Just want to be very clear that there are of course some amazing beauty creators on tiktok as well as industry professionals whose content I follow and love! But like all platforms, there are those that aren’t the best haha
A HUGE part of it is - content creators have inventive to make these faux reactions and nonsense viral product proclamations because: SO many viewers lack intelligence to question what they hear and see, and instead, instantly and blindly believe what creators put out there , regardless of how illogical, senseless, odd, outlandish or plain BS the content is! I just saw a video where someone used lipstick to add color to their cheeks, and hundreds of commenters praised the creator for how brilliant the “hack” was. Using lipstick to color cheeks is the farthest thing from new or creative, and even through it’s SO obvious, viewers don’t use a single brain cell to question or think about the content they ingest. That’s why fear mongering, repeated old ideas (but viewed as new), and totally factkess nonsense are all dynamics that happen in nearly every video we see! Every beauty creator barfs up concern for parabens, and this and that, and their need for clean “no chemical” “natural” products, when they have NO clue what ingredients are or do, and also don’t realize that those buzz words like “clean” have no legitimate meaning. Then all of their viewers take in and regurgitate that same nonsense. I’m just continually astonished at how brainless the majority of beauty and skincare consumers show themselves to be! It’s quite sad and social media makes it loud and clear that being genuine, saying factual and informative things, and putting in legitimate effort into your content-are not necessary to become a huge popular influencer.
I cant even think about the whole “clean” thing without my mind immediately going to “what does clean mean exactly?”. I can’t desire something without even knowing what it is I am asking for. That said, creators can somehow make videos and give out “advice” regarding clean products, all without ever having any need to know what that classification even means?? That’s crazy!
The examples are endless, but it all stems from people being SO mindless, easily swayed, and clueless. If viewers would smarten up just a bit, and call out creators for their lack of valid info and understanding, and illogical tendencies with vitality, then change would happen and we’d all be SO much more knowledgeable and clued in because of it.
“mmLedds tri” is my favorite
period. i’ve struggled with bad cystic acne for around 5 years now and it’s finally getting better. i’ve accepted the fact that my skin will probably never be clear (i’ll still have scarring for a long time) and once i did it completely changed my outlook on my skin.
I would love to see you use your Tiktok to talk about very specific things. Either a specific ingredient and what it does and doesn't do, or a specific skin concern and what does and doesn't help that one concern. Even vocabulary lessons... like, WTF does "brightening" actually mean?? Just a thought.
people talk a big game about being 'authentic' nowadays, but social media encourages and rewards us for being as inauthentic as possible. it's why I don't trust any viral social media beauty/skincare trends.
Everything I ever bought that went ‘viral’ was a huge disappointment …. I swore to never to never buy anything again
Me either!!
I have never really bought into “viral” be it paper media or digital or social media. I remember at uni I wrote an article about how such advertisements never work on me. I was the only one in the class…. I forgot to mention it was a marketing class lol
100 true
i still stick with my og youtubers for product recommendation
8:11 “The need to go viral” makes me think of, “Stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen!” 😂
Omg yess 😂
What’s crazy to me with “body slugging” which like you said is just moisturizing your body; people claiming that it’s “CHANGED THEIR LIFE”? Have you not been moisturizing your body up until this point? I’m so confused 😅
They literally just don't normally moisturise themselves. That's why you get so many white folk insisting it's bad for your skin to shower every day. Like yeah no shit washing every day and not using a body lotion afterwards is going to dry out your skin?
I've been coated in moisturiser since I was a baby in 1993 due to my eczema. Am I a trendsetter?! 😆
I cannot even fathom going a day without moisturising and people are only just starting now?!
I mean... I don't moisturize. As a teen I tried it for my face but it made my very painful acne break out more so I stopped (similarly I tried moisturizing my ridiculously dry feet at the same time but it was too annoying and didn't help at all so I stopped)
@@vaughnhaney7020 that’s totally valid. Gotta listen to your body and how your skin reacts!
I’ve been moisturizing specific spots of my body for my entire life due to eczema lol, I never considered doing it for the rest of my body because it’s not dry or anything. My brother has super dry skin over his entire body though so he puts lotion everywhere after every shower
I’ve never really thought it was a normal thing you should do if there’s no dry skin
James, you nailed it when you said Tiktok was children's TV. Even when videos are being made by or watched by adults, that is often the underlying style.
