Anyone who was skeptical of Magma when it first came out and thought that the album wasn't heavy enough and a departure from the Gojira sound is probably walking in shame these days. This album was phenomenal and every single song has been a must to see live at shows.
Magma is great for the shows because unlike their other albums there's no (that I can remember) multitracking of the guitars. On the album it won't sound as heavy as From Mars to Sirius where there's 20 guitars mixed to sound heavy as fuck, but live where they only have 2 guitars to work with it really shines.
My personal issue with the album was and still is the sound of drums. It's great by itself, but in the context of Gojira's discography it sounds a bit out of the place. Not as powerful as I'd expect it to be. On the album I hear more heads (plastics) of Mario's drums than their body. Just listen to the intro of Low Lands: we hear sound that is caught by room mics and Mario undoubtedly plays very powerfully as always, he hits hard and his snare makes this rifle-like sound. But then as the song moves on sound-engineer "hides" the body and puts heads on the front, the power is lost, that's why the overall sound of the band is less heavy. We can compare this version of Pray with great sounding drums and album version with Ok (by Gojira standarts and my feeling of the band) drums. The difference is obvious imho. And yeah, Gojira kicks ass🤘One of my all time favourite. Magma isn't soft at all, especially emotional-wise.

PRAY *Like the majority of the songs on the album, Pray is about the pain and sadness that both Joe and his brother Mario have gone through as a result of their mother’s passing. Pray is about the desperation one goes through when hoping for something worse to get better, whether it be bad weather, or a close loved one is unwell.* we pray, pray for the light to reign we call, we call the day we rise, pray for the wind to blow we know, we know the way *Their mother is sick during the writing process, and they are praying for her to get better, the light from day, and wind blowing are all symbols of life, its a metaphor for how they are hoping for and praying that their mother gets better.* no faith in your world create my own to thrive *There are multiple double entendres in these lines. Faith could mean religion, or it could mean trust. In the second line, is the protagonist creating a world or faith? And if it’s faith, which definition? Religion or trust? All of these could make sense given the overall theme on the album of dealing with the death of a loved one* no faith in your world create my own to thrive we pray, pray for the light to reign we call, we call the day *Their mother is sick during the writing process, and they are praying for her to get better, the light from day, and wind blowing are all symbols of life, its a metaphor for how they are hoping for and praying that their mother gets better.* no faith in your world create my own to thrive no faith in your world create my own to thrive go, go, go we rise, pray for the wind to blow we know, we know the way *Their mother is sick during the writing process, and they are praying for her to get better, the light from day, and wind blowing are all symbols of life, its a metaphor for how they are hoping for and praying that their mother gets better.*

while not being the biggest of Gojira fans, I just cant comprehend how anyone can down-vote this video. Simply put - this is a great song. And damn, that soundboard audio track is epic!
I agree. Having grown up around the metal of the 80's, which was good stuff, but always with so many guitar notes involved, I find this style of metal where the guitar lines, not simple, but more minimalistically designed for effect (played perfectly by these guys, as well), enjoyable and more encouraging to me as far as picking up my guitar and playing for a bit. Let the drummer have to remember all the notes.
Gojira is hands down my favorite band of all time. The power and depth of the sound you guys put out still continues to shake me to my core with each new album. I love it
I honestly love the album version more even though it’s a shorter song. However,it’d still be really cool if they released this 9-10 minute version of the song as well. Whether it’s a live performance or a studio recorded version.
Just out of curiosity, do you prefer the album version because its shorter or do you just not like the extension? I think this version is just a crowd pleaser, something you listen to every once in a while but frequently listen to the album version.
@RazerUltor OptimusMaximus it’s a few different things. I honestly do love longer songs and it’s usually a nice bonus to me,but how they extended this song isn’t really something I love. I think they could’ve done something more fitting and developed the song further than what they did here. I also think the transitions in and out of the bridge could’ve been a little better too,but that’s just me. And if you want to go into how it fits in the album,I think the shorter version definitely fits better in that context. Some of this could be a bit nitpicky and I totally understand that, but that’s why I like the original/album version better.
having listened to this, (first) and then went to the studio version., IMO just doesn't compare. can't. this version ruined it for me, this one, IMO is just much better.

