Gojira - Global Warming [Live at the Silver Cord Studio May 2018]

- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- A few weeks ago, we played Global Warming together for the first time since the recording of From Mars To Sirius (2004). We never played it live before, as it is a challenging one to play, and place in a set list. It’s emotionally heavy, and would almost “hurt” the rest of the songs in a way. We just really wanted to do this on camera for our fans. Global warming is a reality and a relevant topic, we feel it’s good to be reminded of one of the most important challenges of our time: How to grow as a species without being a parasite to our planet, the only home we have. “We will see our children growing” is a mantra for future generations, and in a figurative way we hope the children in all of us will grow, evolve, and take action for a more compassionate and meaningful world.
Global Warming, recorded at Silver Cord Studio NY, April 2018
Engineered and mixed by Johann Meyer
Filmed by Anne Deguehegny and Bunny
Edited by Anne Deguehegny and Mario Duplantier

The drummer’s ghost notes through the song are amazing
Really adds to the song
So simple but the sheer stamina that's required is insane. I haven't played drums properly in years but I'll always practice this beat and probably never perfect it 😅
mario duplantier is his name. my absolute favorite drummer~
he plays so many ghost notes, his kit became haunted
Glorious AT a fucking gojira frim Marseille
The drums. My god the drums.
Listen to mastodons drummer brann dailor and he sings while doing fills every 10 seconds. He makes Mario look like Lars ulrich

I feel like people don't realise how talented a singer Joe is. It's crazy what he pulls off here. It's like he has several effects he can switch on and off in his voice, screaming with heavy distorsion and still maintaining notes (and producing overtones I guess?). Very impressive.
The passion is incredible. Unlike any other singer I can think of.
You've probably seen this, but if not, the last couple minutes are (in my opinion) more impressive than Joe's performance here. ruclips.net/video/DrDM6V08wcE/видео.html

In my dream world, Gojira would release a live studio version of a song each month....
Yes! I completely agree. These four guys in a studio practice setting is FAR more impressive than any big budget concert happening with so many effects and gimmicks.
In my dream world, we all become sensitive to how we influence each other and we all make sick ass art.
Same here yo, but they would also do a few Metallica covers. I crave Master of Puppets by Gojira, Joe's vocals and Jean-Michaels slightly lower tone of the guitar and Mario's skill as well as Christians energy would amplify the song by a million.
They totally could too haha. When they're not touring that is
I want a girl that looks at me the way the band looks at the drummer.

Mario, your speed and precision is unmatched. Truly one of the greatest drummers of all time.
Alex Smith Perks of having a jazz drummer as your teacher
I think he means that only through playing jazz can you learn the odd time signatures that Mario employs in his art
Saqqara King I'm not throwing shade. Just saying that it's an advantage to have a jazz drummer as your teacher. I know Mario is talented and very hard-working, we can see it in his double bass technique(which is very uncommon in jazz) at which he's a master.
He's doing it with such ease. Just look at 3.05. He does not even seem bothered, which kind of scares me. If I even was able to play like that, I would probably make the weirdest faces trying to not mess it up. Mario is just such a beast and an inspiration!
I bought your ezdrummer pack, so now i can pretend im jamming with you....lol
400,000 years ago, Mario and Joe came to this planet from outer space.
I wouldnt doubt it.
Straight up. I always had the sneaking suspicion about these guys..
Not only Joe and Mario, the whole band is insanely good.

@Scott Heslin Get out of 2009 man.
This is by far the best song to end a album. I think if you listn to From Mars to Sirius from start to end, its kind of a journey, a experience you have to make.
That album feels like a spiritual journey through space. One could say it's a journey from Mars to Sirius. ;)
Complètement
I wish I could experience this amazing trip again like the first time I heard this album, it's perfect a truly masterpiece.
It’s truly life changing man I would give a lot to be able to experience all their music again for the first time I absolutely love it
What I really like is how grounded this song feels compared to the others - the rest of the album is filled with metaphors (The Ocean Planet, the Flying Whales, the move From Mars to Sirius, etc.) but this song says it how it really is on our planet, beautiful ending that is both dark but also filled with hope: “we will see, our children growing”

