It ought to be hard, but also heavy and dark (at least low pitched) to sound real good. The beats in thistime period just tend to be like taps instead of heavy bounces. '90s and '00s Hardcore is better for that reason, especially the '00s Hardcore from guys like DJ Paul.
I'm might come over as an old fart that's whining about the new style(s)of hardcore, but I just don't see the art in it, not like in hardcore from, give or take 1992 to 2002, maybe 2010.

Go listen to some Ophidian and Nosferatu and tell me again there's no more real skill and dedication in Hardcore.