The drummer is a machine, all of them are in a zen like state when performing on the stage, they as a whole keep on getting better, they always suprise me with their sound they put out.
@@richardseidler9658 SERIOUSLY!
Complètement !
Your tractors don’t have that power?
It's mostly the show, not the music.
PRAY
*Like the majority of the songs on the album, Pray is about the pain and sadness that both Joe and his brother Mario have gone through as a result of their mother’s passing. Pray is about the desperation one goes through when hoping for something worse to get better, whether it be bad weather, or a close loved one is unwell.*
we pray, pray for the light to reign
we call, we call the day
we rise, pray for the wind to blow
we know, we know the way
*Their mother is sick during the writing process, and they are praying for her to get better, the light from day, and wind blowing are all symbols of life, its a metaphor for how they are hoping for and praying that their mother gets better.*
no faith in your world
create my own to thrive
*There are multiple double entendres in these lines. Faith could mean religion, or it could mean trust. In the second line, is the protagonist creating a world or faith? And if it’s faith, which definition? Religion or trust? All of these could make sense given the overall theme on the album of dealing with the death of a loved one*
no faith in your world
create my own to thrive
we pray, pray for the light to reign
we call, we call the day
*Their mother is sick during the writing process, and they are praying for her to get better, the light from day, and wind blowing are all symbols of life, its a metaphor for how they are hoping for and praying that their mother gets better.*
no faith in your world
create my own to thrive
no faith in your world
create my own to thrive
go, go, go
we rise, pray for the wind to blow
we know, we know the way
*Their mother is sick during the writing process, and they are praying for her to get better, the light from day, and wind blowing are all symbols of life, its a metaphor for how they are hoping for and praying that their mother gets better.*
Have always been addicted to the gigantic dynamics of Gojiraaa.....
quand tu vois ça, l'ambiance qu'ils peuvent créer en live comme en studio, le niveau de précision, les détails mélodiques et rythmiques... tu te dis "c'est quand même quelque chose Gojira", très content.e de les connaître...
Impressionnant !!! Vive Gojira !!!!!
I was at this show. Devin Townsend project (transcendence line up), Gojira & Opeth. To this day nothing can top this show for me!
The Trifecta! Would have been amazing to see!
Fantastic sound
I miss this version of Gojira! The band that would jam on a riff for like 5 more minutes live! It's so cool that they saved something this special for Red Rocks
while not being the biggest of Gojira fans, I just cant comprehend how anyone can down-vote this video. Simply put - this is a great song. And damn, that soundboard audio track is epic!
Awesome song all around, the drumming really stands out and seems to be the driving force of this atmospheric groove engine.
I think I could drive really far with this jam kicking in a loop although I'd probably get a speeding ticket.
The sound guy needs a grammy for his service to help create this.
Wow... my mind is blown. This is absolutely beautiful and magical sounding. It must have been an insane experience to hear live.
Never gets old🤘🏽
Un véritable orgasme auditif 😍 Quel kiff !
Gojira is hands down my favorite band of all time. The power and depth of the sound you guys put out still continues to shake me to my core with each new album. I love it
Almost as good as the extended version of where dragons dwell from hellfest...almost
I was in attendance that magical night and goes down as one of my favorite concerts. I hope the band decides to release the whole show again
This recorded audio is almost as good sounding as studio quality recordings
@Pedro Chinito I agree there. With Gojira it makes little to no difference whether it’s a studio recording or live recording.
having listened to this, (first) and then went to the studio version., IMO just doesn't compare. can't. this version ruined it for me, this one, IMO is just much better.
I absolutely love listening to this and imagining what it must be like for the band to experience this as it happens. The smiles on their faces say it all.
This was the best outro ever!