**removes cocks from mouth** - "what did you just say!?"
4:38 I love the bass at this part, it's kinda like it's singing "we will see our children growing" before Joe does.
The bass plays that in the intro as well, or a slight variation of it. I love how Gojira foreshadows and contextualizes like that. Makes each song feel complete and well thought out.
THANK GOD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THINKING THIS BASS IS SINGING!!!
But i will be the only one hearing Joe Duplantier singing when i hear the Riff at the very beginning..
Haha, you're right! Cannot un-hear it now either.
YEAH I GUESS THAT WAS THE POINT OF COMPOSING IT LIKE THAT
The bass does a little foreshadowing of the coming melody change and I love it.
Lyrics:
Four hundred thousand years ago
They came from outer space
And gave us life here
We are taking everything for granted
I don't think we should do this now
And when I see the smoke all around
I feel like I'm now
From humankind down there
I feel like glaciers are my eyes
And mountains are my head
My heart is ocean
And I feel all alone
Because everybody's wrong
I feel the living
What is this thing that we call hate
And that's inside of me
Get out of here!
A world is down
And none can rebuild it
Disabled lands are evolving
My eyes are shut, a vision is dying
My head explodes
And I fall in disgrace
I hold my inner child within
And tell him not to cry
"don't fear the living"
One day you will stand as a king
And now fear can erase
This light below us
Each one of us is now engaged
This secret we all have
This truth is growing
And as a warrior I have to fight
I can already feel
The love I'll discover
I had this dream, our planet surviving
The guiding stars always growing
And all the worlds
The fates all the countries
They're all rebuilding at the same time
I never fell and always believed in
We could evolve and get older
Open your eyes and let all this flow
Now see a now hope is growing inside
We will see our children growing
Enjoy :)

400 000 years ago? Someone please explain.
@@wayde5545 You unedited comment was "4000 years? Someone please explain. Are they Christians, or maybe scientologists?"
To answer the question, as far as I know it's neither. I highly doubt they're scientologists, because it would've been shoved down our throats to join over & over again by now.
As for being Christians? There are christians that don't go along with the normal Bible's creation story. Instead you have the Big Bang happening 13.8 billion years ago, the Earth was created 4.5 billion years ago. But the one who created the universe & everything in it was 'God'.
As for the significance of 400,000 years, that would be that it is theorised that the Homo sapiens species (Us) diversified from our evolutionary ancestors & became our own species around this time.
There's a lot of talk about "the missing link" between the ancient proto-humans & what eventually became us. We haven't found the remains of what links our theorised ancestral species & the species that eventually became us.
This is something that deniers of the Theory of Evolution like the latch on to & insert conspiracy theories, religious explanations, or like in this example, suggest that there may have been outside interference by an intelligent species.
@@TheLonelyBrit I think the 400.000 years references panspermia, basically that life came frome somewhere else in the universe and landet on earth some time ago. 400.000 years is more of a placeholder.
This ghost notes may be haunting the studio till this day!
Best metal band in history. Most innovative band. Musicianship. Heavy. Influential. I just can't explain how I feel when I listen to Gojira...and then you have videos like this. I'm just so grateful I can enjoy them. Thank you, Gojira.
I completely agree.
KC Deportes Most elitists would never put them among the classics, but i dont give a shit. One of the best bands ever.
Lightbringer They sound heavier than your favorite band will ever sound. No band I've seen has the low end and the tightness Gojira has. Elitists in 2018 are a dying breed fortunately.
I actually slightly mis-read this, i wouldn't agree that they're the best in history, i think that's too subjective. They are brilliant though.
The Batman And that's how it should be. YOU enjoy a band/whatever. YOU are feeling. That's the important thing.
the ending part is so emotional, right in the feels
This is incredible. Joe's voice is on point, it is evolving, he is now a master of clean singing, it is powerful and emotional. His growl voice has changed since Magma, and I am diggin' it so hard. Incredible performance, shivers down my spine.
certainly a different sound, luckily while others musicians loose something, this still sounds pleasant.

Hockyy Changed since Magma? It’s still a new album, more or less

Absolutely love Mario.
It’s a fun song to play on guitar. But rhythmically it’s challenging
Francis Marceau dude born in winter kills my hands every time with the tapping
My hat's off to the bassist. It takes a high level of taste and restraint to play only simple things firmly, in the midst of virtuosi running incredible techniques; without trying to "compensate upward" to run with them. Rick Laird, from Mahavishnu Orchestra, was great at this; his patience and focus were truly profound. This gentleman here is very close to Laird's level. Well done.
Yes!!! Jean -Michel doesn't get the credit he deserves I think. He is an awesome bassist. Thanks for pointing that out!
And he's absolutely a virtuosic bassist in his own right, but his greatest skill is knowing and perfectly maintaining his place in a song. But he can totally turn it up to 11 when the need arises.
Who’s been here since way before GOJIRA played the 2024 Olympics?
Since Terra Incognita brother.
2008 when I saw them open for In Flames. Been a fan since.
Mario can drum such fast, heavy, hard hitting, complex patterns but what separates him from the rest is how fucking fluidly he puts it all together. Its poetry in motion. He just floats across the kit, its like the drum set is an extension of his body. Everything just sounds so natural and human. Everything from his ride technique to his kick technique...I could fanboy on Mario for hours

