Glad Queen made Top 5. For me, only the Beatles were better than them.
Is metallica considered as extreme thrash? They had ballads:fade to black, sanitarium etc.. They are also not some satanic dudes like slayer, they have melodic riffs.. You even put Judas priest, they were like the starters of speed metal

I'm glad to see Rush so high on the list. I think they are frequently underrated.
They’re overrated tbh
@@jamesheath7601 Agreed. I really don't get that ridiculously overwhelming Rush fandom when you have bands like Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Renaissance, Kansas and many more amazing and creative bands from the same era.
Rush is definitely not overrated; they were a machine!

@@wolfbrother2474 what excetly do you mean by classic rock sense ?
@@liverpoollad1271 for better or worse, the sheer excess and breaking boundaries. The look aswell, Plant was gorgeous and Page, the ultimate rock star. Each member could be argued to be the finest in their field which I cant think of any other band that could claim that. The sets were nearly 4 hours long, they toured relentlessly. the top 5 band has no doubt. always them. absolutely
Because this top 5 (not depending on order) is the essential of most innovations, influence and commercial success that rock music has in the world. And that's why rock music beats any other music direction.
My list:
#1. The Beatles
#2. The Rolling Stones
#3. The Who
#4. Led Zeppelin
#5. Chicago, The Doors (tie), The Beach Boys (tie), Queen (tie), The Eagles (tie), Fleetwood Mac (tie).

The top 50 classic rock bands doesn’t include the Moody Blues???? You got to be kidding me. Didn’t even make the top 50? They were so creative and innovative. Kings of the concept album and prog rock roots. I can’t believe how many lists exclude them. I love most of the bands that you listed. But the Moody Blues are the only band that moved me to my soul. At 67 I have been listening to them for 52 years and their music never gets old. Just the opinion of an old man.
The Moody Blues are definitely top 10. When the term Art Rock was commonly used, the Moodies we're considered the pioneers, when it changed to prog they often get brushed aside in favor of bands like Yes and King Crimson. Prog rhetoric usually comes from the U.K., where the Moody Blues are not as revered as they are in the states.
I thought they only had that one hit…
Led Zeppelin only had 6 top 40 hits. The Moody Blues had 13. Although Led Zeppelin had less than half the number of hits, they are probably one of the greatest bands ever. I don’t think the number of hits a band had determines how great the band is/was. Just my opinion.
@@greggmccabe7833 Strange how that works. Sometimes there’s bands that had tons of hits back then- with almost none being really “remembered” today. The Moody Blues today are mostly known for Nights in White Satin.
@@yourcommentisntfunnyv2709 The Moody Blues had 3 top 10 songs in three different decades. Sixties fans will remember Go Now, and 80s afficianaddos are mostly familiar with You're Wildest dreams.

I’ve noticed that ever since Covid, people wildly overrate Queen and Rush. Just another reason to hate global pandemics.
Queen's popularity was boosted ever since the Bohemian Rhapsody movie
I'll agree with you on Queen, but RUSH is always underrated.

Beatles, Pink Floyd, Stones........then the rest. We can all agree to disagree, but can you imagine in 40 or 50yrs anyone will outdo the current top 5 whatever your personal choice is?
I started listening to Yes yesterday and I say how fantastic it is
Kudos for including Steely Dan.
If the Police is on this list then Talking Heads could be as well. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers never seem to make these kind of lists either
I always liked Sweet. Yeah, I know they had some bubble gum tunes in their career, but when you listen to Desolation Boulevard (US version), Give us a wink and Off the record, for me, just fantastic songs, great playing and production.

There will be more than a few ‘Muricans who hate this list. Guess Jimi playing with two Brits is the highest American on the list.
What is it about the UK in the 60’s that made such prolific bands?!
It’s the upbringing and different musical background. In the US kids in the late 50s til 1961-1962 were listening to rock, country, pop. In the UK they were listening to Rock, pop, classical, jazz, skiffle, Italian, Spanish, blues etc. They had a broader palate to choose from. If you think about it, when rock died its first death back in the late 50s, the US charts were full of the Frankie Avalons and Fabians of the day. While over in the UK a young Brian May was listening to the Temperance Seven, a jazz revival group, and learning about Mantovani. The Beatles were covering Bésame Mucho (a Spanish song) on the local club scene and Jon Lord was being classically trained as a kid. This is what makes the difference between US and UK groups, in my opinion.
AC/DC are arguably British, two British people founded them and Bon Scott was British and Brian Johnson is British and in the early days only one member of them was Australian, just cause they happened to be in Australia when they were founded doesn't make them Australian. I call AC/DC British 🇬🇧

Sure Beatles is rock, but it is more hugely successful and known as a pop band. Puttng it as the #1 on a classic rock ranking is honestly stupid. A band like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd would have made much more sense for the spot.
I don't think so. I would say some of their songs, especially the ones from their early era, are pop/rock, not only pop. If you mean they're popular well, they are, just as all these bands.
@@abandonedchannel1159 Yes but I would say that they aren't predominantly rock, so they shouldn't be considered a rock *band* per se. Just like Led Zeppelin had a lot of folk and blues elements in some of their songs, but they are considered a rock band. You wouldn't call Led Zeppelin a reggae band just because of D'yer Mak'er. I just found it illogical that the Beatles would even be on this list, let alone considered #1.
Who else knew the Beatles would be number one??