On a related note, it seems that every 12 year old whatever the decade starts at the same place in makeup and skincare (lip gloss, blue eye shadow, walnut scrub and super harsh alcohol toners) and as they learn more, they assume its brand new and just got invented the moment they learned about it. That's just how teen minds work. I remember it well, about music as well as fashion.
Everything else, too. I've had friends that were only a few years younger than me that used to think they introduced me to a 2012 youtube meme and changed my life because I said 'lol I love that one' 😭 😂 made me feel so old
Blue eyeshadow 😂😂😂😂
Agreed
I guess that's why I'm often disappointed when I see "new viral makeup techniques" because I'm always hoping to see something new and game-changing, but they often just turn out to be techniques that I've seen/used years ago, just maybe slightly "modernized" or done with newer product formulas. And I'm not even that old - I'm in my late 20s but I've been into beauty since my early teen years. I was that 13yo friend with the full skin care routine when most of the other kids were just getting into the habit of using face wash. I had my lip gloss and blue eyeshadow phase when I was around 10-11yo.
exactly! the vibe i get from those videos strongly reminds me of what my son watches for entertainment, which is mostly gaming streams. lots of yelling and being overly excited. hard to watch as an adult tbh but fun for the kids.
This screams the whole “doe eyes vs siren eyes” trend and how it’s literally foxy eye make up
My favourite was a bunch of tik tok videos last year talking about the “viral glassy lips trend”. It was literally just putting on lip gloss
And the foxy eye is just cat eye from 10 years ago
I honestly looked up so many photos trying to see the difference and I eventually decided there wasn't one and I'd just carry on doing my wing the same way I've been doing it for 15 years now 😂
I love the pettiness bc I completely agree lol it’s INSANE how behind TikTok is from RUclips… it’s so strange going and seeing the same makeup trends from 2015 and people acting like it’s brand new
I wonder if this is due to the fact that, in general, people on Tiktok are younger.
people be bouncing into frame to show how they just discovered this amazing new thing and were so excited they literally couldn't wait to sit their ass down to film. so funny.
James bouncing in and out of frame really had me laughing 😂😂
I think it’s people coming around from pressing the button on their phone to record
This entire video literally communicated all my thoughts on tiktok lol i dont take it seriously at this point. Not that i really did 💀
Omg, fancy seeing you here lol.
I personally despise how prevalent misinformation is on TikTok, particularly in the skincare/beauty space (Not So Pretty, EWG, etc)
Tiktok has so many issues that I honestly think it was a mistake LOL You can’t even have wholesome animal videos without there being the people who just use their animals for views. And ofc I’m not talking about poking your dog and calling it cruel.
All the “hacks”, dangerous trends, the misinformation and fakeness. I know there are genuinely good people on the platform but hearing/seeing the bad eggs doesn’t make me wanna use tiktok any more than before
Tik Tok is so full of 💩👎
James, I propose a new rule for your channel…when your pup is heard barking during the video, you MUST bring your fur baby on camera to say “Hello”! 😂
I think the term 'viral' makes use of our fomo, when we hear something is going viral and we maybe don't know the item and others are apparently loving it, it makes us feel bad for not using it yet and sort of guilt trips us into buying
Today viral means more than one person LOL or creators say "many have asked me" its prob one or two people tops. ha.
I had already deleted my tik tok app but this video compelled me to completely delete my account. Aside from the concerning data and privacy terms, I was wasting SO much time and I quite literally couldn’t focus anymore. I couldn’t watch a RUclips video or even read anymore without getting distracted immediately. I cannot believe how much more productive I am without that app. If it’s that viral I’m sure I’ll see it a few weeks later on Instagram. At least on Instagram I can scroll for a few and then move on with my day. And as far as product review I much prefer a RUclips video.
Omg same here, I deleted the app a month or so ago because I was spending hours and hours on it each day and I couldn't watch a TV show or a RUclips video because my attention span was shot, 2 minutes into whatever I was trying to focus on I'd feel like my brain was pinging off the walls looking for something else to do. Glad that wore off after a while.
