll see how the X8 Pro version is though when it is released. You can always find work here in Hawaii and there are lots of ranches. Just understand the cost of living is much higher in terms of housing, fuel and food costs ✌️

this kind of "things" are the ones made me change from FIMI to Mavic, no problems at all from the moment I made the change others than birds and some other minor issues) but for me it was a MUST to make that change because of the FPV with the Moverio and other similar staff. As an advice for the next time is much better if you do the LONGEST range first and the shortest (withput the parabolics) in the second place, it will be better for you heart to do that way ha ha ha ha (LOL) ; ) Good job and thanks for sharing

I got my fimi yesterday, for the price is worth it, loves your video as always, I noticed you wore recording in 4k and you recorded 14m, I can't record more then 4gb parts splitted, then it will stop and start a new video, it's bad because loose a few frames. How did you manage to do it? Record videos bigger then 4gb? BTW what card you recommend? Cheers mate.
It's actually a good thing it splits recordings in case of corruption. I combined mine in editor and did not notices dropped frames. Use a fast card for best results. Did I not link it in description?

I did yesterday 3200m whithout any loss of signal, didn't went more because I didn't wanted só I guess the CE mode or Fcc in this drone or does not exist or does not matter, on my spark in CE mode I would do 600m max and I changed to Fcc with a fake GPS app and I made 3.5km whithout ever losing signal, the fimi out-of the box on my second flight 3.2km, its cool. And the drone itself seems good. I bought only after yoy positive review. Thanks mate.

Bit of a white knuckle ride, but glad to see it ended well. I achieved 2086 feet when I flew the other day, but I shall dig out my Mi 4K boosters and give it a try.
Nice test! Seems when you were trying to get out there as signal cutting out, elevation seemed the key... Why? Just a few feet higher and you had a solid connection?? Just saying. Wish you could do a retest without the P Dishes. But, GREAT test... and RTH on signal loose was nice to know!
Hello Dustin i will buy the same parabolic dishes as you have on your video using your link(to support), I just want to know if you had to cut or change anything on them to use on the Fimi since they are for the P4? I'm using some old ones from my spark and I make 5km easy whithout signal loss but a bit laggy, so with those I expect better image.
Dustin - thanks for the great Fimi X8 reviews. My first drone, which I love, with the exception of a low end Hubsan GPS drone I learned to fly (and crash with). Do you have the little switch next to the Micro SD card slot on the aircraft switched to RC instead of Wifi? That's one thing I overlooked on my first couple of flights which may affect range.

Hi Dustin just wondering if you need to turn your Wfi off on your phone or leave it on when flying. Does it matter what range boosters you get ?or do they have to be made just for a certain type of drone
One more thing. I just read in the description on Bang Good that it has a 3xzoom. Is that something you've demonstrated or looked in to yet? Because the Mavic zoom has a 4xzoom. Curios how it compares.

The DJI ocusync is going to be very hard to beat. Xiaomi pushed a range and camera improvement update yesterday. We'll see how it improves.

I have the Mi 4K and I also noticed that over residential areas the signal worsens and then gets full bars back as soon as I past over houses.

Makes sense. No interference is a world of difference.
Should try the range test with the antennas pointing down if possible. The Evo got much better distance that way.

Indeed 😂 This spot is known to cause issues to all but a few drones so it's a good indicator even if not very urban.

Yes, I reviewed the Obtain when it first came out. It flew horrible and crashed and broke in my review 😂

It's amazing that you'd mention this would even be close to competeting with the Mavic 2 Pro 😮🙂. I'd say ANAFI or Mavic pro 1. At 3X the price the m2p is much better 😂🍻

Love your videos, and think this will be my next drone as ive only started this year 2019 with the £119 sjrc f11. but to be honest im not worried about the out of sight range as the new rules coming in for the UK and i would have thought other countries under the FAA is that this activity will be illegal from November 2019 anyways as it is out of line of sight and up to a £1000 + fine lol .. bit worried about the speed reading glitch and hope they sort that before i buy later this year. but loving the flight time and looks v much .... and to be honest i wouldn't expect it to do everything as good as a mavic pro2 when its half the price so im happy to buy it.. love your stuff and will keep watching .. Happy flying.

