- Today, I put the HYWOOD to the test. This is my favorite club and it would be difficult to part with. Can the 7 wood take its place in the bag? I hope you enjoy the video!

I have had the Cleveland Hywood now for more than a year, and I can honestly say it has given me confidence in long approaches. Your numbers confirm the consistency that I produce with this club. Thank you, MSH, for introducing me to this unique club.
Thank you so much for your support!
I bought a Hywood a month ago due to your extensive reviews, and it has become my favorite club. I've been playing 2 years and hit fairways 250y with my driver -- but not the intended fairway. Enter the Hywood. I reliably hit it 200+y straight ahead off the tee. I leave my driver at home now. Fairway shots I hit it reliably 180-190. Thank you MSH!
Thank you!
Did not expect that "That's what she said" clip. LOL😂
LOL!
My 7 wood is a go to club from anywhere, it has a nice little 4 to 5 yard draw thats money for me. 5 wood 7 wood and 5 hybrid is at the top of my bag with driver of course.
Makes sense to me!
I purchased a Hywood last season because of MSH play with it. It has become a money, go to club for me. I like it a lot.
Thank you!!!!
I have a Callaway Steelhead XR 7-wood and I love it. Easy to hit, I can draw it or cut it at will, and flight it up or down. I like that model because the face is a little taller, and I like how it looks at address. A lot of the newer ones are very low profile with a very shallow head. I can really hit down on the Steelhead and hit that trap draw very easily. Hybrids I tend to overcook the draw, but the 7-wood, having a larger head, is more stable and the left miss is manageable. It's also absolute money from fairway bunkers and rough. A real shot-saver for my game. I just found a new old stock 5-wood to go with it, and I'm dropping my 4-wood. For the moment, anyway. The 7-wood has stayed in the bag longer than any other club. This seems to hold true for amateurs on up to the pros: when we find something that works in that longer range at the top of the bag - we hang onto it!
Yes. Definitely stay with what works! Thank you!
You hit the nail on the head... Confidence! I have confidence in my clubs but sometimes the ball does Not agree.
Thank you!
That Hywood seems to be one of the most important clubs in your bag, you hit it so well. I saw Cleveland is coming out w/ a new version and they will also have a 4+ available now.
I did see that. Awesome clubs! I may try to test it.
@@mistahshorthitter Whenever you do that, please do one comparing the 2 models and how much of a difference there is and if it makes sense for those who have it to upgrade or even new buyers to decide whether to buy the new (but more expensive one) or if they can save a few bucks and go with the older model.
Thanks for these videos. Informative, concise, and geared toward finding what works for you.
I had the chance to try out MIzuno's ST Max Hybrid over the weekend. Far more consistent than I get from my 5wood. Misses did not miss as wildly as they do with my 5wood. I've never tried a 7 wood though.
Thank you so much Chris! Much more to come!
Good morning from Manitoba Canada, great video. I love my 7 wood and hit it about 205 yds. you have beautiful shots with both them clubs.
Thank you so much Claude!
Thanks, KB. Thats a really interesting test and comparison. For me, I have carried a 7-wood since the Callaway Steelhead Plus days, so I am very comfortable with it. I currently have a TM Sim 2 Max and hit it great. It flies nice a high, spins well and I can move it any way I need to. I used to have a Titleist 18* hybrid and it was only so-so for me, the good ones were great but the bad ones were really bad, so I took it out. It was just me and confidence - not the equipment. But that's the nature of golf - we're all a bit nuts and even the slightest thing can put you off doing well with a club.
I agree wholeheartedly. The 7 Wood performed a lot better than the 19* 3 hybrid for me. I could make the 7 Wood work if I had to but the 3 hybrid was just not good for me. Thank you Graham!
Love my 7 wood Great content as always 👌
Thank you George!
I'm on my second hywood. My favorite club ever, I think. I'm like you in that I prefer hybrids over fairway woods. I tend to hook woods which is a miss that I hate.
Thank you so much! I love that club!
The Hy-wood and 22' 4 hybrid in the quiver. 2 clubs for 2 different distances and approach angles. 1 runs up the other lands like butterfly
Love it!
To me having confidence is key. No matter what part of ur game.

If i don't have confidence in a club.
It will not be in the bag.
Great video!
That is exactly what I believe!
I love my Hywood! I bought one after watching your video a few months ago.
That is awesome!
The Srixon is great club but it's a players club and is quite small. There are 7 woods that are larger than the Srixon and the Hywood and will inspire more confidence from Ping, PXG, TM, etc.
Thank you for watching!
Trying out the Hywood this season based on you! Thanks!
Thank you!
I too bought it after watching you hit it a year ago. I have found much better results with the hywood than my 3 and 5 woods. Three longest clubs are now driver, hywood, 6 hybrid.
That's a nice setup! Thank you!