It made my ADHD get so much worse!
I really don't understand the constant over dramatizing in every corner of TikTok, but especially in reviews. It's great for certain types of comedy, but it's being applied to everything it seems!
tiktoks with bouncing and yelling and overplayed energetic reactions makes me second-hand exhausted😭
What is funny sometimes is the product or technique is older than the person reviewing it
makes me feel real old when I see some product/technique and I'm like 'that was big like 25 years ago' 😂
🤣😂😂
I wound up on Neurodiverse tt and I hate it with a passionnnn for the same reasons as most of this. People make ONE statement like "do you daydream while doing the dishes?! Then you have ADHD!!!!!!!!!!!" and suddenly everyone is hearing about it for the first time (like it's something new!), self diagnosing, clogging up waiting lists to get an actual diagnosis and then when they're told they don't have it, still claiming to have it because they've decided they know better than doctors, and then their whole tt becomes about "VIRAL adhd hacks" because they're nothing without it, it's their whole personality 🙄
As someone who is in their mid 30s and got referred for several NDs at university because they were severely impacting my life, its horrible to see people treat it so flippantly.
It's apparently "quirky" now!
Yes yes yes about the advertisements! I've literally seen a video where a woman said "let me show you my morning skincare routine" and literally only named a single product. Like isn't the whole point of a routine to show ALL the products you use? And then of course I go to the bottom of the description and they hide a partner tag among dozens of other tags. I tried to call it out in the comments and someone said "it's not an ad, she just really likes the product."
Maybe it’s because I’m an elder millennial, but I’d rather tried & true product than a viral one. I don’t need to buy something because it’s new, I want to buy something because it works.
Agreed. As well as when I hear claims such as: life changing, this one “hack” (that isn’t even really a hack) changed my life forever, you MUST try this, etc. When I hear those statements, I’m much less likely to believe them. Plus it’s also annoying because it’s usually fake.
They use the phrase “life changing” and then hold up a mascara 😂
Yes! or when they say "you are doing this WRONG, do this instead" and then do the most unhelpful life hack ever
i skip every single video that starts with "apparently" because it's a very obvious sign they're about to blatantly lie to you
Same. I'm like have you lived in a bunker for 15 years? Have you never heard of skincare/makeup? If you've lived in a world with internet, it did not change your life.
I've been giving the "viral product" thing a lot of thought recently. "Viral" used to reference a video that practically anyone who was on the internet had seen. I think the problem is that there are so many more people on the internet compared to, let's say, the late 90s/early 2000s and there are now so many "areas" of the internet where people only consume content that relates to their interests/personality. So, millions of people could have seen a video or product review and there will still be millions more who haven't ever heard of it or seen it. So, I think marketing companies are capatilzing on all of us collectively staying in our own lane on the internet and therefore trusting that when someone calls something "viral" it's simply because we haven't "entered" that part of the internet. The companies can partner with creators, the creators can call it "viral", and many of us just assume we're ignorant or unaware of it going viral - that the marketers are right and we are wrong simply for not being involved in that product's community. However, I do see more and more people pushing back against the word "viral" because reviewers like yourself are coming out and saying, "I live in this community and haven't heard of this product, so I don't think it's actually a viral product."
Spot on! I think tiktokers believe the tern viral and popular are interchangeable; when you could easily have a viral fail video. Critical thinking is not tiktok's strong suit!
I don’t like TikTok and I feel it’s encouraging people to have tiny attention spans and not enough critical thinking skills.
This!
I really appreciate that your content is not solely focused on products. Please continue to broaden your subjects and sharing your thoughts and experience, it makes your channel so much more interesting and valuable than others 😊
thank you for talking about those TikTok reactions. Sooo annoying lmao
I ordered a mystery makeup box from an influencer I really like on TikTok after I saw a video of her reviewing it and I didn’t realise that video was an ad for the box until it got delivered and my box was quite frankly… crap. I went back to the video and she had put the #ad in a comment instead of the videos caption, they really try everything to hide that it is an adverted
Oh no, I'm sorry that happened to you, I think they should have to put the #ad part in the title
Tell me what so I can avoid
@@bbw283 made by Mitchell 🤫🤫
I feel like there is a “typical” personality that everyone adopts on short for content. It’s cringe af. It happens in thrifting videos too! Everyone shakes their head and talks with the same cadence, they could be the same person. Not sure why they copy each other’s personalities, it’s really off putting for me, but I’m in my 30s so maybe I am just out of touch lol😅
I watch a gardening youtuber that makes great videos on RUclips, but he acts so weird in his shortform videos I had to unfollow him on Insta. I realized it's because he imitates the cadence that tictockers use in their videos and the bouncing into frame thing. It's quite frankly just dumb and annoying.
