This is the drone everyone is keeping an eye to put a wrinkle on Dji because xiomi is an actual established company that makes great products and is just as big as Dji. This drone comes in at a fraction of the price and is better than any other drone in it's price point so hopefully it proves its worth.

I would try precision landing that already from take-off(or at some 2 feets high) the camera would be tilted totally down. Maybe this will helps drone to "remember" take-off picture. And ofcorse before landing I would tilt camera again down. And I agree with you, for the money this is the best drone you can get. A lot of functions works good + 4k camera works very good.

One more great video! I love your channel, you are making great reviews! Just one observation: keep in mind that you are not in totally interference free area. You have cellular telephony (2g, 3g, 4g...) broadcast, electromagnetic interference from power lines, etc. At high frequencies where drone's RF transmitter is operating, clouds are obstacle to RF signal. So I guess that flying it over a sea or in wildness could give even better range results. Of course, it has no real life application comparing to your video, but I'm saying this only from theoretical point.

I'm not sure if it has changed or not. But the GPS accuracy used to be determined by the us military. In order to get more than 3 meter accuracy we had to get special permission and they had to authorize it in the system or in the satellites to allow us 1 foot accuracy on our GPS boxes. Most of these return tests are within the tenish foot radius. So that leads me to believe those limitations are still in place. Cheers
Not positive, but I think those restrictions were lifted some time ago. Also of note, this, and many drones, utilize the Russian GLONASS geolocation satellite network. along with GPS.
That was awesome Dustin. I think FIMI really has something with that drone. Now if they listen to yours and others feedback suggestions, and tend to those issue, it would be a hard to beat drone for its price. Turning a good drone into a great drone. Thanks for the video.
I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS, YOU ARE BY FAR THE BEST REVIEWER ON YOU TUBE,,, and I'm not criticizing,, this is just a thought, when the craft lost signal at 16000' why don't you just slide the parabolic dishes on at that point and see how much further you can go,,, why do you have to have 2 separate videos.... also I get a chuckle out of every single drone reviewer making a big deal out of the precision return to home being 3'4'5' off.....as a drone pilot --Can you think of any situation where the drone must come back and land exactly where it took off,,, personally I'm happy if it comes back within 50' I can take control and land the drone
I can think of many times where I find one flat spot 5 feet away from the ocean on a lava rock cliff here to launch from. If something happened to my controller or phone/tablet and could not regain ccontrol. Good precision landing would mean the difference of the drone gone in the ocean or wrecked in the lava / or worse landing on someone. Lots of reasons and it's a feature that is now advertised so it should work better 👍

I noticed another reviewer who had a fairly successful return to home with the X8 calibrated directly over his launch/landing pad, thought that might have some bearing, my Phantom Vision 2 was always off by usually 2 to 3 feet. Great stuff! Isn't it possible that if you want to test if the primary camera assists in precision landing, that you should have taken off with it facing down too? Another explanation would be that the hardware in form of the bottom sensors is there but the software doesn't use them yet until the software is finished. I'm just guessing here, no criticism whatsoever. I think you do a great job putting it through its paces.
Your right but I honestly don't think it uses it. There is a new update and the bottom cam looks for a landing pad. If you don't have one a message now pops up "no landing pad detected". Time for more testing 😂✌️

Just remember That Anafi have had a lot of updates lately With new features and such. Dustin really needs to pick up Anafi again for an updated test. Im also looking for Anafi or similar priceband so would like to see this as well
@@DK1864dizzy I agree with Sonny,I would love to see a really good trial on the Anafi.I like the material the Anafi is made from making it lighter than others and the quietness but the range can't be improved coz of the battery size for the speed it fly's at means any more range and it couldn't RTH from full range.

Great video Dustin. My step son is flying a Mavic Pro...It's a little high priced for me (quite a bit actually). This looks like it may be the one for me. His Mavic will fly 5 miles (proved from his house to mine); however, I don't need that distance or the 30 minutes flight time. The camera seems to give all the resolution I need for finding camping and fishing spots in the Colorado mountains. I just subscribed to your site. Thank you again BTW - didn't see if it needed a 5G. Thanks. It works on Android or apple and controller plugs directly into phone so no wifi is needed in the field. If you have data (which a phone should) you'll be able to stream in the basemap.
Dustin, I really like this drone. I've seen several of your vids on it and some others, and it looks every bit as good as a Mavic to me, maybe better. But I've never flown a drone, and not real tech savvy. I don't own a cell phone, so I need advice on what you need for the controller, in order to watch the first person view while flying. Does an early generation iPad work, which cell phones work with it, and do you need to have cell service, a cell plan, in order to make it work, or will it work without cell service or an activated SIM card?

I think you are right about the speed, it looks more like 4.5 metres per second, which is quite slow, not 4.5 MPH, which is VERY slow. It couldn't have been 4.5 MPH and allow you to get out more than two miles in 4 or 5 minutes!
Looks like a great drone for the money . I’m a bit curious, when you say line of sight is that referring to the video connection ? So is video line of sight regarded the same as eyes on with the FAA , just curious.
Nice drone. But when you doing more LR disco flights? Those I truly like and learn a lot from. Most everyone I no quit flying GPS platform drones and are now into LR planes which imo is way amazing! Good work.

Dustin, great review again! Thanks. According to its manual the precise landing works in VPU mode only. Not in GPS mode. It does have some optical flow camera on the bottom which takes care of it. No need to tilt gimbal down.

