Great educational video. These locks are hard to explain how to pick, but this made it easier to understand. You are much better at teaching than either LPL or BB in my opinion 👍
You sure? There was a finland guy in the 1800s that picked classics. They were known as being pick resistant, and if you look at a modern dd lock like protec2, it too is thought to be unpickable.
@@tarehjernetarehjerne4082 1800, nice typo there :) You're what, only the second person to pick/gut an Abloy Protec2 on camera? I doubt anything is unpickable to you any more.
Koncrete i said thought, not that they are pick proof. Yes my video is the 2nd video on RUclips, but it has been picked plenty. They are hard, but not impossible.
Tarehjerne Tarehjerne let’s cut it down to it is still not something the average burglar would attack to save time as alternative to breaking the door or a window. But before the internet it was even harder to get info as well as tools for picking.
Amazing job on the homebrew disc detainer pick! I wonder if we will ever see a release of the pick that LPL and BB designed. The one sparrows made them and sent out looked pretty nice. First time I have seen a cut away disc detainer lock. Thanks for sharing that with us!
I'm waiting on sparrows tool to start DD locks! I gotta start at the beginning though like getting a clear practice lock. I know nothing about DD locks at all!!!
Happy New Year! I think you've convinced me to put cheap DD lock picks on my shopping list. I was originally waiting for "The Tool That Bosnian Bill And I made" but this looks like too much fun to stay away from it for much longer. Great work. And no, I don't mean that in a sarcastic manner
Hahaha I should really start looking what I've put before pressing send lol. It should have said " nicely picked well done, can you please tell me the thickness of the pick tip"
I think that demo lock has a demo biting. Btw locknoob the disc lock is talked about in the cen grade system. That is where I heard about the issue you get if you drill the core and if it is true maybe that is why the core has no drill plate on it.
Your modified pick seems to work a treat. Great explanation on picking a DD lock. They look easier than they are to pick in reality. Almost Happy New Year 2020 😁
Are you sure that lock can't be picked from the first disc as well? Because if it is I have a nice modification for those Chinese disc detainer picks with the blue handle.
@@LockNoob It's the same for my Abus Plus cores: First and last disc seem to have a 0 cut. You can drill all the way through the blue handle so that you can move it up and down on the outer tip shell and set it with the set screw at whichever height you want. You can flip the blue handle by 180 degrees so that the set screw is on the other side to get more range out of this. This way you can set it up so that the blue handle sits flush on your lock and the outer tip engages exactly with the first disc and tensions it and you pick with the inner (front) tip (which you have to file down to be narrow enough to pick with). I picked an Abus 37/60 Insurance lock with this yesterday. Then I wanted to make a video and the front tip became loose, so I have to fix that first (probably soldering it?) Anyway, I think it's the best shot we have untill we have LPL/BBs tool for front tensioning. ^^
The old ones are supposed to have a butterfly last, requiring front disc tension. The new i pick with 2 pick tips from a random disc but there are probably other ways.

Use a brazeing "rod" that`s made for brazing steel etc. Myself, soldering these tips right is time-consuming and often the tip break of again easily. Enjoyed watching that, thank you. Will it lead to the Holy Grail of the Protecs 1 and 2 do you think ? Will you be changing your name to HP79 ? Going to be an interesting decade.
Protec1 and 2 are something else than this. Way more advanced in every form. I got a pick & gut video on both on my channel if you want to see the inner workings
@@tarehjernetarehjerne4082 Thanks for the reply; I am aware , as I think most pickers are, of the complexity of P1 and 2. Hence my little joke with Ash.
They need to make all the non steel from the Titanium /Aluminium alloy I've been buying old lever padlocks like a battleship for 60 quid and the 6,7 lever Chubbs. Way better quality As I said before the name put me off. My loss and I'm going through everything now! Great vids and a very nice guy with a lot of knowledge
First bit was hard to see from the camera angle but the second bit was brilliant to watch and great explanation as always. Have a wonderful New Year ;-)
Great use of the cutaway to show how the disks work - very informative- thanks
Thanks 🙏
First time I’ve ever seen the inner workings of a disc detainer padlock!
Thanks and Happy New Year to You & Yours!

Very generous of you :#)
True
Picking the ABUS PLUS disc detainer core with a home made tool is a fun but still not easy challenge! Happy new year! 😃🥳🔐
In the dark ages before RUclips and cheap chinesium web stores, we here in Scandinavia thought quality DD locks like the Abloy could not be picked.
You sure? There was a finland guy in the 1800s that picked classics.

I've always had a poor understanding of how disc detainer cores work. This cutaway and explanation helped me immensely. Thanks!
Thanks 🙏
I have one here sitting on my desk. I fiddle with it every now and then. Great lock.
Great picking.

The sparrows dd tool cannot pick the new abus plus.
They can be good fun :-)
@@LockNoob Will the new sparrows tool work on this lock, or does it require rear tension?
Keep it up, nice job. A clear resin encasement would help the structure maybe? Bit of a faff on to fit one though.
Nicely Done -- very interesting to see the discs move as you pick them -- Thanks for creativity in presenting this video
Thank you 🙏
Great job on the picking. Never tried a disc detainer lock, looks like a fun different type of picking. Happy New Year!
Thanks and Happy New Year!
Good job, I have done these but I REALLY need Sparrows to get their tools on the market. Mine work good but I need higher quality tools
I can’t wait either! :-)
Best locking core imo
Thanks 🙏
Absolutely fantastic picking with a great explanation and visual aid!

Would it be possible to replace the missing metal with clear epoxy? Or maybe polycarbonate would be better. It would support the bar better.
Great vid .. you make it look so easy :)

I'm between this lock and the Abloy 341 enforcer......any opinions ?
Nice video, great picking, I only have one real DD lock, an Abloy 3075/3076, the other is just a pretender/clear model.

Great video ash my friend happy New Year when it comes mate👊🇬🇧😊👍😎
Happy New Year Leon :-)
Absolutely great video. Thank you my friend ,😎💥💥💥💥💥

Is there no lock you fear??
Depends on how hard it’s been thrown 😆
I've got a friend who picks locks, you might know him.
Doubt it 😆
So are the butterfly discs always a zero cut?
You haven't linked the video of you making the pick :(
It’s in an information card on the video :-)
Where I live, the nefarious, every last one of them, couldn't pick this lock to save their lives. Sold.
Your lock is weird, the old ones required top disc tension, and had a butterfly at the bottom, did the discs get scrambled?
Nope. It’s a factory demo I think 🤔