I totally agree with your view on how everything is overhyped with the use of “viral”. Another overused term is “iconic”, EVERYTHING is “ICONIC” these days. So much so that I think it underrates the meaning of the word. Thank you for this video James. It was needed. In my opinion… for legal reasons… 🤪😂
I never downloaded the Tik Tok app and never will, honestly can't wait until it fades away. I've stuck to RUclips for showcasing and reviews of skincare and makeup. And yes, the annoying transitions... idk how people aren't over it by now lol.
I wonder if we're getting serious attention span issues, with videos being so short, and other platforms like instagram and RUclips also running with making short videos on the side. I'm not on tiktok because it irritates me, but a RUclips video was showing how some tiktoks now have a split screen with two separate videos playing at the same time. That's insane. Maybe people are just so overstimulated by fast content at this point that they'd rather take in this sort of fast-paced, overdone short video content, even though the quality (in regards to honest reactions to products) isn't there.
I cannot stand the "bounce in"! It seems so fake 🤦♀️
I agree with the unauthentic nature of TikTok product reviews. As a professional Aesthetician - I do my own research but will use socials to see what's trending. I feel for consumers who are blind to the viral hype and spend their money on products just because XYZ told them to.
Love your channel! Keep up a solid content 👍
It's the "IVE JUST DISCOVERED AN AMAZINGGGG DRUGSTORE DUPE FOR THE TARTE SHAPETAPE CONCEALER, ELF CAMO CONCEALER!" Absolute crickets from the crowd, babes.
I don't have social media so it's insane that this is allowed to go on. I know people should take responsibility for their own actions. But OMG this is terrible to see. Young girls do not stand a chance with the lies because it's easy to believe because it's done right in front of you. I grew up in the 90s and we were bombarded by images but we still were able to not have it shoved down our throats like this and made to feel that you need all of this filters, clothing, hair and makeup to feel accepted by people that you will never Meet or those you see everyday. Being a person is just too hard when it's just all about going viral . Thank you for keeping it real on here. Not a lot of people do. You are so important to the influencer world. All I can say is thank you❤️
The lack of disclosure reminds me of 2015(ish?) RUclips. I remember when Here For the Tea (RIP) called it out, and it really shocked most of us viewers-we had no idea!
I do wonder if it’s that TikTok has primarily a very different viewership than 2015 YT, and those viewers simply don’t know how the influencer world works. But I do hope they learn as you’re spot on that honesty is the best way to do it!
People probably don't notice those undisclosed ads because tiktok is suposed to be an authentic and casual sort of app, so people assume that whatever the creator is saying is the full truth, without stopping to think whether they might be lying or exaggerating for profit. I think tiktok has made people in general more prone to take things at face value than any other app has done so far. So yeah, that may be why.
Tik Tok rule #1 if you don’t make the “Oh!“ face with a product review, you didn’t review it correctly.
The 'bouncing' complaint was definitely the most 'old person' one but oh boy did I feel you on that one 😆 Yes! Sit down children!
I see these “viral” makeup techniques take off like it’s brand new when I remember Wayne Goss posting a video about it like 12 years ago 😭
Bitter old person checking in here!
I cannot get with the TikTok short format thing. Too performative for me, and you are 100% spot on with comparing the reactions to those of Kids' TV shows! 😱😱😱
The bouncing thing! The way people move around and over exaggerate their facial expressions on tiktok gives me major uncanny valley vibes.
