My mother bought perfume in Egypt during WW2 made from pure oils with no alcohol, it’s in a blue bottle with a rubber stopper (not silicone) with a real silver cap and label. The perfume is still as good today in 2022 as it was when she bought it. Best thing you only need the smallest drop and it last for days on the skin even after bathing.💯👍💕🇦🇺

Im Shocked there is no mention of the Aztecs or Mayans. Both were extremely clean societies who when they encountered the Spanish would cover them in fregrent flower wreaths like they do in Hawaii and cover the ground with rose pedals like in a wedding all while burning giant plumes of incenses in their presence. The Spanish thought they were being treated as kings. But in reality they just smelled really bad and were extremely offensive to the Natives.😂

Actually, the Egyptians refered to their perfume as “sweat of the sun god” because the way they used it was to wear it on their heads in the form of large cone of scented wax which would obviously melt throughout the day & release the fragrance.
I found this fascinating since I work in a perfume store and have always loved fragrance. I own over 20 designer fragrances since I love smelling good.

They still do, and will make you a hefty chunk of change if you find one. Thing is, if you pull a chunk of ambergris straight from the whale, it smells like rotten death. It only starts smelling amazing once it's been exposed to air for a good long while. (If I had to suffer through reading Moby Dick, I'm damn well going to use some of the trivia)

There are no common cats involved in perfumes, but civet cats, and their secretion must be diluted for use. Napoleon's autopsy showed he had a cancer or perforated ulcer in his stomach. If a perfume can do that, it's a first.
You used to be able to buy ceramic pomanders in 1980's @ least. My family had a tradition of putting spices and flower 🌼🌸 petals in them & then putting pomanders in closet.

Does anyone ever wonder if it ever got too hot in the medieval- victorian-gothic times, that they couldn't wear the attire they always wore? It seems like it never was too hot and colder back then because they are always wearing so many layers..
I've also pondered this concept, but with a focus on the American South before the invention of air conditioning. Not sure where you're from but I've always wondered how people survived the heat and humidity throughout the centuries without AC. If my air conditioning has problems I have to use electric fans because otherwise it will be too hot to sleep. The exception is if it's winter, though our winters are sporadic. It can be 90 degrees in December. Or 90 degrees one day then 50 the next. I've always wondered how the older generations dealt with it.

I'm from Oregon so nowhere near what the other parts of the country have to deal with but these last handful of years have been a lot hotter & drier than it's been most of my life here. This is actually funny because i rub my sweaty balls then apply the perfume my hands and rub my self i have noticed people seem to be attracted to it , when o dont do the sweaty balls rub , just perfume nothing happens weird just saying dont hate me
Its amazing how various ancient societies knowledge of plant based scents impacted knowledge of them centuries later. And yes they had a social purpose in many cases, and some perfumes were luxury items.
