    Another point with the inclusivity is brands doing “gender neutral” collections that are just sweat pants and tshirts… things that have always been gender neutral. But they play it off like they’re being so inclusive and hip. It’s lazy, and it’s boring.

      Without bashing, I can genuinely say that we've still got a long way to go on inclusivity for lingerie, especially on top. Just cus something is your size does not mean there's optimal fit for, say whether you've got more fat above or below your areola, the distribution/ shape of breast tissue itself (honestly same for undies with butt-fat distribution).

    • @kajamaybe
      @kajamaybe Год назад +2

      Firstly, imo the subscriptions give off a scammy vibe. We all know how brands make money off people forgetting they've subscribed to something they don't need. Secondly, they are not inclusive. They don't do bra sizes in my size and m&s does :) however that doesn't matter, as finally they are not inclusive as they are an expensive brand. The makeup is seems okayish at okayish prices when you want to splurge, but the lingerie 😂😂? The prices they charge for the tiny pieces of material or stockings? That's not inclusivity. If she wanted to make an inclusive brand, make it at an inclusive price point. It doesnt have to be cheap to be affordable. Of course these are just my opinions, however that is how I perceive the brand.

    • @Luna-Joy.
      @Luna-Joy. 3 месяца назад

      @@kajamaybebody type, gender and race diversity in a clothing brand has nothing to do with being affordable. They don't have to lower their prices to be inclusive. There's more affordable brands out there that can do their own inclusivity with gender, race and body type. Don't look at a higher end brand who IS being inclusive in all those ways and say they need to lower their prices or they're not inclusive because it doesn't make sense. There are different brands with different price points for a reason, they have a target demographic and are in the business of making money.
      if you want a more affordable brand to have more diversity in their ads/what they offer than fine, but asking a higher end brand to fit your budget isn't right.

    I used to pack orders at amazon, the reason why so many small products are delivered in huge boxes is because most items like that are delivered to the Amazon facility by the seller in bulk. The system stores the information of the size and then tells the packer to put it in a huge box even though it is no longer the entire stock, but just order item. And no, the system will not let me just put it in a smaller box anyways lol.

      To be fair they do not care about non-inclusivity either. VS did the angel thing because it worked and they made a lot of money. Now they do inclusivity because they would make less if they didn't. Not that i think brands should not be called out for excluding a lot of types of people but most people tend to forget that they did that in the first place because people a couple of years ago liked that shit and threw their money at it.

I know it is hard to represent things like invisible disabilities, or mental ones, but you still maybe have a model with a hearing aid or using sign language for deaf people; or strong prescription glasses/a cane/a guide dog, to represent the sight impaired. In the graphic design world, we’ve seen a big shift from the Swiss / minimalist geo fonts to the curvier, retro serif fonts in the past few years. So it makes sense that a lot of brands are going through these changes. Styles change and evolve naturally over time, but I think this is picking up steam because it is a style that invokes personal nostalgia for some or a call back to a recent past of those around us-a time when we know what the outcome was as opposed to now when things feel less certain.
    These styles have a softer feel as opposed to some of the colder, more hard geometric fonts popular with minimalism. Plus there’s a sort of liveliness and fun with some of the retro fonts that has been especially important during the pandemic while so much of our communication happened online and there was a need for things to feel comforting, inviting, and more human. Plus, technology has improved so much that some fonts that used to look like garbage online can now be rendered in a much more readable format for screens of varying sizes.

Why can't these massive brands ship outside the US or a few select countries? Victoria’s Secret is floundering & I think we’re all confused as to why. All they had to do was 2 things:
    1. Be inclusive/diverse with their products
    2. Be inclusive/diverse with their models & advertising
    These aren’t hard things to do but it’s like they begrudgingly do it cause they want people to buy & it comes off forced, half assed & confusing. Like they started making nude underwear that WOC could wear but then the advertisements for it would cut off the darker/Black women & now you cannot buy those nude items in store nor online. Like what was the point of that. Now this with the models; the models can be diverse & in full glam with wings & glitter & whatnot. Now it’s this dull, boring imagery. It’s like they can’t see past anything being exclusively for super thin, white women when they really didn’t have to change their brand at all. It’s a very interesting sinking of a ship we’re watching.

People started realizing that their products are genuinely poorly made, aren’t fitted properly and aren’t catering to what current women want. Not to mention the prison slave labour and Epstein abuse scandals. I’ve never once bought one of their bras because they simply never bothered to make ones for small bands and large busts. Wow, I must be lucky because I’ve been ordering from Amazon for four and a half years and don’t recall ever receiving an empty box. I have received the wrong item a couple times, but even that has been incredibly rare for me. I couldn’t personally life without Amazon though, because I’m a stay-at-home person who doesn’t shop much in stores and I love that Prime delivers most products within a day or two. Hopefully I never receive an empty box one day, cos that’s just shit lol 😅

    The "all inclusivity has to look the same" feels similar to the "all cruelty-free and vegan brands must be cLeAn" thing that irritates me SO MUCH as a vegan consumer. Just because I'm vegan doesn't mean I want to eat all raw and gluten free and it doesn't mean I only want essential oils and 0.2% pigment from my beauty products lmao. If something is sustainable that's great, I really appreciate that, but I'm looking for performance and range too! Fragrance is the worst for this imo, SO MANY perfumes are not cruelty-free and the ones that are specifically are basically ALL just very light and airy floral, aquatic, clean, and/or woody scents. No depth, no sexiness, no maturity, all just essentially an expensive step up from a Calgon body splash haha.

      yess, I completely agree!! I feel like it kinda ties in with the "millenial aesthetic" thing, like brands won't let people grow up or grow up WITH their consumers. vegans/vegan product consumers aren't just barefoot, crystal-loving, sprout-eating, GOOP-reading, "liberal white women" anymore. cruelty free/vegan is a whole diverse movement/lifestyle itself. luckily I do feel like you can get more pigment, glitter, and PIZAZZ in vegan form now, but seriously please gtfo with your $60 beet-dyed multi-balm

      @@trex_inspace veganism has never been like that though. That's just a stereotype. Usually perpetuated by people who aren't actually vegan or know anyone vegan. Ive been vegan for over 20 years and can confirm this.