Great video!
Thank you!
Confidence and comfort over the ball are the most important element. Way too many people forget that fact and only look at numbers.
Thank you!
Per ShotScope data, I hit my 7 wood and 18 Hybrid the same distance, 181 yards. However, that's where the similarity ends. Per my data, I hit the green 35 of 145 shots with the 7 Wood, and 0 of 14 tries with the hybrid. I think it's obvious why the 7 wood replaced the hybrid. (Note, it's not a Hywood, it's a Titleist 913 HD).
I have a video where the 7 wood beat the 3 hybrid pretty comfortably. Thank you!
I just got a used HyWood and have had decent enough results in limited hits on the soggy fairways of my course (that I'm probably not supposed to be one) in upper 40s temps and too much clothing. One really cool aspect in limited tries around a couple of greens (that I'm not supposed to be on, but I tiptoed😁) is that the thing looks like it may be a great chipper. I even popped it over a trap a couple of times and got pretty close. It seems better than the 5 hybrid I used a lot last year.
Very nice!
I am 100% the opposite and hate hybrids and love high lofted fairway woods. I’m now rocking a 7W, 9W and the granddaddy of them all 11W
Have to do what works. Everyone is different! Thank you for watching!
I just can’t get used to hybrids. I like the larger appearance of the fairway woods. Gives me a lot more confidence over it. So I play a 7, 9, and 11 wood. People say they’re harder to hit out of the rough. If I’m in the rough, I’m probably not going for it, anyway, so I’ll use an iron.
Exactly! Everyone is different. You found what works for you.
Truth! I do wish I had a club I love as much as much as you love the Hy-wood, though!@@mistahshorthitter
I appreciate you supporting the channel. Thank you so much!@@johnr5893
Grabbed one last year after watching one of your videos. Absolutely fantastic club for me
Very nice!!
I played a Maltby HyWay U21 most of last year. It’s similar to the HyWood. It had pluses and minuses. Biggest minus was a tendency to leave shots out to the right. It’s been replaced with a Paradigm Heavenwood. I hit it a lot straighter. The HyWay was good at digging the ball out of the rough. We’ll see about the Heavenwood.
Thank you for watching!
I have always carried a 7 wood, it really is my go to club. I can pretty much hit it on any lie especially if I choke down in the rough and hit down a little more on the ball. I have tried hybrids but I struggle with consistency. Although the hywood does seem to be a lot closer to a 7 wood so maybe I will see if I can find one to give it a try. Thank you for the comparison.
Thank you Dougie!
You look to hit the 7 wood mostly straight! Great review!
In the trees left!
Thanks!
Thank you for the support Jack!
I love my 5 wood. I rarely use my 5 hybrid because of the off set. I just can’t get used to looking down at that at address. Messes with my overall alignment.
It's great to have a club you can count on!
I love my Srixon ZX 4 Hybrid from anywhere: tee box, fairway, or rough.
Very nice! I play those also.
Do u find that the hy-wood has much offset or does it look more like a fairway wood at address? i.e. slightly onset. Great video btw 👍
Thank you! It has a good amount of offset. More than a fairway wood.
I bought a hy-wood this past weekend and can't wait to try it outside against my 7 wood and 5 wood. I have hit it in a simulator but the true test is off the fairway. I want to use it as my fairway club.
Great club Mike!
You hit them both well, so its play the one that you have most confidence in..
I like that!
I messed up when I bought my Hy-Wood I got a senior shaft and found it to hard to hit should have got a regular shaft but I was changing all my clubs to senior shaft at the time and that was a big mistake and I ended up selling them all and going back to regular shaft , I still think about getting another Hy-Wood in regular but money is tight and trying to drop on one at a decent price is hard but I will still keep looking
Thank you so much Phil!
I want to try a hywood this year. But I own 7 and 5 woods so probably will use what I own.
Yes, just depends on what you like. I've never liked fairway woods.
Oh and by the way your swing is looking SWEET! 🐊
Thank you so much Gator!
Thanks
Thank you!
What are your thoughts on single length hybrids? I was thinking of trying it with a 5hybrid but wanted to other data points regarding consistency vs reg length.
I really don't know. I emailed a company hoping they would send me some to review but they never responded.
mmm by your numbers i guess a person doesn't need both in the bag the 7 wood and the 3+ Hywood were flying the same distances i am getting rid of my 3 and 5 wood and was thinking of getting the hywood and a 7 wood and now not sure what to do lol i have a 3,4,5 hybrids also your thoughts ? cheers from Vulcan Canada
I like the Hywood more. I go Hywood, 4 hybrid, 5, 6
@@mistahshorthitter mmmmm good to know i may just go with the Hywood 17 degree then ( 3+ ) then my 3 , 4 , 5 Stealth HD Hybrids my 3 hybrid is 20 degrees 4 is 23 degrees and my 5 hybrid is 27 degrees this all should work out just right i think thx again cheers from Canada
You should email the guys at Eleven golf and get them to send you a few hybrid irons to try... I bet you'd be money with them, you hit hybrids so well.
