Great video but you forgot to stress how important it is to bleed the system of air and show how to do it with the bleed port...many people may not know how important it is!!
Please know the coolant you used is not compatible. Need to use HOAT (Hybrid Organic Active Technology) coolant, can pick up from parts store or online. Universal coolant is not okay. I use Zerex G-05 coolant which meets spec. It had been mentioned as well how important it is to bleed from the coolant outlet. The power steering fluid almost MUST be MS5931 compatible. Valvoline meets this spec.
If u remove the bumper facia u'd have lots of room to wiggle the condenser out and to reinstall the bolts later on. It's quick and easy, certainly worth the time savings on reinstall.
This video saved me $1200 and I think it was easier to replace this way then the way the shop was going to do it they said I'd have to pull the bumper and everything but you don't thanks again guys this was extremely helpful.
can you tell me tools required, i keep luggin jack and stands and all my tools up hill. to my parking spot in the city, "street mechanic Id say and a girl. i have to remove radiator too it cracked and bust off seam. thanks for this
Just finished pulling mine. I looked at a number of online how to's for this and this one is the best! I didn't have the necessary tools to remove the forward bolts on that confounded cover underneath but still managed to disconnect the 6 hoses - couldn't get to the radiator end of the bottom hose with the cover on which made pulling it out more difficult then it otherwise would have been though.. Well done!
Stephen Smith Thanks Stephen - the Pan guard or whatever they call it on ours was held on by push Tabs - once out - they was threaded already and we found bolts to replace the cover ...... Stan
My radiator recently went bad and needs replacing, this was indeed a helpful video, but definitely is a lot harder than it looks, and my clumsy self would probably end up breaking something lol. So I'm better off leaving the job to a professional...
Great Video very well done with some humor along the way! Why didn't you unload your RPG Rocket Launcher it probably would have went easier. :^D I have a 2003 Laredo I don't know how this compares, but I'm not looking fwd to it. :^(
Thanks for the instructions. You guys rock! So hard to believe engineers dont know how to design this stuff yet. I think if they were made to replace stuff after its got some miles on they would be a little more careful.
Yea it's not fun at all . I gotta do it all again . I bought a new OEM radiator and it had a pin hole in the trans cooler that's built into the radiator and it filled my trans with coolant . So now I'm in the process of flushing the trans but I think it might be to late for that but ima try anyways . But if my my trans is toast then there going to be buying my a new one . Only had 130000 on it . The brand was FVP so whatever you do make sure that theres no trans fluid leaking into the radiator when your filling it up . It's pretty easy to tell if so . Its red atf.
thanks for the vid, I have to change my radiator, it blew up, whole side came off, never done this before but with your vid looks like I might have a fighting chance, thank you again and I loved the comedy at the end
Best grand Cherokee videos around. I really wish you had mentioned pulling the skid plate of earlier. I could have saved myself about5 hours if I had removed that at the very beginning. Would have made the transmission lines easier and the drop in way easier. All in all - I'm a fan!!
Man that was funny when he pulled the gun out.Im from Niagara Falls Ontario Canada and we can't carry handguns, unless your going to use it but illegal in Canada lol Just Changed my radiator, Had the garage do it for a couple hundred brand new .
Up here in B. C. Canada I decided to take my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee into Fountain Tire and they charged me over $1,000. Canadian to do what you guys did; new hoses also. I found that terribly expensive for a radiator that's low end ABS PLASTIC and metal grill which sells retail for $270. I miss those years when I had a 1980 Bronco; I could do all my repairs!
cigarcaptain Jim Made that wallet for me Years ago - I Have to have a Tuff one because of all the Dirt Tunnels i crawl through at night ............ Stan
Larry Carroll worst thing i ever done - dug that out years ago - now stacey was digging a little spot in there last Halloween for her scare spot under the house .................. Stan
Yeah, it sucks :( I remember on my old Supra, it was about 5 minutes if the radiator was empty. 2 bolts on top held it in and the bottom had 2 holes it sat in. So simple. This is a nightmare for a part that often fails at least 2 times in the life of the vehicle. :(
Thanks for this. I struggled for half an hour (off and on) doing exactly what you said - prying up on the little tab. Found your vid and went out and removed the plug in 2 seconds.
Unfortunately for me some of the steps are different. My radiator has both hoses and the cap on the far right (facing the engine) because it is an Inline 6 model, not a V-8. That should be mentioned in the video.
Great video guys ,by far the best Ive seen to do this job. looks like about a six pack should be enough to get through all that........but, If you ever want to buy that "a/c cooler" the parts guy is going to try to confuse you by calling it a "a/c condenser" ....just say'in. Thanks for the great video....im off to the beer store..first things first
+FixinThatUp I did my radiator on my 04 Overland In December and only removed the radiator fan stayed In. I wish I would have removed It as one piece. But the radiator will come out without the fan, just unbolt the 4 screws holding the radiator to the fan and that will separate them.
strokedfirebirdable lolllllllllllllll a badass heat gun i use every once in awhile - comes in handy more than i would have ever of thought ............... Stan
Helpful vid, thank you. Doing this myself now and a few tips for others: 1) I disconnected the hydraulic fan lines at the steering box and pump (leave lines attached to fan) instead of at the motor (leave lines in the vehicle.) Much easier access. Exception is the push-on drainback hose, pull that off the fan and clip it somewhere up high on the motor so the reservoir doesn't drain. 2) After lifting it off the bottom pins and before pulling the radiator assembly out of the vehicle, use zip ties to 'pull' and hold the evaporator and cooler up and toward the grille. Now those stay out of the way until the new unit is installed. 3) replace the water pump and hoses while you do this, $50 now is big peace of mind!
17:27... that doesn't look like HOAT coolant...
They never made a 2002 Cherokee. Cherokees were discontinued after 2001.
Great video but you forgot to stress how important it is to bleed the system of air and show how to do it with the bleed port...many people may not know how important it is!!
it shouldn't have green antifreeze only mopar or zerex
Thanks guys for taking the time to help others save money. Great job

Yeah, most people seem to think you need to remove everything. Still a pain in the butt.
16:45, let me go unload...the best!
Sandbag1300 Thanks Sandbag1300
That is by far the hardest car I've ever seen to change out radiator maybe try some Plumbers tape on bolt to the stripped not on grill assembly

Good video, but didn't have to pull the hydraulic fan.
+4.7 V8 HighOutput fan and radiator has to come out together
+FixinThatUp I did my radiator on my 04 Overland In December and only removed the radiator fan stayed In. I wish I would have removed It as one piece. But the radiator will come out without the fan, just unbolt the 4 screws holding the radiator to the fan and that will separate them.
+4.7 V8 HighOutput the radiator shroud that holds the fan is enclosed around the radiator - this is showed in the video
FixinThatUp Yes It's held together by 4 screws. I unbolted the screws and the radiator came out and the fan stayed In.
on this one - you can't do that - there is a lip on the top and bottom of the shroud - holding the radiator in between them
great video but difficult to understand your English for a frenchi ! Where are you in usa ? Nice pistol
Nice fix. Not easy. A hairdryer? Lol