Hi Dustin. Great review. I have this on preorder at BG. I'm a little nervous about how well Fimi will be at fixing the bugs with this drone. Judging how fast Xiaomi fix their phone bugs I'm very optimistic! Looking at the video I notice the height readout is about 41ft for most of the flight. I assume that's relative to the TX alt? Looks like you are way higher than 41ft at 3miles out. Have you applied another update since your urban range test ? It looks like the signal icons aren't very accurate, you had good vid most of the way but red signal levels. Look forward to your review with the antenna boosters.
Hello Dustin, just ordered a fimi X8, can you tell me if the controller is large enough to hold a Samsung tab 3 8" tablet? Its dimensions are 8.25 length and 4.75 width, similar to the ipad mini I think. Love the videos bro !

Stumbled across your video, very nice video and test flight and review. Your were talking about the speed and I noticed that the height was showing 41 feet for the flight out and showing 100 feet for the return flight. Can you explain why those seem to be wrong because you were higher than that? Definitely liking the flight time. New to the hobby and my flight time right now is about 6 minutes. Running a knockoff Phantom for learning but eventually will upgrade. Thanks.
Now that you've used the X8 SE for a couple of weeks, how do you feel about it vs DJI products? Any plans for a comparison video? How does its sound level compare to the Mavic 2?
You can't beat the quality, features and performance for the price point. Especially with the discount now offered. Not all of the features perform quite as good but the X8 has just come out. Mavic's had years to iron things out and I have no doubt will too.

Fly and record in 1080p. You are going to have about 28 to 31 minutes of flight time till 10% battery.

From the video, I got 8:40 to go the 16k ft. That gives a speed of 21.2 mph or 9.48 m/s.
That was pretty much what they claimed it could do truth in advertising. I wonder if it can bind to the Fimi A3 controller with the built in display.

Your right but I honestly don't think it uses it. There is a new update and the bottom cam looks for a landing pad. If you don't have one a message now pops up "no landing pad detected". Time for more testing 😂✌️

Just remember That Anafi have had a lot of updates lately With new features and such. Dustin really needs to pick up Anafi again for an updated test. Im also looking for Anafi or similar priceband so would like to see this as well
@@DK1864dizzy I agree with Sonny,I would love to see a really good trial on the Anafi.I like the material the Anafi is made from making it lighter than others and the quietness but the range can't be improved coz of the battery size for the speed it fly's at means any more range and it couldn't RTH from full range.

His Mavic will fly 5 miles (proved from his house to mine); however, I don't need that distance or
the 30 minutes flight time.
The camera seems to give all the resolution I need for finding camping and fishing spots in the Colorado mountains.

Thanks. It works on Android or apple and controller plugs directly into phone so no wifi is needed in the field. If you have data (which a phone should) you'll be able to stream in the basemap.

Dustin, I really like this drone. I've seen several of your vids on it and some others, and it looks every bit as good as a Mavic to me, maybe better. But I've never flown a drone, and not real tech savvy. I don't own a cell phone, so I need advice on what you need for the controller, in order to watch the first person view while flying. Does an early generation iPad work, which cell phones work with it, and do you need to have cell service, a cell plan, in order to make it work, or will it work without cell service or an activated SIM card?

I think you are right about the speed, it looks more like 4.5 metres per second, which is quite slow, not 4.5 MPH, which is VERY slow. It couldn't have been 4.5 MPH and allow you to get out more than two miles in 4 or 5 minutes!

So 3mils with no parabolic boosters! Sorta surprised me! Going to be interesting to see how it does with the dishes on. Stil hope they fix the H & V Speed thing cuz I'm sure you're where going more then 3mph. The camera is very nice! Need to play with the zoom a bit. The RTH is fine cuz you can allwayz manually fix dat! So you need to do a giveaway on it after your finished doing review! 😉😉 Can't wait see distance with dishes on !

According to its manual the precise landing works in VPU mode only. Not in GPS mode. It does have some optical flow camera on the bottom which takes care of it. No need to tilt gimbal down.
I did many Precision landing tests now, see my videos, and PLs WORK 100%!!

Hi Dustin. Great review. I have this on preorder at BG. I'm a little nervous about how well Fimi will be at fixing the bugs with this drone. Judging how fast Xiaomi fix their phone bugs I'm very optimistic! Looking at the video I notice the height readout is about 41ft for most of the flight. I assume that's relative to the TX alt? Looks like you are way higher than 41ft at 3miles out. Have you applied another update since your urban range test ? It looks like the signal icons aren't very accurate, you had good vid most of the way but red signal levels. Look forward to your review with the antenna boosters.

Hello Dustin, just ordered a fimi X8, can you tell me if the controller is large enough to hold a Samsung tab 3 8" tablet? Its dimensions are 8.25 length and 4.75 width, similar to the ipad mini I think. Love the videos bro !
I think I remember it only being able to fit a larger phone. Just get a Mavic tablet clamp and you can clamp it in existing holder 👍

Stumbled across your video, very nice video and test flight and review. Your were talking about the speed and I noticed that the height was showing 41 feet for the flight out and showing 100 feet for the return flight. Can you explain why those seem to be wrong because you were higher than that? Definitely liking the flight time. New to the hobby and my flight time right now is about 6 minutes. Running a knockoff Phantom for learning but eventually will upgrade. Thanks.
Altitude is from 0 launch point. You can set what height you want return to home to be. I have mine set to 100ft. The mountain slopes down

Now that you've used the X8 SE for a couple of weeks, how do you feel about it vs DJI products? Any plans for a comparison video? How does its sound level compare to the Mavic 2?
You can't beat the quality, features and performance for the price point. Especially with the discount now offered. Not all of the features perform quite as good but the X8 has just come out. Mavic's had years to iron things out and I have no doubt will too.
