This is great, I’ve found Huston to be very well rounded- intellectually, spiritually, and experientially. The more I learn about his life the more my respect and interest grows. If he had a flamboyant personality he probably could’ve been some kind of “guru” or group leader but I think he was too self effacing go that route. I really like that while he is kind and spiritually inclined he doesn’t sugar coat anything, I like that he admits the temporal world is a limited, low level of existence compared to higher realms that are just as real yet closer to God. I didn’t realize he’d written so many books, the one you mention here I’ll have to find.
As far as hope goes, I try not to put my hope in much of anything. I simply try to accept things as they are. Most of life is out of my control anyway. Why worry about things that are out of my control? Progress? I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it. I was fortunate enough to live my life in a time and place where progress has made life relatively easy. Had I been born in another place or another time I am fairly certain that I would have been just fine. There are three things that I know for certain. We are born, we live a while, and then we die. I like what Will Rogers had to say about it all. "Do the best you can and don't take life too serious".😊

Thanks for that wisdom. The Rogers quote reminds me of a favorite from Oscar Wilde: "Life is too important to be taken seriously."
