The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

One thing I like most about Elvis is that he never seemed to take himself too seriously. He was just having fun and seemed surprised at the reaction he would get when he would make Elvis moves....😎

He took it all VERY seriously - don’t kid yourself - but he knew his audience and they were teens so he was very deliberate in how he projected himself. IMHO of course.

From all I've seen, heard and read about Elvis I just can't fault him -both as an entertainer and a human being.
You haven't see me yet. but he was drug addict. that was his flaw. he wasn't happy w all he had. it wasn't enough for him.
Let's see. His hair was dyed black, he capped his teeth and had a nose job. I think this was before the nose job and teeth capping. Much of what made him was his charisma which was carefully honed on stage but was that "it" factor that kills us all.
@@mrs.schmenkman he actually imo looked better with his natural brown hair (army days). And I think his nose job was post marriage. You can see it's more narrow around the nostrils a few years after he was married. He looked amazing natural imo

Agreed. For some reason, Elvis' 1950s TV appearances have never been compiled and released on dvd/blue ray.
You'd think it would be a no-brainer!
In 1956-57, he made a total of twelve different TV appearances:
Six on the "Dorsey Brothers Show"
Two on the "Milton Berle Show"
One on the "Steve Allen Show"
Three on the "Ed Sullivan Show"
So it's not like there's no material.

A 76 year old granmy here and yes I was one of his screaming fans lol. You should see some of his movies especially Blue Hawaii. Will always be one of my favorites.
Only one word describes Elvis's style of singing, "Flirty". He did not know how to stop. I love the Jordanaires. So much respect going both ways.

The Man was a musical genius!!! He had a magnificent voice and was very handsome. He had stage presence and charisma...How did he have all of this??? Amazes me.
The answer is quite simple: just talent. Cause when you have talent, you like what you do and then charisma & stage presence come so easy as you feel relaxed on stage. Elvis was enjoying every moment on stage and the public too.
Being handsome was smth from mother nature, didn't do much about that :)
@@Andrustane Sorry but Stage Presence is not being a good singer. You have to have a charisma that is so radiant that just walking in a room draws the attention of everyone.
There's so many real good singers trying to break into the business but they simply lack charisma...

Elvis was himself on stage, feeling relaxed most of the time, knowing very well his qualities and I think his charisma & stage presence came so natural in this way.

My dad and grandparents were there for the rehearsal performance of this show before the evening broadcast so they got to see all the acts run through it a few times. Dad used always talk about the screaming 😄

I just wish there had been someone around to take charge of this guy's life by "weaning" him off his terrible diet, cooking him the delicious and also highly nutritious meals he needed, gotten him off the drugs, and kept him healthy and physically fit enough to live to an advanced age and a much longer career.
Even if there was someone like that, he would have had to have wanted it. Sadly, back then, they didn't realize that prescription drugs could kill. He thought he was doing right by them and not the street drugs like heroine. :(

He had an autoimmune disease that basically ravaged every part of his body. He took most of those drugs because he was in excruciating pain.

Gladys and 3 of her brothers all died in their forties from genetic disorders brought on by mutations from close familial DNA. His family tree is public information for anyone who is interested. His self medication certainly didn’t help, but he was probably aware of his family’s medical history and knew that he was not going to live very long. I just hope Riley Keough and her siblings get checked for these genetic markers as it is obvious that Lisa Marie inherited some of them( twins and heart disease to name two), so they can be diagnosed and appropriate action taken to avoid an early death!

When I was little and just *heard* about Elvis, I heard about how cool he was, and figured he was popular because of how "cool" he was.
Now as an adult seeing him in more detail, it seems like he was a dork, but unashamed, and played it cool, that's what *made* him cool, and part of what helped make him popular. Good-looking enough be popular, yes, talented enough absolutely. If he were either of those things, or both, at the level he was, he'd be just fine.
But the cherry on top was that he was, perhaps, the coolest dork who ever lived.
Elvis Presley was no dork lol. Presley was one cool dude. He was so cool nobody even noticed he wore glasses when not performing...
This was my favorite Elvis song, growing up. My dad looked so much like him. My mom had the 'Elvis Golden Records' LP, and I would look at the picture and say "Da-da! Da-da!" My dad's been gone almost 20 years now, but watching this video was like going back in time and feeling like I did back then.