So true James, uuugh it drives me crazy when people are bouncing about, makes me dizzy so I skip it. I don't watch tick tock that often anymore and I'd never trust any viral beauty stuff. But I watch you and Robert all the time ☺️ just down to earth honest views and opinions x
I had to step away from TT and a lot of beauty influencers because anymore the content isn’t influencing creativity…it’s influencing products. I don’t want to watch advertisements. I want to learn something new…see something new…I love learning from others and seeing literally everything be the next holy grail??? It’s boring as hell. I’m not that dumb for them to be that obvious.
I work for the beauty Industrie and I hate TikTok … 🤮 this app is horrible .. and this young generation believe in EVERYTHING they saw on TikTok 🤦🏻♀️
Agree with all of this so much! The ownership over old school and classic techniques vibe is rife in the nail community right now.
Annoys me so much. Sometimes I'll try something I've never seen before and still won't feel the need to claim I created it, because there's almost certainly someone who's already done it. I care more about finding easier and better ways to do things than claim I came up with it.
Are you telling me that Brad Mondo is portraying a false sense of horror and despair during his bleach fail videos? 😱😱😱
Haha Brad's reactions are definitely warranted with those hair crimes 😂😬
Aaand this is why I don't use tiktok. It's not that I feel like I'm "better" for not using it, I just can't stand the way information is represented there in the first place. You're pretty much all I watch nowadays James because you're seriously so chill while being as respectful and informational as possible.
THANK YOU!! I've been saying for the past few years how majority of the stuff on tiktok is fake! The reactions are fake, the pranks are fake, the drama is fake, everything is super duper fake! Yet, everyone believes it's real! It's mind blowing to me! I miss when it was Musicly.. it was a really good app back then :/
I love how James's dog seem to agree with him by barking LOL
I just love when James in this MOOD
I love your honesty and transparency. I despise tiktok
especially if you look at music videos, how the actors/singers all have texture-free skin and I always wondered how they did it. obviously they use video filters! people don't even look like themselves anymore lol. i don't care if it's in a music video, but obviously when selling something please don't use a filter. edit: I love your ranty/petty videos! they're the best
If you notice this is done in traditional advertising. The people are all wearing crazy smiles and frolicking on a beach with a giant sheer scarf waving in the wind for some type of constipation medication. It's insane. People don't act that way. Even if they were constipated and were suddenly relieved!!! LOL
Tiktok is where nuance goes to die
You’ve quickly become one of my favorite youtubers. It’s so rare to find genuine people who tell it like it is with a platform like yours and I really appreciate your channel for being so real.
I literally laughed so hard when you did the bounce into frame bit 😆. It's true though and it annoys me too. Love & agree with all you said in this vid James 🤍
James, this is why I love you and your videos so much! You say what everyone else is thinking and you stand by it! I’m a licensed aesthetician and I own my own skincare studio. I love educating people on skincare and making the science behind skincare less intimidating and easier to understand because I know how overwhelmed I was when I struggled with cystic acne and had no clue what I was doing. I have a lot of my clients (and even my instructors when I was in aesthetics school) encouraging me to start a TikTok and the topics you talked about is exactly why I don’t personally feel like it’s a good idea for me. Skincare is so nuanced and I just feel like I wouldn’t be able to do the topics that I talk about justice in short form content. It’s also so frustrating as a skincare professional to see people constantly changing their routines in an attempt to stay relevant and try every new product that comes out but then wonder why they aren’t seeing results and why their skin is so irritated (I’ve been their personally as well). One of the first things I ask my clients who are dealing with skin sensitivity/irritation and an impaired skin barrier is if the routine they are using currently is truly consistent or are they constantly switching it up. In most cases, it’s the latter. I always try to get them on a gentle routine that goes “back to basics” and have them stick to it for a minimum of 8 weeks. By the end of that 8 weeks, most of them find that their skin is much healthier and less irritated and then we go from there. We don’t need to constantly be worrying about “the next big thing” and I’ve personally struggled with that as consumerism is such a huge part of our society and we’ve been conditioned to think that way for most of our lives. Just because something is new doesn’t automatically mean that it’s better. So many people make the mistake of having no consistency in their routine and also not giving products an adequate amount of time to actually see results and I feel like a lot of the content on TikTok is only causing this to be more common. When we’re constantly chasing trends instead of chasing our goal of healthy (not perfect) skin, we’re doing both our skin and our wallets a major disservice.