      Yes! I'm vegetarian, but I use only cruelty free and I try to use only vegan things, because I believe that no animal should be harmed for me feeling pretty. Yet I want pigment, I don't want only nAtUrAl and cLeAn stuff. I want effective, sciency stuff. And I can't agree more with perfumes, even the expensive ones smell.. plain. Like zero depth. It's so annoying, because sometimes I want that sexy, deep perfume for evening. I know that you can't please everyone, but FFS just give us the same things that you give your 'regular' customers. It's that simple.

      @@denine5232 yes totally, I mean there are some people like that but def not the majority, especially now. but for sure been the stereotype, I totally agree. the fact most brands who's whole ethos is the granola-based vegan is the point. I've been vegan for 10 years also 🌱

      The ability of a perfume to last longer is through the use of animal products, eg: whale sperm. I don't think they have managed to replicate the technology to mimic the ability of a perfume to last as long using plant based ingredients as of yet. Although, I am sure someone is working on it as the demand is clearly there

    This video was so good! Totally agree with everything you said, from oversized boxes to deceiving packaging. And when diversity and inclusivity is the actual theme of a marketing campaign, the brand is missing the point. It’s so fake when brands use certain people almost as token characters in hopes of profiting off the “inclusivity trend.” There are brands who have been using diverse models (with differing abilities as well) for years and it just feels organic~ not shocking, not “brave,” not groundbreaking, just normal, and so the focus is on the product.

    You know, you hit the nail about inclusivity. I also really dont like when a cosmetics brand makes more foundation shades and instead of doing a compaign for a product as is it is always about shades. Usually whith a darkskinned (but not too darkskinned) model in front. It just feels so fake and not senciere. I mean, cant we just get it over with and agree that there are more that 5 Light beige shades of skin around all of us and make it normal to include a vary of all different shades?

Since finding your videos, I've changed several of my products and now get compliments all the time on how "glowy" I look. No one can beleive ai have a 14 year old son. You've made skin care interesteing, easy, and fun. Which are theee things i really never even associated with skin. So thanks for everything you do and for the content you make. One thing that no one talks about is disability inclusivity! we make up a lot of the population, yet we aren't really discussed. I'm a full time wheelchair user when outside and I have a hard time picking clothes as they look VERY different sitting down in a chair/standing. I wish brands would show what it looked like for us, so we don't have to guess.

    OOOOOH MANNNN yes excellent video thank you for bringing all this up!!! But yes on the diversity topic, it's actually very toxic and cruel for brands to rebrand when going down the D&I route, because it's basically sending the message that """""diverse""""" people =/= glamorous. Or worse, it's admitting that their brand as it was simply was never meant to suit non-traditionally beautiful people. It's disgusting, if you can't make everyone look good in your brand, the problem isn't the people - it's your brand. Thought we'd been through this with the whole Abercrombie ordeal but no we're gonna have to handhold every brand through this lesson individually huh :/
    Anyway many kisses to your beautiful dog, and thanks for the great content!!

    With the shipping, Ulta is also guilty. NUMEROUS times, I've gotten a single mascara (or smaller) in a box that could fit two PS5s. So dumb.
    Re: VS, I'm with you. The VS brand is about fantasy and sultry sexiness. Their PINK brand is about youthfulness and fun. Now, the VS stuff reminds too much of GapBody. Whatever marketing company that does Target stuff, yeah, companies who want to get their company branding and inclusivity right need to go to them.
    Please keep doing these. I love your take on things.

    Regarding the deceptive pots - what I find even worse is when the outer packaging (the little box the product comes in) has inserts or fold-outs inside so that the product occupies 10% of the box but you can't see that from the outside. So you see a nice big cardboard packaging, think you're getting this big tube of cream but then you open the box and surprise! It's tiny. Companies are literally shipping air halfway around the world to cheat you into buying a product..

    I have how body positivity almost went too far to anti-skinny. I struggle with low weight, easily get sickly skinny and hard to maintain a healthy weight. Like you said, they should keep some naturally slim models in there. Not everyone is forcibly starving themselves to become super skinny.

    As someone working in marketing, can unfortunately say that inclusivity efforts often have to be lumped into rebrands to sell them to the higher-ups. And right now, everyone's trying to pivot to the Skims/Glossier/Etc palette to hit gen-Z (years too late, imo - that's no longer trendy either!). Love Parade and Thistle and Spire for inclusive photoshoots and actually interesting branding.

    Omg, yes! I hate the new iNcLuSiVe branding of VS, glad someone else is as annoyed by it as I am! I feel like the brand Adore Me is more of what an inclusive VS should be? I don't think the average person even knows what age millennials are...it's not a synonym for young, we're in our 30s and even very early 40s now, lol!
