You are my hero!! I'd tested the fan motor, changed the relay, and STILL nothing - but unplugging the temp sensor did the trick. Thank you!! Saved me a bunch of cussing, and I will happily mark your birthday as a holiday every year now!
Thanks for sharing your videos. My 1999 Jeep GC Laredo has 321k miles. I have replaced my fan relay three times now. The last one only lasted +/- 30 days. Don't by Dorman brand. I now have new fan, new relay and everything is working as should. Glad i watched your video because I didnt think to check to see if the fan would run automatically when the engine came up to temp. Going back outside now to test that.
5-Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Did you have a check engine light with a P1491 code? After a new fan & relay last year, you haver saved me many hours of time and aggravation, Thank you!! NOTE: Afte rreplaceing the temp switch, I had to disconnect the negative battery terminal and reattach it so the Check Engine would go out. This resets the computer to clear a P1491 code.
Once again I needed your video the fan relay switch replacement went great but now the temperature switch went bad I'll be fixing it this weekend thank you for the great info again
Bro your a life saver. I had the same problem and it was the thermostat sensor as well. Blew my radiator up so I had to get a new one. While trying to burp it it got so hot it bubbles over. Now it works great. Thanks brother
Also I ended up fixing all 3 as well and the fan wouldn’t work. I literally had to cut the pigtail connector off and rewire the fan to the jeep and it worked. 💪💪💪
@mikencrew8885 I pulled that fan plug in in half , trying to find its top secret release catch , cause the manufacturers made the wires to short to get to , I redesigned all that , now it's right out in the open where it should be , so I can test it when I need too , that part don't last long with the way they build garbage now , I'll cut it up and make it easy to fix , the people that built it didn't know what they were doing anyway ...
Just wanted to add that I fixed all 3 but the fan still would not work. I had to cut the pigtail connector off and straight wire it to the jeep and it worked. So check that too
Sometimes I think the engineers design these failures into the vehicle to increase their bottom line. Ya think? Good info though. And I would guess you live in Florida.
Is this jeep an inline 6 or a v8? If it's a v8 does it have a towing package? Difference in a hydraulic fan or electronic/mechanical fan. Trying to narrow down options of my fan not kicking on and off due to temps.
WTF I’m a mechanic I have the Chrysler shop manual,it doesn’t say where it located, thanks a lot I never would have found it I’m only getting 9.5 volt to the fan
Just ran into this problem with my Jeep yesterday .Haven't been able to find any vids or info with the similar issues. I have a 2004 4.7l Jeep Grand Cherokee. I replaced both the water pump and radiator just 3 years ago. The Jeep started to slowly overheat driving down the road then the fan started blowing really loud sounding like a turbine engine under the hood. I did have the air conditioner running full blast at the time. I immediately started running the hot air. I checked all the fluids and everything no leaks. It cranks up fine but as soon as it reaches normal temp the fan becomes loud and starts a blown lol. I keep the heat on while im driving and the fan stays loud and never cuts off but with the heat on it and the car moving it wont run until your sitting Idle somewhere.
Lose that electrical crap and replace your fan with a Ford 11 blade fan and fan clutch. I installed an Explorer fan, and my '04 WJ will damn near fly now. Threads right onto your water pump.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina , it does. It RAKES IP the entire shroud, but works like a champ. I've only had my WJ for a few months. When I removed my radiator (was leaking at the crimp for the plastic) I saw the support that runs under the radiator was bent upwards pretty severely. Until I got that back down where it belonged, the fan wouldn't align in the shroud. Straightened that up, zero issue. Definitely give it a go. LOTS of air flow. Good luck!
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina at 2 am West Australia time , 30c i went and pulled th plug on sensor, and i had th fan club back, i also pulled the headlight and someone had done th cut b4 i bought it 5 yrs back.
No 99-01 go bad alot ,, it does not matter were you put in even with a small fan they heat from the inside short out from the inside they will go out more than any other vehicle,, either replace 2002-04 relay ,low n high fan relay or on off switch , hack another after market relay with temperature sensor
I have the same problem anybody knows if it’s the relay and where is located my Jeep is a 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport 4 doors! Help will be greatly appreciated!!🙁
Hello, I have the same problem, did you ever figure out why the fan will not shut off, and what can be down? My truck is not over heating or anything, the fan just wont shut off.

Great job, thanks for the info, my WJ is an 04 and I'm facing the same issues. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
Yep, temp switch fixed mine! nice work!
Good to hear!
Mine was the connector on the high pressure sensor, I'm not sure if it was dirty, on cable lose or what, I just unplugged and plug it, and it works
Thanks! This definitely saved me a little time & $$$.
Glad it helped!
Can you make a video of the pigtail or whatever you used to jump the fan motor to the spare battery? Show how you did that?
@RMD Creations, 'I appreciate the info, a great help ...& the philosophy, (Get out there & enjoy life).
Thanks for this! Huge help!!

I put a new connector on mine as well
My relay wasnt in that location. I have no idea where it is
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
Hope mine is pre drilled lol. Going for it tomorrow
Would that temp censor be in same spot for a v8?
I would think so but not sure, thanks for watching
No, it's on the top of the engine just left of the alternator

Is this the same on the 4.7L V8 (02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo)
May be similar but couldn't say for sure, thanks for watching

I have had the same thoughts sometimes. Serviceability is definitely not top of mind.
I JUST PUT IN MY 01 GRAND CHEROKEE A NEW FAN COOLANT THERMOSTAT BUT IT STILL OVERHEATS ALL ARE WORKING BUT SAME RESULTS WHY.
You are saying you did the Fan Relay and the coolant temp switch?
So u said when u unplug the switch and turn the ac on if the fan runs then the switch is bad ?
Yes
thanks it was very helpfull

Do you have a part number

4.0L inline 6.
Hi mate. Looking to buy all the parts you’ve mentioned. Can you please let me know where you bought from??
I had purchased all my parts from Napa
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina thank you!! I’ll look them up
Ps. Thank you for your video
Wish I could see the plug toes what you did. can u show please. newbie
don't want to waste money on a relay if its the fan
You need to invest in a set of deep sockets!