Yaaaas skincare queen! Hope your business is going well!
"Just because something is new doesn't automatically mean it's better." PREACH
I think growing up through the development of online technology, it makes me very aware that half the stuff online is fake. I know if it's too good to be true, it's because it is.
Good evening James. Being of a certain vintage 😏, I don't watch TikTok or any of the other social media platforms. RUclips is what I like, it's far more interesting, not hurried in any way and people know what they're talking about (mostly) .....which is more than can be said for a lot of TT'rs!
Ooooh I'm stealing "certain vintage" lol
Alicia...steal away my dear 😉.
Yes to all of this! I hate the overreacting and the constant search for the new big viral thing, I just want someone's honest opinion about the product without any beauty filters and/or acting like a kids cartoon character.
If I see another caption with “this is your sign to-“ I am going to close my eyes and never open them again. I have seen enough.
Tiktok videos with filters are so common that I see some videos where the makeup filter is clearly jittering but no one comments anything about it
James! Just wanted to say.. your videos make me feel like I'm hanging out at home with a good friend, having meaningful conversation and doing skincare together ✨️ it's a warm feeling and I no longer feel alone in that moment!
I’m glad you talked about this! I literally only use Tik Tok for following comedians and skit individuals because they make me laugh so I don’t experience the things you do
0:52 omg i actually really appreciate you saying that 😭 i get so anxious i’m missing stuff in videos sometimes when i’m not looking at it
Agree on pretty much everything you’ve said. Great entertainment but don’t trust is for product review. And thank you for sharing your opinion
Agree with all of this so much. Trying to review skincare products on TT is just not realistic, I try and keep it simple. Here is it, here’s what’s in it, I liked it or didn’t, why. Because getting into any nuance is just not possible. No one reads the captions unlike IG, where you can at least use 2200 characters to explain a little more.
I've started seeing a crap ton of undisclosed ads on RUclips shorts lately. It's crazy. It's an obvious ad and there's nothing to say it is. It irritates me so much.
Love both you and Robert for your straight talking, no nonsense content and calling all these problematic behaviors out!
98% of the viral products now start with tiktok shop creators, sadly most of the bigger creators and channels that sre dedicated to sale sell anything and will never say they don't like a product 😑 one of the reasons I started doing it as i was sick of buying fakes or shit products overall 😂
I was wondering why certain products were going viral… Then I signed up for TikTok shop to have a look, that’s when I saw all of these “amazing” products that happened to be in TikTok shop. Of course creators are pushing them!

I love watching your channel James you are so educated in what you know. I love watching your videos when I’ve had a long day at work and I just want to switch off and do my nighttime skincare routine😌😊 your the best !
Love it when you just talk to us without visuals sometimes, so I can laugh out loud while doing something I'd rather not do (e.g. meal prepping). 😂❤️
Furk I love a good rant!! ❤️ That was so cathartic for me to nod along to!!
Thanks for saying out loud what almost all of us are thinking. Love this! 💋
Loved this 😅 I love your commentary, you always say exactly what I am thinking when I watch content lol. You should have your own show or Netflix. 💜
Happy Sunday, James! It’s especially maddening when you go out and buy products based on a reaction and your reaction does not match the energy of TikTok videos. 💖💜💖💜💖💜
I’ve been a sub from the start I don’t even like or do skincare on myself lol but I love James that much I still watch every single one even though I barely know what his on about 😂❤🖤
I think another thing with reactions is, to be honest, that they more flow/come across authentic on RUclips. With the try on hauls, or trying new products for the first time or beauty unboxing, or even going into reactions to other videos or content like movies and stuff there is kind of a real time that comes with it (on top of that, I feel the personality also depends sometimes too). Even with commentary, there are thoughts, and then the reactions which seem more realistic and believable. That’s my thoughts on that.

I'm 32 but...TikTik is evil. Everything on there (and social media in general) is so fake. The entire app was designed to get us all addicted as possible. Deleting the app was one of the best things I've done.
I completely agree. I used to scroll and scroll mindlessly and became insecure because of some of the things I would see on there. I finally deleted the app and I never looked back, so happy I did!
