  • It is too early to see the results from one scenario. I will be using these filters in my upcoming videos and will keep you updated!
I purchased the JS`R filters from Bangood which appears to be the first available ND and CPL filter for the FIMI X8.
If you use the link and the coupon code below you can get the filter set for only $20.46 which induces all their filters.

The only reason to use an ND filter is to change the shutter speed. When images are too sharp in video, the frames are too clear. If you can get your shutter speed down to 1/60 of a sec, this allows for the shutter to work slower so you get a little blur from one frame to the next when in motion. ND filters, to my knowledge, do next to nothing for the image. They're only purpose is to cut down on the amount of light that's hitting the sensor. ND filters also allow you to change your depth of field but this really doesn't apply to drone photography unless you're really close to your subject.

Polarizing filters usually need to be rotated to the correct angle to remove reflections. You probably just had it on the wrong angle. Try rotating the filter while looking through the lens at water reflections until the reflections disappear.

  • @VictorAguinaco

With Circular Polarizing Filters you should rotate them until you reach the right angle to avoid reflections. It's not as simple as putting them on the lens like a ND filter. It's already hard to hit the right angle in a regular camera (on the ground) so getting it in a camera drone requires a lot of expertise, scouting and guessing.

I usually use an ND. A 16 or 32 in sun, or an 8 or 4 in lower light. You can slow the shutter speed without overexposing, which makes motion more cinematic. It can greatly reduce the tearing effect when panning and eliminates the prop shadows that often appear otherwise.

There should be a difference if the filter is placed under the right angle on the camera. Try to rotate the filter while looking through it towards a reflection and you should notice a difference.

Filters reduce the light source, which means the camera will compensate by raising the ISO, which will introduce more noise and deteriorate your quality.. Unless you have a specific need under specific conditions, then in my opinion they are a waste of money.. I use ND filters sometimes in lighter settings to reduce the light source so that I can have a longer exposure for a desired outcome such as blurring running water so make it look silky while stationary object will remain sharp.. With a drone (since it is moving) will increase the ISO (not desirable), and the results will be blurry video as a result of more noise.. If you are trying to reduce glare then try a different angle or wait for a different time of day or different lighting conditions.. If your video camera was stationary then that may be a different story, but with the drone moving, you are only making the exposure more difficult for the camera, and I don't see any good results coming from that..

I can't see any difference, but that's because it's cloudy. I've seen these drones with polarising filters and I would say that installing one is absolutely recommended, mandatory or me.

Did you adjust the CPL to maximize the angle of light? Are you flying at the right angles in relation to the sun?

I had my original Fimi camera glass lens broken when my drone fell down. The camera still works perfectly without the outside glass, but I am looking for a new one and can't find. Does anyone know where to buy it? I guess those filters are the closer option I have.

    Filter + auto = useless

    • @DaveAerialPhotography
      @DaveAerialPhotography  5 лет назад +2

Nope, that's not quite right. Even with auto shutter speed if you reduce the light to the sensor it'll help the shutter speed to be at the most optimal level. It'll help if you filming faster moving objects to make the scene more cinematic. Hope this helps!

@@DaveAerialPhotography Wouldn't it be better to lock the iso on 100? That way both aperture and iso are locked and the only thing that's changing automatically is shutter speed.

    • @DaveAerialPhotography

@@rafapopviolin1153 hey, definitely will try to have the iso locked however the aperture is fixed on this drone. I will upload the video soon.

    • @duskyechelon

Yup, without ISO fixed you'll get ND filter compensated by higher ISO, so more noisy image. That is bad.

The difference is in the water, guys. The CPL filter shows the waves in the water. Without it the surface appears flat or smooth. The filter's effects are more noticeable under conditions where the light is being scattered. The water is acting like a reflector and so the CPL filter is able to penetrate or filter out the "noise" produced by the scattering light.

Why do you have so much shutter skipping? Did you edit your footage in a 24fps time line?? I normaly record at 30fps and edit in 24fps timeline and chane my 30fps clip speed to 24fps then you get sulky smooth footage!!

I own the X8SE 2020 and love the drone, but unfortunately Fimi dropped the ball as being about to attach filters to the camera. I bought 1 UV JSR filter from Bangood and when i attempt to attach it to the camera it just falls off. If these filters work the same way I would not trust them to stay attached during flight. I am hoping to find a filter that I would trust to attach securely to the camera. Pushon filters will probably fall off during flight ... or sooner. IF i missed something please comment. Really a great drone other than that flaw.

Ray... I have to agree with you. I have had my Fimi X8 SE 2020 since last year and decided on a set of filters recently. They came in and as I was experimenting with seeing how they attached to my cam.. they just fall off. I can't even get them to stay on during a gimbal calibration test on the ground... so I'm not crazy about sending it up to be lost in flight..!!