This track gets more relevant by the day, terrifying
It really is terrifying, if we dont make a huge change anytime soon it will be catastrophic. Most coastal cities all over the world will be under water by the year 2050, big parts of south america and africa will be uninhabitable and human life expectancy will also drop all over the world. We've got a scary future ahead of us.
@@moneton8627 @South645 A island in the Bahamas is no 70% under water.
@cody industries Im not saying that it's carved in stone, all im saying is that if we dont change anything and keep going the way we already are, those things will happen. It's easy to sit and think that it all just overexaggerations, but it really isnt.
@cody industries It's gonna take a whole lot more than "some trees" to make things right. Scaring people is actually the way to go here, even if we might be somewhat alright in OUR lifetime we will still ruin so much for the future generations if we keep living in ignorance.
@cody industries It isnt for no reason though, you just dont want to understand how serious climate change is. I recommend you to look into the matter a little bit more before dismissing it as no big deal.

A lot of their songs are using effects and whatnot, but they still manage to play them live... Plus in Born in Winter there are two vocal tracks, one calm, and the other using his screaming voice. I'm pretty sure they could at least try and do the screaming version.
he said they don't do it live because the low notes get too muddled up with the instrumentation. It's hard to perform live but in a more controlled environment like this, it's not too difficult.

Juan Camaney They're pretty good. The eight-string stuff seems to work with their style, yet it kind of makes their overall tone less stellar imo. Fun to deadlift to, though.
Everytime I listen to the album version I realize this version is how this song was meant to sound.
If I had the power to give immortality to just one band, it would probably be Gojira. God, I hope this band never disbands or goes on hiatus!
I still can't be grateful enough to the day I found about these guys 2 years ago! This band has changed the way I feel about music.
Drake Parker I'd give it to Iron Maiden.
Drake Parker I love gojira, but this would be tough, I’d either give it to between the buried and me, Periphery, the contortionist, or gojira
They're basically boring as shit now...great first three albums but got nothing to follow it up with...style gets old real quick
Drake Parker so true
Anyone else notice how well the bass compliments Joe’s voice on the “we will see our children growing” part??? 😳
Um, the bass and the voice are doing the same thing yes, it's pretty obvious lol
Yolo Falos Okay... Well they don’t match up through the rest of the song... Which I’m sure is pretty obvious to you..
@@AttilatheThrilla The bass and the voice are doing the same melody only and the end yes, good on you for noticing it, I just think it's pretty obvious
@@HijoDeDios999 He said that it matches up very well together, that's all, and that's the point, he expressed his feeling about it, not pointing out that he discovered something.. people are silly sometimes in the comments
People who think metal is sound.....
I just don't care for what they are missing out on anymore, this is the most beautiful song I've ever heard
...didn't know they allowed porn on RUclips.
🤘🏼Merci Gojira.
Ray They don't. This just be a mistake..
Mesmerizing music.
And I love the fact that they focus on real problems, Metal is is more than just blasphemy and hate.
Music and education is the power of knowledge!!!
We are more than just humans surviving in this world.
"More than human surviving in this world" I hope so
One of the many reasons why i love this band. They're socially minded as it should be
Yeah I think perhaps too many people out there who don't usually consumed metal music get the impression that most if not all metal music is just black metal from wanna be edgelords featuring unintelligible vocals and and lyrics focused on death, etc.
Metal may not be mainstream enough to get radio play like the billboard's top 100 but there are a lot of great metal acts out there that don't conform to those kind of stereotypes.
this would be a relevant topic on this video if global warming were an actual issue.
I listen to these guys pretty regularly now, but what you like about them is what I hate. I don't need life lessons from my metal music. Save the water carrying for the system. These lyrics are like listening to hall monitors with drop tuned guitars in the background.
"We will see our children growing." This is so powerful.
Huh, I always thought it was Glowing. Which, ya know, in context...kinda fit and I never thought about it again
FINALLY 😍😍😍
My favorite band
My favorite band of all time, seeing this performance on what is probably my favorite from the record is a privilege and it is completely beautiful in every aspect of its existence.
gojira is perfection Good profile picture bro, lol
I'm amazed they could play this live without tears streaming down their cheeks.