Love how genuine you are James! I won’t go near Tik Tok because it seems like mostly garbage to me. I much prefer watching quality content on You Tube (like you and Robert).
I swear this is my favorite video you’ve ever done!! 😂😂😂The bouncing into frame had me rolling!!
I seriously love you. I've never thought of this at all lol
I really liked this video and it reflected many of the concerns I have too. Wish he included some TikToks and called them out but James clearly isn’t messy like that :)
Love love love grumpy old man videos! On a serious note I do enjoy listening you talk and give your opinion on being an influences and all the good and bad that comes with it, really insightful and can see why you are so frustrated 👋
I totally agree James, TikTok has a major problem with undisclosed sponsorships. It’s illegal here in Australia to. I would of thought they would crack down in this, if anything to save the platform from litigation.I can’t see how it’s so difficult. People should be proud of a sponsorship & if your not disclosing is it because you feel your own content won’t do as well if your audience knows it’s a partnership or sponsored post?
The social media "shocked" reaction makes me angrier then it should lol I hate it soooo much.
Ahhh 😍 always enjoy watching your videos ❤
Not make up/skin care but still about viral That treadmill walk of high incline and normal-speed walk that one girl put on tiktok that blew up was hilarious to me because she claims she created this and people already credit or attack others to make sure they credited her if they make a video about it. So many people genuinely think she came up with it And I’m like I’m 24 and I’ve been doing that since I was a younger teenager. Some people have said they’ve done it forever before her too but really the amount of people that think she created it is just crazy to me 😂
The excitement of being told at the start of a video that there isn't any visuals and you can do your housework without rushing to the phone to see something 🤣🤣 I feel old😭😅
Refreshing video!
I don't doubt it takes skill draw more attention in 20 seconds than other people... But i refuse to get on tik tok. There's really no topic that can be covered so fast. It also sounds likely that it would annoy me and make me angry at other people, which is bad for mental health
The end lol! I seriously appreciate your casual professionalism but omg I would love to have tea with you and listen to your petty thoughts 🤐♥️
the worst: fake reactions to beauty filters. as if they haven't used it 20 times before to choose the perfect angle. this filter makes your eyes blue. *gasps*
You've nailed it. These are valid points as to why I'm not a Tik Tok subscriber.
You nailed it. Great video here.
I appreciate you saying there won't be any visuals at the beginning
I don't know about anyone else but I am less likely to watch a creator if they are over the top, dramatic, shocking. I just really don't care for super high energy videos. I much prefer this longer form kind of video where someone sits and talks about a topic for while.
The algorithm seems to push the worst versions of this content as well
The need to be an "authority" on a topic, a technique, etc. etc. when many of these people do not even have a fraction of the knowledge and experience that is needed to speak on the topic with authority is a huge reason that I stopped going on the platform, and honestly social media in general. It stems from this need for attention (, which is symptom of the greater culture in general and how isolated we've become even pre-pandemic. It also comes from this need to always be right and being wrong is equated to incomprehensible, fatalistic failure, but that's another can of worms) and leads to so much misinformation. And not just in the beauty space, it's absolutely prolific across every online community you could possibly think of. At the expense of sounding like an "old man yelling at cloud" it really scares me. I live in the US, and I see daily what that kind of prolific misinformation does to individuals and communities.
Aaannnyyyy way, the colours you've chosen for your background lighting are very calming and that shade of pinky-purple on the bottom is my favourite colour.
Now that I think about it my interest is completely lost the moment someone talks about some product, I have a strong distrust of what anyone says about products/services on that app because it all just feels super fake to me. The moment an ad/promo pops up my interest is lost from the first nanosecond. Rather unfortunate for the genuine influencers who wholeheartedly stand behind a good product.
the algorithms dragged me out of the skincare world a long while back
and it seems that it was for the better
still watched this tho bc i love your rants 😂
AMEN JAMES!! I haven’t downloaded Tiktok and really can’t get with watching any of it until there is more accountability of authenticity. Not saying Tiktok is awful, just saying: I’d rather have my friends continue sending me the link to the funny shit for now, and once it’s refined itself more as a platform THEN I’ll jump in.
