Wow that was impressive and very well thought out. I have a 2003 zuma and it's been a Rockstar for 19 years. I've only ever put tires on and brake pads and the fuel petcock was leaking at one point and I took it apart and cleaned the diaphram and it was good to go. Sadly last week it died on a fishing expedition. The spark plug was dry so I took apart the carb and the intake was plugged with sand and dirt so I cleaned the jets and all other carb parts. Put it back together and it was getting fuel to the cylinder but still wouldn't run. I figured maybe the spark plug got hot when it ran dry so I put in a new plug still wouldn't run. Tested the plug and it had good spark. Now I'm completely dumb founded. Won't even pop with starting fluid into the cylinder. I'm at a loss at this point. Figure it's either the carb is bad or the Reed valves are shot. Or worst case the compression is low. Ordered new reed valve and carb and fuel petcock. If that doesnt work compression is my next step. I have it basically stripped down to the frame and it was a nightmare getting every piece off the bike. Bottom line is that I have a ton of memories on my zuma and it has been such a beast all these years I don't want to give up on it. Fingers crossed I can sort it. They are really solid machines and can take a beating. I only wish I was as mechanical as you are. Excellent work..
Yes you are handsome and mechanically inclined my kickstarted jammed when i tool it to burningman. I love my zuma had it for 6 years never call it a moped there are no pedals on a scooter
I just bought a Zuma 50cc 2004 with 4.000 miles on it. It runs great and it seems to be well maintained. I only use it to run errands and go to the beach. How many miles do you think you can put on these little mopets? Thanks!
You seem like a good mechanic i would be afraid to take everything apart because I would be afraid that I wouldn't get it back together or that when I did it still didn't run.
mine is smoking like crazy like yours. It also spits a black (maybe oil fuel mix) out of the tailpipe. Looks like the problem cleared up by the end. Did you do anything?
Perhaps somebody added pre-mixed gas/oil into the gas tank? Maybe drain some of the gas out to check. Maybe your oil injector pump is faulty and moving too much oil? I’m not sure. Mine smokes a bit when it first starts up but after a couple minutes of warmup, it will not smoke nearly as much.
All the necessary parts were put back except those three keys (he calls them rollers) and it's those three keys which make the electric starter crank the engine. He actually explained that - watch again.
I just bought two Zumas. Thanks for creating this video. Now I have some insight on how the drive components work.
They’re pretty simple. Same principal as a snowmobile clutch or any other CVT transmission. Thanks for watching and have fun with your Zumas

You have a Facebook? I can help you with your zuma. I build these things to race spec scooters..
Any update on the repairs?
@@chrisapolinar1102 where does that go down? I'd dont think we have that here

That a 72 in the back?
Great video I wish I knew how to work on These.

@Mack Premo Thanks!!!
My Zumba has 39k and still going no problems…
@@nikmerlos5174 thanks!
How how much did you pay if I might ask guy around here selling exact same thing
There is one here in town with 90,000 miles on it. 2 stroke

Did you check the compression? If so, how was it?
Awesome bro. Theres one in my area for like $350 running. I am gonna have to go check it out. haha
They’re fun scooters for sure... they’re heavy but they’re rugged little buggers.
@@siTTinLo haha. Well in on a 700lbs fjr1300. I think the 185lbs would be nice. Hahaha
Did you not put oil back in there?
You don’t oil the belt. 🤣
There is no motor oil in a 2 stroke engine. Only 2 stroke oil that mixes in with the gas.

@@siTTinLo it was crud in exhaust
Why don't you replace the rollers
Nope. that has zero to do with whether it starts up - only its acceleration/top end.
For my cvt cover I stripped the bolts and had to get a long flathead and pry off the cover with the screws still in
Brother how did you bypass the electric starter?

Bought mine for $75!
My scooter is the same what need to be fixed if it accelerate but doesnt move
Check to see if it has a broken drive belt
Got yeah beat. Paid 100 for mine and had it running with in two hours.
Nice 😎