No,I'm not crying.😭
because they are not pusses that's why
Gojira is not a simple band, they carry a philosophy as deep as their love for our planet, we should learn from them, for my part i consider them as way more than just a band that creates music, they are beyond that
Absolutely
I think the same about Tool...
Yeah. They're fucking awesome! See them live - it's absolutely worth it.
Both Gojira and Tool this summer at Hellfest \m/
I have been interested in climate change, global warming, and environmental issues (pollution, biodiversity...), since the end of the 90s. At that time, nobody among my relatives (family, friends) felt concerned by this. They considered me as an anxious teenager.
When I discovered this band in 2005 (From Mars to Sirius album), I was totally amazed that a metal band (a French one, and a very talented one, moreover!) could write a song about global warming at the time. Almost 20 years later, I am a father of 2 children, and the lyrics of this song seem even more meaningful to me.
I discovered then that many of Gojira songs talk about environment, future of our planet and humankind.
Gojira is not only one of the best metal bands right now, but they were also pathfinders 20 years ago.
PS : Please forgive my bad English, I am French, and my level in English is much weaker than Joe Duplantier ;)
Better than the album recording! Bad ass. 4:40 is just sick
I actually heard this version first and much prefer it
Well that was fukin amazing
This makes me want to cry every single time I hear it
I had this feeling when i was listening to shooting star
I was literally blocks away in my apartment when this happened. I wonder wtf I was doing at that moment. For no other reason than curiosity. It's so weird to think that greatness is happening so close.
I keep coming back to this video all over again. I can't do anything else than respect and admire the skill of this whole band. Especially Mario and Joe, I just love how you can see the way they feel the music. Just amazing.
Here his scream sounds aggressive with a bit of pain
If the next album is this voice with FMTS writing with magma production, I’ll cream my pants.
that's me everyday finding out we still have a climate catastrophe
This is one of the greatest songs I have ever listening to in my life.
Fantastic, isn't it? Try Ocean Planet, not great as this much but fantastic and addictive.
Gojira - Born in Winter [Live at the Silver Cord Studio Feb 2020]
What
So, you know my brother too ? Because that's his song.
It's been said, but this band is the best metal band on the planet and have been for longer than I've known they exist. Existentially vital listening.
Sérieux les gars, cette version déchire encore plus que celle de l'album qui était déjà incroyable. L'émotion que vous dégagez est palpable... Merci !
best song of From Mars to Sirius can i get an amen
amem meu irmão
Amen
Amen
Where dragons dwell still is my personal favorite, but still you get half an amen:
Am
i would put it second place, fying whales is waaaaay too much hype for me
Most people are commenting metal is dead. No. This music just got not as much as exposure like pop music.
Thank you Gojira.
One of the best bands on the planet.
One of the best?? This is the best band in the universe. No other band approached their level
Magdalena Wysocka Tool. No disrespect to Gojira, I'm a huge fan, but Tool is god tier.
Opeth?
Oh shit........ His voice...... His growl.... I wish I could had those.....
I listen to this song every morning before getting to work for almost two weeks. Its getting better with every listening
i can exactly feel this struggle every morning but gojira helps me to deal with this fucked up feelings
I still remember hearing this for the first time. I was with my two best friends and they played this randomly and right then I felt like my life was changed forever.
If the drummer is the chillest one then you khow the band is lit🔥🔥
You know a band is good when they sound basically identical live compared to the studio album.
better lol. you can visually understand the emotion
Agree, this is actually better than album version.
@@Mossige89 Theres a live version of Gift of Guilt from a Brixton show I think. Its so much better, I can't even listen to the album version now
this is even better XD
@@Menomena20 lol same, these guys are just simply amazing!
That is just true perfection.
Fire 🔥 Mario is a Beast on those drums
Joe's vocals are so powerful goddamn
Just found out about this band.... and my experience is fucking glorious. It's been a little bit since I've found new stuff I like. Every song I've heard is super heavy and fucking awesome.
That feeling, when you discover them is just awesome. The same happened to me 4 years ago.
The same happened to me 13 years ago !! I have lost touch with metal but something about this band makes me keep coming back to it. This sounds soo good after such a long time since it's release !!
I discovered them live at the Heavy MTL in 2012. My biorythm got tuned by the blast of that wall of speaker. I aged 400 000 years
Same here