Thoroughly enjoyed this range test. Dustin...You The Man when it comes to putting these new drones through their paces. This IS a good drone and with updates it can only get better...better than the Hubsan Zino by far. Those parabolic range extenders are a must. Great job! Your viewers appreciate you risking your drones so we don't have to risk ours.
Hey Dustin. Great reviews. I’ve read and experienced myself that when you fly towards the sun it really affects the signal. I lost signal with my MP2 once while staring right at the sun in its direct path.
Hey Dustin love your videos, do you know if the distance issue has gotten any better since you made this video? I’m on the fence of buying one but I live in a residential area and I’m wondering if the DJI mini might have better range. What’s your opinion? I’d love to get your opinions between the 2. I live just over 5 mi. from a controlled airport and I’m afraid the DJI may not even let me take off due to the airport proximity. Any recommendations would be appreciated very much. Thank you.
I wouldn't expect to get farther than 1 mile in residential interference 🍻

FYI I contacted fimi about the NFZ and they awnser that it only has NFZ on China. I thought this could be good info for you to share since many people see your videos, so people be more careful where they fly, a full ban of Fimi drones by FAA or EASA would not be good. BTW I'm a Airline captain for the A330-900 but aeromodels fan too. Cheers mate.
Try when returning home Point the camera at the home point to see if it needs to recognize it to land on it ?
I was a little worried at first but 2+ mile range is good even though it needed the dishes for the price. The V & H speed thing is interesting but I still think it's just a software problem that will be fixed with a update in the future.Hope it's not a sensor problem but if it is it should be just in the one you have butt all and all I'd still take it for the price. Looks like they didn't skimp on the battery quality. Pretty good for only a few recharges . The next range test away from houses should do good!
Just got an update yesterday that improves camera and range. We'll explore more in next few videos.

Excellent video thanks. The connection will severely fail if you don’t know where the drone is thus failing to point the antennas at the aircraft. That sometimes happens with flying my wifi Spark in an CE region. However the Spark is better in FCC mode than CE mode.The Parrot Anafi will show you in what direction to point the controller without physically seeing the drone.

In Germany and Europe the situation is getting worse and therefore we think about leaving Europe for some years by then we really would like to go back to Bavaria. But i would also do any other job also with wood or on a farm because i also studied farming beside my job.
It's definitely not going to be up to the Mavic pro 2 standards. We'll see how the X8 Pro version is though when it is released. You can always find work here in Hawaii and there are lots of ranches. Just understand the cost of living is much higher in terms of housing, fuel and food costs ✌️

Thanks. Yep I used the same battery charge which didn't matter because the range was lost anyway. More testing coming up 👍
this kind of "things" are the ones made me change from FIMI to Mavic, no problems at all from the moment I made the change others than birds and some other minor issues) but for me it was a MUST to make that change because of the FPV with the Moverio and other similar staff. As an advice for the next time is much better if you do the LONGEST range first and the shortest (withput the parabolics) in the second place, it will be better for you heart to do that way ha ha ha ha (LOL) ; )

I got my fimi yesterday, for the price is worth it, loves your video as always, I noticed you wore recording in 4k and you recorded 14m, I can't record more then 4gb parts splitted, then it will stop and start a new video, it's bad because loose a few frames. How did you manage to do it? Record videos bigger then 4gb? BTW what card you recommend? Cheers mate.
It's actually a good thing it splits recordings in case of corruption. I combined mine in editor and did not notices dropped frames. Use a fast card for best results. Did I not link it in description?

I did yesterday 3200m whithout any loss of signal, didn't went more because I didn't wanted só I guess the CE mode or Fcc in this drone or does not exist or does not matter, on my spark in CE mode I would do 600m max and I changed to Fcc with a fake GPS app and I made 3.5km whithout ever losing signal, the fimi out-of the box on my second flight 3.2km, its cool. And the drone itself seems good. I bought only after yoy positive review. Thanks mate.

Nice test! Seems when you were trying to get out there as signal cutting out, elevation seemed the key... Why? Just a few feet higher and you had a solid connection?? Just saying. Wish you could do a retest without the P Dishes. But, GREAT test... and RTH on signal loose was nice to know!

Hello Dustin i will buy the same parabolic dishes as you have on your video using your link(to support), I just want to know if you had to cut or change anything on them to use on the Fimi since they are for the P4? I'm using some old ones from my spark and I make 5km easy whithout signal loss but a bit laggy, so with those I expect better image.

Dustin - thanks for the great Fimi X8 reviews. My first drone, which I love, with the exception of a low end Hubsan GPS drone I learned to fly (and crash with). Do you have the little switch next to the Micro SD card slot on the aircraft switched to RC instead of Wifi? That's one thing I overlooked on my first couple of flights which may affect range.
Yes, I was under the impression that was for flying with phone controls directly if switched to wifi. I have it on RC.

Turn wifi off to lessen interference. You can get the range boosters made for the x8 now.

I like how it has red and green port and starboard navigation lights so you can see which way its facing.