I never heard of them. I'll look them up!
I noticed you don't use a 3 hybrid. What is the difference between the hywood and the 3 hybrid?
I have a video with the 3 hybrid vs 7 wood The Hywood loft is similar to the 3 hybrid but the weight being a little further back and lower due to the larger head size I believe helps to launch it higher. I have a lot of trouble with the 3 hybrid. I can't really get the height I want with it. I'd choose the 7 wood over the 3 hybrid.
I am the opposite. I like fairway woods better than hybrids. I go 4W, 7W, 9W and then to my Srixon 6 iron.
Thank you Bruce! That's great!
Thanks. "Hit'em straight "
Thank you!
Would you mind telling me what kind of launch monitor you have in your inside setup?
Skytrak
@@mistahshorthitter thank you!
Just ordered a Hy wood, just a quick question. Does it play like a hybrid but gives you the distance of a wood?
Yes, exactly! I hit it about as far as a 5 wood.
Cool! Like the sounds of that, between 170-200 is what I’m looking for. Appreciate the info!
@@mistahshorthitter just got my hywood and it feels really good, like how balanced the club feels, but might upgrade the grip. Really nice looking club and like you said set up feels great, easy even with miss hits(practice shots in backyard).Look forward to playing this Saturday!
@@Weare30186 That's awesome! Thank you for all the support and hit it straight!
Now I know what a Hywood is!
Thank you!
MSHywood master!
Thank you Steve!
I'm a Callaway Heavenwood player Mistah and i have 2! The Rouge and the Maverick both at 20*!
🐊🏌⛳️🦅🇺🇸❤️
Very nice!
Probably my 3 hybrid or 4 wood.
Thank you for watching!
I love my 7 wood! I can hit it great almost every time. But my 5 is a crapshoot and I can't hit the 3 to save my life. What's up with that???
That's not abnormal at all. I could get away with hitting 7 wood but the 5 wood is tougher and the 3 wood is hit or miss. That's why I use the 7 wood, don't carry and 5 wood, and rarely use the 3 wood.
I still regret selling my 4wood that had an automatic draw. I bought a 3wood, which I hit straight. but WHY did I sell that 4wood? UGH!
I guess I didn't think I could afford "extra" clubs. Now, I can't afford greens fees, so it doesn't matter.
Thank you for watching!
I replaced my 7 wood with a Heavenwood and have had no regrets.
Very nice!
Heavenwood or hywood? The former (Callaway) is usually 20° but with a longer shaft length than 7 wood.
@zazhou You are correct, and for me it was the Callaway Heavenwood. My first one was a Steelhead XR.
Did you buy the new 17…or did you keep your 18?
It's the old one. Thank you!
Same here…and love it. Just wonder why they tweaked it?
@@daveparsons7756 To be honest I haven't really looked at the new model but there is a chance I may get to review it
MSH, The shaft is too weak for you in the 7 wood. Not a fair test.
Where did you get that information? I could have got my research wrong.
They are both 5.5 reg flex shafts. The riptide in the Srixon 7w likely plays a hair firmer being 55g than the cypher 49g shaft on the hywood. But both probably play pretty similarly having tested both shafts plenty of times.
@@erock1070 Thank you. I couldn't tell the difference between the two honestly. They are pretty close. I think I read the riptide was 53 grams. Either way very very close.
MSH, u getin tha 🆕 ☝️?
I'm not sure. I may try it out.
Very cool comparison video!! I think you hit them both well!! But you have to go with what you feel more confident with!!🏌⛳👍
Thank you so much for all you support! I really appreciate it!
I enjoy your videos, so nice to have a relatable golfer that knows what he is talking about. Watching a 20 year old who appears to be maybe a college player boom drives 300 yards testing clubs is meaningless. We are the same distance until we get past my 4hybrid. I have a 5 and 7 wood, and both reach your distance about 1/3 of the time. Many days I hit a wall around 170 off the deck. ( I am usually 195-205 driver, with occaisional 220) . On home simulator I show fairways and 3 hybrid ( I don't get that in the air enough to carry it) swing at about 80-82 mph. I am wondering if that 3 hywood would be powered enough with an 80 mph swing, or if the 4 Hywood would do better (assuming the 4 Hywood goes farther than my Ping G410 4 hybrid (about 170)
That's a great question. Let me do a gapping session with the two clubs for subscriber Sunday for you.
@@mistahshorthitter Thanks you, much appreciated. for this club, I dont care about soft landing/rollout, as I am hoping for it to be my max distance off the deck club, and do away with fairways altogether.
@@bmailb That's good info!
